The Singapore Green Plan 2030 is a national sustainability movement which seeks to rally bold and collective action to tackle climate change, and to make Singapore a greener and more liveable home. It builds on Singapore's sustainability efforts over the past decades and sets ambitious and concrete targets for the next 10 years. It is spearheaded by the Ministries of Education, National Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Trade and Industry, and Transport.
The Green Plan comprises 5 pillars that will touch all aspects of our lives:
4:08 - City in Nature
4:51 - Sustainable Living
7:55 - Energy Reset
11:22 - Green Economy
13:06 - Resilient Future
Join us in our movement to transform Singapore into a greener and more sustainable city.
Visit www.greenplan.gov.sg for more information.

They're not doing as great as you might think but I 100% agree. Mexico should use Singapore's centrist government as a model to emulate for success, but with a socialist president like AMLO and the three branches of government under his control, things in Mexico will only get worse without hope for improvement.

However, it could really go a bit further: the density of MRT and bus in city center around Marina Bay / Raffles is now high enough that you could turn it into a pedestrian & cycling/electric pmd area soon. What about a composting system??? A food waste collecting system where the food waste will be composted. I tried it Aerobic Composting at home myself and surprisingly no worm or smell! This can help to reduce food waste that ends up in the landfill and the composted soil can be use for trees across the island or our local farmers. Can target restaurants first, especially buffets! As for general public, many will probably take advantage of it and throw non composted food / materials in it so we need to publicise it a lot then it is up to Singapore to make the effort.

We are rolling out new legislation that will make it mandatory for shopping malls, hotels, large food manufacturing businesses etc to segregate and treat food waste from 2024 onwards. These new requirements will help ensure that food waste from large food waste generators is segregated and diverted for treatment or converted into useful products such as animal feed, compost/fertiliser or biogas for energy generation instead of being incinerated. More information can be found here: www.nea.gov.sg/media/news/news/index/businesses-required-to-segregate-food-waste-for-treatment-under-new-legislation

You have made significant commitments to the UN-SDGs 2030 because it is the right thing to do-for your own nation and for the wider regional and global community. Thank you for being a model for what can be possible if there is the public and political will to tackle complex and urgent problems. Please don't be shy about proclaiming this message to this rest of the world-we all need to be challenged to respond proactively to these pressing issues . I still think product packaging is contributing to waste more than others. A lot of products is usually needed 2 to 3 or 4 layers (such as box, wrapping, product molds inside the box, cable tie, etc) just to reach the item itself. Not to mention the manual, the warranty card, and sometimes air cushions. and most of it can't be reused. Except for air bubbles wrap of course.

Yes, Singapore is ahead of many countries in combating climate change. However, some points of improvement are: 1. Fossil fuel divestment. Not subsidising isn't enough. To make a true impact, divestment is the way, starting from universities, to businesses in Singapore. Without divestment efforts, fossil fuel industries will only grow and continue to use their money in Anti-climate campaigns & efforts. 2. Unknown to many, not even some of the ministers, Singapore is one of the countries that supports a future project of deep-sea mining. Action needs to be taken

For instance, this is what happened when Germany went “Green”: - Household bills doubled - Fossil fuel net use, down 12% - Taxes increased by a total of 243 billion Euros - Greenhouse gas emissions, unchanged - Net job loss: 20,000 per year More thorough research needs to be conducted to mitigate the risks faced by other countries going green.
