The Raffles Hotel in Singapore is an iconic historic luxury hotel at the heart of the city. It is perhaps the most prestigious place to stay at if you are visiting Singapore. In the movie Crazy Rich Asians, the main characters stayed here. Established in 1887, the Raffles Hotel retains its charming colonial architecture from back when Singapore was a British colony. It was first a private residence that became the Emerson Hotel, and then sold to two Armenian brothers who developed it into the luxury hotel it is today. Historically, the hotel only catered to the wealthy, and so, its service standards are top class. Only hotel guests are allowed inside, while non-guests are allowed into the courtyard, the shopping arcade, and the Long Bar where the Singapore Sling was invented. This bar is worth a visit. You can get the original Singapore Sling. There is a bag of complimentary peanuts, and you can throw the peanut shells on the ground. At the Grand Lobby, you can reserve a table to experience High Tea. You can order from the menu of Black Tea, Fruit Tea or Green Tea. Tea time comes with three tiers of cakes and tarts. There's chicken tuna mayo sandwich, crab sandwich, strawberry basil tart, blackberry sesame rolls, smoked salmon, deviled eggs, pistachio tart, coconut tart, chocolate tart, and as if that's not enough, you can help yourself to plain, raisin or bacon scones. It is definitely quite filling by the time you leave. But before you leave, take a lot of snapshots of this wonderful building, and its nooks and crannies.
