Singapore residents could soon pass through immigration checkpoints without the need to present their passports. Instead, clearance will be done via iris and facial biometrics verification. It's part of the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority's digital transformation plans. As more immigration processes get digitalised, officers will be trained to perform more complex roles and non-routine tasks. Over 5,000 officers will be trained by end-2023 in areas like profiling, investigation, and interviewing skills to identify suspicious travellers.
