Hello Richard: The founder of Nantah is. 陈六使。 o r. Tan Lark Sye. The name is pronounced as. Tan Lark Sai in Hokkien. In Mandarin it is Chen liu shi and he donated. money to build Nantah. He supported the Barison Socialis. and he did not support the PAP. He paid a high price for his views and LKY revoked his citizenship. However there is a road named after Tan Lark Sye in the Nantah campus.

I think the correct term used is not gedong (building), but gudang (warehouse), which is pronounced as godown.

Things you might not know. Before the ‘tourist attractions’ pubs & restaurant at Clark Quay & Boat Quay, these places were full of rundown warehouses (godowns). At night these eerie & sad place becomes a cruise area for gays! At the present pub besides the bungee was a shop that sells coffin even before the RIP of the godowns there. Surprise! That’s olden days lah! No big deal.

Hi Richard, love the videos. Would be interesting to see where the land reclamation projects impacts on today's SG. On youtube, there are some fascinating videos from decades past on how locations such as Boat Quay changed over time. You walk past those areas in this vid but even in a post covid world, the bustle and small time industry of these locations is gone.

Greetings n wishesfrom vlog milmilways Singapore.Interesting from you to show the old buildings n structures n describe their history .As a Singaporean n have been to London 2 times,I always enjoy the old charm of that area that have some feelings like in UK.I consider that area as old Singapore.I've notice you pass by the Asia Civilisstion Museum.Since you are interested in history you can join the museum group as a member or join them as museum guide.There are many expatriate members who are museum guides there.Perhaps you can consider my idea.Thanks for sharing.

Good morning Richard Ive enjoyed looking back at the river walk, did you know that the Fullerton hotel (old post office) used to have the Singapore lighthouse on its roof. I stayed there once and was allowed up on to the roof to have a look around

My late father used to work at General Post Office(present Fullerton Hotel) as a postman. His beat was around High Street, Hill Street, Stamford Road etc. How time passes by . . .

Love your videos Richard. Just thought I share Warehouse is directly translated as Gudang (not gedong) in Malay language which may sound much more similar to 'Godown' when pronounced..

Poutines are Canadian. Although having said that, I've eaten 'cheese and chips' in Scotland. Hash browns are American. Agree with you about the mushrooms and tomatoes. Ideally, for a full monty you would need bubble and squeak if you're a southerner, and black pudding (but maybe that's more a Northern/Scottish/Irish thing)

You know what could be super cool, is for you to get a dji gimbal and walk us through places and explain things as you walk in front of them, you can then use the gimbal to rotate camera

Thank for all the great information of history of Singapore. We only study Singapore history in secondary for two years, and it only cover so little about it. Many important history in Singapore is not cover or discard it due to political or racial reason.

Thank you. This is very informative. Finally I got the answer of why they call that warehouse GODOWN. Yes. Gudang is warehouse in Malay. And those British(during the British settlement time) pronounce Gedong with British accent and ended sounds like godown. So till today that place got that name GODOWN.😆😆😆

great video ! nice work ! i have a question regrading SG tourism, would like to know your opinion on it. The SG government has issued S$100 to each adult citizen for the sole purpose of stimulating local tourism, since foreign tourism has temporarily stopped. How successful do think the program was ? and are local Singaporeans interesting in local tourism and actively visit them very often ? Thanks !

Im Singaporean. i have heard that many of my friends intend to use it on stay-cations so i think its working? During the Covid period its noticeable the amount of locals traveling to touristy spots however do take note that Singapore is a small country. we have probably visit every tourist spot at least afew times. hence why its preferred to travel to other countries when possible.
