I've had a few jamming issues but I'm thinking it was due to my bobbin being threaded poorly haha! If anyone else has this issue, it isn't addressed in the video but it's a very easy fix! Turn your needle towards you, lift up the presser foot, pull the fabric out of the way- gently without ripping it- cut the thread with a scissors and take your bobbin out, clear out the jam and re-thread. Definitely a beginner sewer here and I had a tiny bit of experience over 13 years ago in grade school but it was nice to refresh the basics. Thank you for sharing. This machine is much easier to understand than I was expecting! Now just to practice my stitches and get better at getting straight stitches! Also, never actually tried sewing a button hole but I followed along with the video lesson and worked like a charm! Perfect outcome on first try! Thank you!
It's 10pm on a Saturday and I'm watching this, actually finding it cool, as I need to learn how to use the machine we got our daughter, so I can be the bad-@ss dad who teaches his girl how to sew. I think I want to do some sewing myself now. The interesting turns quarantine takes you on! Great vid!
This saved me! I got my sewing machine about a year ago but didn’t know how to set it up and couldn’t find time to get lessons. I finally found this video and now I can make all the things I’ve been waiting to do! Thank you!
This is one of those machines that you pass on from generation to generation without losing their value. And I really appreciate this sweet lady for helping us get started.
Thank you for the great tutorial. I learned a lot about this machine. I just bought it and this really helps me a lot. Im actually a newbie (clueless on how the sewing machine works lol) now I know hahaha! Im excited to make linings for my crocheted projects. Thanks again ❤
Absolutely excellent instructions. The step by step instruction both verbal and visual are so easy to follow and has made me able to understand and use my machine. Great instructor!!
Thanks for such clear instructions! You have such a pleasant voice. The great thing about these videos is that if I need to watch some section again I can just rewind. I’ll most likely watch this video again (probably more than once). 😊
This tutorial is wonderful! It makes it so easy to learn about the machine.. Valerie is a very good instructor. I just got this machine and so far so good. Very happy.
Just noticed the PUSH lever as I was putting in the bobbin. So now I know it is for buttonhole making. I noticed in watching this that it is not necessary to "thread" the bobbin and bring it up the way I had been doing it for over 60 years. I will see if that is true. Thank you for this thorough and pleasant tutorial.
I got a sewing machine like this passed down to me and I learned a tiny bit from RU-vid videos but this one helped the most. I’m a beginner and this is such a HUUUGE HELP. 🙏
i tried to straight stitch but when i took the fabric out from under the needle i couldn’t pull it it was stuck and i had to cut it, there was three strings i had to cut coming from the bobbin if that makes sense
We are so sorry to hear that you're having difficulty with your machine! Please follow this tip if you're having trouble with your fabric feeding: It could be that the presser foot lifter has not been lowered before stepping on the foot controller. Lower the presser foot and resume sewing. We'd also suggest removing your bobbin and bobbin case, and making sure that there's no loose thread caught in your bobbin casing. Replace the bobbin case and bobbin once you're finished inspecting the area. Let us know if this basic troubleshooting worked for you. If not, we'd be happy to look more into your issue. 😊 -AR
comparing for example to the 3232 video, the setting of the bottom thread is different, because the position of the bobbin is different, i get it. although, shouldnt i lead the bottom thread out, before start sewing? thanks

Anyone else have trouble with the auto threader? This was the main reason I bought this machine. It worked the first time I tried it. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you

Where can I find a resource that tells me which stretch stitch to use for which type of stretch fabric? Your stitch selection guide recommended by your manual has a illustration of each stitch, but doesn't categorize or explain which are stretch stiches. I need the information so I know which stitch, stitch length, and width of stitch for my fabric. Oddly I had a Fashion Mate 45 years ago and could do all these things because I had a manual that told me. After years of quilting I'd like to sew knits.
Hi Jan! I'm also going to provide my response from your question on the other video here. The stitches in Black are most commonly used for woven. The stitches in Blue and Red are usable with knit. As far as which stitch, that is going to depend on you, what your project is, what look you want to achieve, etc. I do recommend, getting some test fabric and trying them out. See which fits your wants for whatever project you might be working on at the time. Many dealerships offer owner's classes... you might want to look into that. They will be able to show samples and answer questions in real time. Coming from quilts to working with knits will be an adjustment. Knits are very easy to work with however, coming from the firm structure of quilting, you will want to be patient with yourself. I do recommend a class. While you can learn and do on your own, classes are extremely helpful. I hope this helps! -TB
This was so helpful! Then I got stuck on the top threading lol anyone else having problems with the top thread? It’s so weird because the bottom thread sews perfectly (probably because it was one of the easier steps lol)

Hi! If you are getting looping underneath, it sounds like it is not being pulled into the upper tension. Re-thread and pay attention as you pass thru the tension disc. Also check your tension, make sure it's set in a normal setting and not too low.
Hi! Thanks for your question. For heavier fabrics like denim, pleather and upholstery, we recommend our Heavy Duty machines. You can find them here: www.singer.com/machines/heavy-duty/. Thank you! -TB
Have just brought this model. Not happy. Cannot get the correct tension. Straight stitch is uneven. I have set tension knob on 5, 4 , 3 and even 2 and still the stitches are not right. Zig zag stitch is even worse. I have retreaded both top and bobbin several times so I know this is correct. Suggestions would be welcome.

Hi! The SINGER Fashion Mate 3342 and Fashion Mate 3333 are very similar. The main differences are that the 3342 has more stitch applications, more built-in stitches, a one-step buttonhole and adjustable stitch width. If you go to www.singer.com, you can compare products by selecting the ones you want to compare, then clicking 'Compare'. Thank you! -TB
Got tired of dragging my carpenter pants , I just went and bought me This machine, I have never used a sawing machine, but this video makes it look easy . I hope I can fix my pants . But my question is , if anybody is reading this comment, what kind of needle do I need to use or number.
@@SingerSewingCompany thank you , I’ll look for them in stores . I did sew my pants, first time ever , not perfect but is good enough, since is a work pants 😂
Any flat back domestic sewing machine needle will work! The size will depend on the weight of the fabric you are using. Check out this needle guide for more info: Here is a link to a very helpful needle guide: res.cloudinary.com/singer-sewing/image/upload/v1620941592/Singer-Website-Library/Other/SINGER_Needle_Guide.pdf
Hi Regina! This is not a chargeable machine. Portable just means its easy to travel with/move around. There is a cord that comes with the machine that needs to be plugged into a power outlet. Thank you! -TB
we just bought this machine. after winding the bobbin, and threading the machine, why doesn't this video next show how to draw up the bobbin thread through the base plate? it's shown on page 16 of the paper instructions. so why isn't that step shown here? i'm 'corn-fused'. 🤔

We are so sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your machine. Is the thing you're referring to your bobbin? Your bobbin is the tiny cylinder that your thread is wound around. Once confirmed, I would be happy to troubleshoot with you. 😊 -AR
@@SingerSewingCompany hello, no it's not. It's the tool that helps the thread get to hole of the needle. The needle threader on my machine is not functioning anymore I think because the hook that gets the thread to be able to pass through the needle hole is broken.
The tutorial is great and easy to follow. This machine does not sew layers of fabric well.It has an awful knocking sound.I changed needles and rethreaded,no changr. Then I exchanged machine with another 3342 and same problem.I am really disappointed.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear you're having problems threading your machine. I'd be happy to provide some insight. 😊 Are you struggling with getting the thread through the eye of the needle, or are you having trouble threading the upper thread through your machine? -AR

Good video but keep in mind it was made in 2016. Current purchases DO NOT include quick start brochure or the manual. It is all digital. That may be a difficulty for those who don't have experience with downloads and/or RU-vid.
