A colleague gifted me a 221 previously owned by her late mother-in-law. I live in a tiny NYC apartment and have never made the time to learn how to use it so was thinking about selling it but your video inspired me to love the whole idea of the machine. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I will definitely use your link to buy bobbins. Happy stitching!

Oh wow! I'm tickled pink to hear that my video inspired you to keep the machine. That's awesome! 😊The 221 and 222 are super cute and fun to sew with. Let me know how you get on with it. Thanks for watching! 🙂

After being happy with one machine for twenty years of I’m suddenly trying not to become a collector! I found you because I was shocked to find myself, two machines on, kind of wanting a featherweight. I think you’ve put me off! Last year I bought a wonderful shabby but intact 1912 28k for £80 that I’m hoping (when I get round to renovating her) will be my workhorse (I’m a corset maker) next to my trusty 20 year old janome.

Please don't let me put you off having a Featherweight. They are cute machines and if they weren't priced so high, I'd probably have one. 🙂 As a corset maker, you might find the Singer 301 more of an ideal fit. It's a full size machine with the same portability as the Featherweight but it's a sturdier machine. I'll be doing a video at some point on the 301 and covering it in more detail than I did in the Featherweight video. I hope you get your 28K working soon. The stitch quality is amazing. Thanks for watching!🙂

Thanks for an interesting video. I bought a Featherweight in 1972 for $50. It’s in great shape and super cute.

I got a 221K featherweight for $75. Yes was indeed to be clean and still finding my way with the stitches. Upper thread keep breaking. I figured for that price I can learn to troubleshoot it.

That's awesome! What a find! Is the needle in the right way?

@@SimplyStitchy yes it's the right way but ; I think should put a brand new needle and probably refill the bobbin with new threads. Still learning and understanding this little sewing machine.

For some reason, the Featherweight was the first vintage Singer I could easily identify by sight. The lines of its design seem very distinct to me. I found one in excellent condition in a thrift store for $75 a few years back, but it was so small I had no need for it. The 15's are also easy to spot due to the position of the tensioner. The rest all blend together for me and I have to look the model number up on ISMACS. Would love to know what others think of the 15s compared to a 66 or 99.

I for one, love my Singer 15. But have to be honest, the 99 is a lot lighter to carry! I'm not sure others will see this question here, so I'll pop it on my community tab for you.

@@SimplyStitchy Thank you! I have no need for a portable vintage. I was just wondering if there's any significant difference in the stitch quality or the ability for the machines to penetrate. I get asked questions like this from time to time, so it would be nice to know. Thank you!

$1,000!!! Holy cow! That’s crazy. So you could say it’s retained it’s value. My mother has the 222K. I grew up learning to sew on it. She was given it when we moved to America from England. She took a seamstress class in college in England. I am quite sure her machine is made in England. My 347 zig zag is made in England, well, Great Britain. Now I’ll have to go visit her to check out her machine some more. It definitely has that removable extension. She has always had me sort out her sewing machine issues. I’ve learned so much more since I got my White VS machine a month ago. Way before I got the White, she had me finish up a tea cozy for her- so kind of thick sewing. I really don’t see all the fuss. My other machines so sew much better that the featherweight. It’s not bad it’s just not as smooth, confident and fast. Featherweights are beautiful to look at though. I don’t know who my mum is giving the machine to when she’s finished with it. I have two sisters and three brothers but they don’t sew. It’s in perfect condition with all the bits and box. I would think an easy way to identify one is with a magnet.

I think your mum and your siblings know who will be getting the Featherweight. ;) But just to be sure, why don't you ask her? Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

Hi, I was thinking about the feather weight machine, but unfortunately there are lots of issues with the bobbin jamming very easily. It's really cute along with the price!!! I just bought a beautiful Singer 15k80 in mint working condition for 120euros. It's from the 1930's and is electric. I have all the accessories and the manual plus the bobbin is a standard size (oufff all my bobbins will fit ). Thanks for the video, I'm sure I won't be getting a feather weight.

15K80s are excellent machines! I must admit, featherweights aren't top of my must-have list either. They are cute though... Thanks for watching 😀

Great info, I've always wondered what was so great about a feather weight. My 128 and 99K are heavy but they are true work horses. The weight makes them more stable than lighter machines. What are your thoughts on the 416 you have? I have the same one, haven't sewn with yet, had to replace a gear and still need to make some adjustments. I'm hoping it's a good machine🙏

I haven't had any major problems with my 476. The gears had already been replaced before I got it. It's a good machine and I've used it a lot. I think the motor on it is slightly underpowered for really heavy fabric, like upholstery or denim, but then it's a zigzag machine. It was designed to sew the new knit fabrics that came in during the 60s/70s. And it does sew knits really well! That's an important thing to consider for any sewing machine - make sure it matches the task you want to sew. I'm happy with my 476. She's sews anything I ask her to - but I treat her like the old lady she is - I don't push the motor too much and always hand crank through really bulky seams. I hope you get yours up and running soon, they are great to sew with. Thanks for watching! 😀

@@SimplyStitchy I'm happy to here that! I left the repairs on this one for last because it was the top vertical shaft gear that needed replacing and not much room to work but I got it done thanks to @AndyTube😁 Now I'm excited about getting it back together and see how it sews😀 I bought it because of the zigzag function which the vintage machines don't have.
