This is a re-upload because something weird happened the first time with the audio and video being out of sync. Hopefully it is correct now but if not, let me know in the comments
There is another reason why Kurt and Rachel sang that song. It's all about the musical "Wicked." The song "Changed for the Better" is about two people once enemies are now friends. Are Kurt and Rachel best friends now no, but they are not the same as they were season 1. Also, this song is a duet unlike "Defying Gravity" which they sang for the Diva Off in first season.
For glee Rachel and Kurt got better friendship development than most. Key moments in wheels the diva off, Hairography and her forgiveness to his trick, and even Funk where Kurt was ready to stick up for Rachel. The biggest break through was in Dues when she was the only one to understand his loneliness and they sang together, in Furt she gets the guys to stick up for Kurt, Kurt ask Rachel for audition advice and at Sectional they have a nice conversation about missing each other, Superbowl episode Rachel and MERCEDES have coffee with Blaine and Kurt, Rachel, MERCEDES and Kurt have a sleep over. Kurt helps talk Rachel out of a nose job to name a few friendship moments.
Re: How are they allowed to compete with only the two of them up there? In one of the S1 episodes where Sue was taking over half the Glee club as co-captain (the episode about how the minority students always take a back seat and in which Sue found out Quinn was pregnant) she read a part from the show choir rule book that said every glee club had to have at least twelve members, however not every member has to perform every song. Idk if that helps you remember but it was during a fight with Will; he said she couldn't just take half the club because then they couldn't prepare for the competition group numbers.
There’s definitely some suspension of disbelieve but I went on trips while in high school where they would just drop us off somewhere with out chaperones and say we’ll meet you back here in three hours to catch the bus. The bus would drive away and we’d just wander the city get lunch etc. I’m trying to remember how many chaperones were on my senior year chorus trip and I think it was only two. They made sure we had contact info for them and told us to stay with at least one other member of the group but other than that there wasn’t a lot of supervision.
As Long As You're There shares a few similarities with I Have Nothing, which I noticed as the years went by and I kept coming back to it: both start with long piano/keyboard intros, the metric for the first bar is exactly the same, they start in the same key and both of them have key changes for their choruses, and the lyrics are also similar in theme. I just love how it's written as this huge, dramatic song, and so it could only take cues from another huge, dramatic song as well
My High school choir every four years would take an overseas trip to tour. During my years we went to Japan, HK, Korea, and while we had a few chaperones. We were absolutely allowed to go out on our own (well it was required that we buddy up with at least one other student). Of course this was in the 80's. The big no no was drinking, and we were actually told not to have relationships with people we met (hint if you're going to bump uglies it better be a classmate....). Perhaps different times...
i went on a choir trip to NY in highschool and the teacher "chapperones" let us go off for 8 hours before meeting back. do not have to suspend your disbelief.
He doesn't seem to get how many of Rachel and/or Finn's competition songs are story driven, either. Mercedes got the 2nd most songs for a female character, 3rd overall, the actress got her spotlight.
@@andym2801 Just because many of rachel & finn competition songs are "story-driven" doesn't negate the point that they shouldn't have the majority if not all the performs. on top of that, many of mercedas solos are centered around her having to prove to Mr. Shue & others that she deserves the top spot to not get it anyways because their favoritism to rachel. it makes no sense that rachels has 40+ solos when characters like mercedes, kurt, satanna, etc exist. I don't even think mercedes ever had a nationals competition song until the troubletones
@@wtfheim This wasn't American Idol where everyone gets a song each week. Favoritism, you mean how Kurt got to be written as the moral center of the show or how he had a great coming out story and got to have a parent/child relationship that no other character got? You mean how Santana who was elevated from a background character leap frogging over Quinn, Tina and Mercedes to become the 2nd female lead? No one ever gets mad at her taking Mercedes thunder in the show or in Trouble Tones. Where is the hate for Blaine for being a guest star to having the 2nd most songs in the show? Mercedes got plenty of spotlight moments, just because they weren't in competition doesn't mean she didn't get her chance to shine. But that was Mercedes story she had to go through that she had t be pushed beyond her natural talent, to be more focus more, more prepared, more ambitious as she said Rachel kept her on her toes, so she was all the stronger for it. Funny how Mercedes fans think if she got more they would have written good stories for her when they didn't even do that for their so-called favorite Rachel. Mercedes got all her dreams and ended up mostly unscathed by the writing.
