I've owned a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 for over 5 years now. I do mostly craft, quilt, and garment sewing and the machine has always given me perfect results. I got the extended accessories package and remain convinced that I selected the right machine. I take good care of my machine and don't abuse it. I would recommend this machine to anyone who's sewing needs are similar to my own.

Great video. Thanks! I have this machine and you made me like it even more! A tip about the stitches getting closer together when you sew more and more layers together or thick ones like leather: you need to increase your stitch length because the stitch is going through more fabric (or animal skin). Even if you use a walking foot you would need to do this.

I have to send you a HUGE thank you for this video. I had to take my machine apart to find the little blue brush that had fallen inside the bobbin area. Apparently the automatic thread cutter won’t work without it. Followed your steps & got it apart, found the blue bit and, most importantly, got it put back together. So a massive thank you to you from this grateful subscriber. Love from Canada 🇨🇦

When you need to change the knife in the cutter, you have to practically dismantle the whole machine. See Roxanne's video on how to do it. The knife is just a small piece of the blades used in box cutters. The threaders dont last long either but just pull off and push on. Good luck.

Thanks for showing what’s going on inside my machine! I’d be afraid of wrecking it if I tried to open it up myself! I love this machine. The one thing I don’t like about modern machines though, is that the feed dogs are so wide to accommodate the various stitches, that it’s more difficult to maneuver around tight curves than with a vintage straight stitch machine that has the narrow feed dogs and presser foot. So, I need both! Thanks again for this wonderfully informative video! You rock!

Learned to sew on an old Singer Athena and a Kenmore 12271. My newest one is a Brother Innovis 1300. Seeing something like this is interesting because for years I would not touch one of the newer Singer machines because of all the issues my grandmother and other relatives had with theirs through the 80s. Always running into issues with timing and tension. Seems the build quality just wasn't the same -- and that included my grandmother's Athena. So the sewing machine dealers constantly make a big deal about the difference in build quality between the box store machines and the ones they offer. It'd be interesting to see a comparison/contrast between a big box/retail machine and a similar dealer machine? Could even be an older model, because we all know that the dealer machines tend to be a bit pricey. =D

I have singer quantum 9960 from past 6 yrs and has been running smoothly until one day it did not stop even after I lifted my foot from the pedal , it kept on , in hurry I tried n stopped it forcefully by holding the side wheel tightly instead I should have turned off the power switch. It’s not working from that day on. It’s really sad .do not know what to do n what has gone wrong with it. Can you please discuss such malfunctions in your future videos. It might be of help to many like me. Thanks a lot for this amazing effort🙏

Fantastic review, as always from the sewing machine repair guy. The complicated bits are beautifully explained, I never thought I could possibly understand how this works, especially the electronicy stuff, but this has given me a good understanding. Lay people, like me, really shouldn't be poking around inside here, the warnings given should be heeded! HOWEVER for users like myself it is incredibly useful to know what bits need oiling and where to look to decide when the machine needs to see a professional repair person. The more you know about your machine the better I reckon!. Biggest lessons I learnt was: DON'T USE A SCREWDRIVER to prize open plastic/clippy bits #2 ground body to case to prevent electro static damage to electronicy stuff #3 other than oiling, cleaning or very basic repairs I should take my machine to a professional

Just got my XR3340 from brother, it is refurbished and I love it. I won't be doing major heavy duty on it, that is for my 2 kenmores that weigh 30-40lbs and are 52-56 years old and are work horses. so I will be doing work with them along with my brother. just because electronics can do heavy duty does not mean they should depending on fabric. same with the vintage. all are home dec. and I love them all. it's all about knowing what your machines can and can't do with out over reaching their limits. This is an awesome video btw.

I got this machine because my Pfaff was being tuned up - since the Pfaff is older I thought it would be nice to have a newer-ish machine. But it sounds like the needle is hammering through the fabric and I had problems with the needle cutter after less than 3 mo. of owning it. It still makes a good straight stitch, but I'm sticking with my older Pfaff. I gave the Singer to my daughter and recently used it; it was fine for some cotton quick quilting craft projects.

I think if the thread had been the right size and beeswaxed, it would have did a better job.. leatherwork threads need wax to slide through stitch holes. It also helps the needle out greatly. I have a Quantum Stylist 9960. It a very nice machine. It handles moderate leather not heavy leather. Was not made for that heavy of material. You want a real leatherwork sewing machine buy one that's really designed for it. Like my Singer 29-4 1913 model. It a patch machine that was made for leather repair work of many harnesses. I will do a great job. Even a sailrite sewing machine would work as a leatherwork machine. Make bags or backpacks, tent's,, heavy wools.

When sewing the leather or a heavy fabric, a longer stitch length should be used. Also, one would choose an appropriate needle and thread for the task at hand! Still amazing, that the layers of leather went through; probably a situation that most of us would never need anyway! Someone probably already mentioned this...

I have the patchwork which seems like it's almost the same machine, it doesn't have all of the designs or the thread cutter but everything else seems to be the exact same. I also have the Heavy Duty for bigger, heavier things like parka's. I also have a Viking Prisma that's probably over 30 years old and it still works very good, not as good for some of the newer fabrics but it works like new and has been around the world twice.

great videos My wife has a Husqvarna sapphire 930 that worked great new of course, but 4 years later the machine developed serious problem. After she stopped sewing to cut material the machine would tie knot then cut then tie knot then cut repeatedly till machine is turned off. This happened when the machine was just sitting on it's own plugged into power. After turning machine off and then on to start sewing it would stop randomly and tie knot and stop... First time they replaced computer as it was under warranty. Now almost 4 years later again she has exactly the same problem. Seems like the part lasts only 4 to 5 years. Of course the Husqvarna dealers are now fewer and when you ship, do a diagnostic and repair it can greatly exceed the value of the machine and if it works same as befor will only last 4 years. Also some electronic parts are getting difficult to purchase. Have you run into this problem and do you have a cure??? thanks.

Thanks for making this! I’m having some tension problems with this machine right now: it’s two years old and hasn’t been serviced yet (it hasn’t been used a lot: I’d say maybe a cumulative ~80 hours max?). I don’t know if it’s user error or something real fussy about my machine, but it keeps making thread sausages when I start to sew and it’s driving me nuts. I can’t get work done. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. 😭 When I *can* get it to work, it works beautifully… I’m pretty sure that I’m the problem.

I had this machine for 3 years and at first I loved it but then it started stalling and not feeding the fabric properly. Also the needle threader hook is very flimsy and I had to replace the threader 4 times, at $12 a pop. Repair places told me that this machine and many Singer models these days are not durable. I then bought a Brother and it's a champ, I got a dealer model and I love it, no problems at all after three years. I think that Brother , Babylock, Juki and Janome are supposed to be more durable machines than modern Singers. What is your experience as a repairer with the different brands? Thanks for your input.

Yes, Zainab, this is interesting but does say how ti fix anything. "Ther's a bushing there you can oil." Doesnt show close up or what to oil it with (i have reg machine oil & the silicon (?) stuff that is the "permanent" oil. Besides, "permanent" that isnt and no mention in the manual. Ive been an avid sewer for 50 yrs and only recently found out about the non-permanent grease, accidentally, when a singer rep i called mentioned it. And "there's a bushing here, but you cant see it" (but it needs oiling) doesnt help much, does it. It would also be useful to be told about removing the plastic over the needle area. I spent some time trying to figure out where the other screw must be bc it was stuck pretty good. No screw just pry, pull and lift. Realign and push to return it. Guess i waa really looking for how to do routine maintenance. Ill keep looking. Good luck to you. lf you have trouble taking it apart or putting it together, see Roxann's vid on changing the cutter blade.

Amanda, it is small and it is NOT going to last like our vintage ones.

You should tear down the "Singer" 9960 and the W6 n5000 - 8000 together ... Wenn ich die 9960 mit der W6 n5000 etc vergleiche sind sie tatsächlich baugleich... greetings to Producer Happy.Japan. The discussions about which one is better are senceless... whats about tuning... could you chance the motor and motorboard with a heavy duty motor from the heavy duty model`s?

Very helpful video. Thanks a lot for doing it! By the way, have you assessed Singer C430 as well? If so is it comparable to Singer Quantum in terms of reliability? Thanks very much for your reply.

My problem is that the bobbin case turned and is now stuck so I can't take it out. I can't move the turn wheel or the bobbin case. Nothing turns.

13:00 That motherboard is still insanely big for what it's actually doing in this machine. A Raspberry Pi Zero W would be about one tenth of that and it would have much better processor and built-in WiFi so either this board is doing insanely lot processing, or it's really low tech - and to be honest, it's really low tech.

Good afternoon, I have a Quantum Stylist 9960 family machine but yesterday I was doing free embroidery with a round frame, and the presser foot arm got stuck on the edge of the frame, and then, my machine no longer wants to sew, and the needle does not move from side to side, nor does it center, it goes up and down when I move the rotary knob, but if I start sewing, a beep sounds and it does not sew, it helps, I think it may be something in the system configuration, no I know if it is possible to reset the system, or something, I know that when you turn it on if you press the EDIT button and any function button F1 to F5, it opens in a different configuration menu, I need urgent help plis!!!!!

Thank you for demonstrating the mechanism of the Quantum 9960. I am having trouble getting the thread through section 5. I saw that it has a small slit in the plastic. Is this normal or is it supposed to be smooth?

Our machine has a problem with the foot pedal. We have tried our daughters foot pedal because she has the same machine and our pedal works fine in her machine. Leads me to believe the problem is the female receptacle that the pedal plugs into. How hard is it to replace that receptacle? Thanks. Cleo Tucker

Thanks for the video... am I right... the only thing I have to do to create a heavy duty stylist 9960 hybrid is to change the motor? Can the 9960 motorboard handle a heavy duty motor? And if not, can a stylist 9960 board handle a a heavy duty board?

Thanks for the service tear down. Mine won't stitch forward but it will stitch reverse if I engage the reverse button. It looks like the feed dogs aren't working for forward stitching. Any advise will be appreciated.

When you sewed the leather, how thic was it? It looked like a 4mm sheet you doubled then tripled. I'm looking for a machine that can do 2mm sheets of leather to denim.

Is there a way to get in to clean out the thread guides? Mine used to be very easy to thread but now it's hard to glide the thread through the steps. I use 100% cotton thread by Gütterman for my quilting projects. Thank you in advance.

B, take off the cover over the guides ( theres one screw, then pry & lift to get it off; realign the piece at the top middle, and push to replace it after you clean out the threads. Rem to replace the screw.

@@grandmalovesmebest thank you. I actually took it in for service and maintenance. I bought a new Babylock and wanted to be sure whomever bought the Singer would have a nicely maintained and ready to go machine. I did however learn to snip my thread at the spool and pull the cut thread downward. I was taking the spool off and just pulling it upward to change thread. Apparently that caused a lot of lint build up in the housing where the springs are located for threading. Lesson learned. Thank you very much for your reply I do appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

Does Amazon deliver there? I bought mine from amazon. Idk about shipping cost but there is a singer dealer in Corpus Christi, TX who can send you one. Happy Sewing. You will LOVE this machine.
