And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here in this acoustic session (here only the Dutch singer, Floor Jansen, together with the multi-instrumentalist Troy Donokley from UK) a song from their latest studio album "Human :||: Nature" released in April 2020. This was their only live performance in 2020, due to the pandemic situation. Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. About the instrumental and vocal added parts (you'll get there, listening their "regular" songs with the full band, most of them performed live in concerts) - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw you enjoyed this delicate performance by our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. I was puzzled at first, knowing your channel reacted to another Nightwish song about 3 months ago, but then it was another reactor. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. I read somewhere that parts of "How's the Heart" were written by Tuomas as a tribute to Floor, her husband Hannes (drummer for Sabaton), and daughter Freya.

Everything Floor does, she means to do just that. Floor is a once-in-a-generation singer who can do ANYTHING. I hope you'll continue with Nightwish and see what she and the full band can do. Each of them are as accomplished as she.

Note: Troy Donockley is NOT the guitarist for Nightwish. He is their multi-instrumentalist. He's usually on stage playing tin whistle, low whistle, uillean pipes, bouzouki, and pretty much everything else that isn't being played by someone else...and singing too.

As many will till you this singer, Floor Jansen, is something really special. She is nothing short of a siren who sucks the listener in with her stellar vocals. She has a talent that has been honed to perfection that lets her flawlessly change vocal styles whenever ans however she wants. Ahe can basically sing anything. If you want to see her really shine and also get to hear theactual band and get a taste of symphonic metal you should react to Ghost Love Score from Wacken Open Air 2013. Imagine being SO good at singing or playing an intrument, that you are almost never restricted by your abilities but only by your imagination. That is Floor Jansen for you. She knows exacty what she is doing, and why, at any given time. Also: I agree that she is singing through a smile, but I actually think that it matches the lyrics and intention of the song perfectly. Yes - there is sadness involved but also hopefullness and optimism. She is sitting by that warm fire, empathicly inviting you to join her and talk about the state of the Heart. I can’t think of a better vocalist on earth right now. Not only can she do just about anything vocally that you can possibly want but every song I listen to that she sings on she uses her voice with artistry, not doing more or less than will service the song and the music. It really is like an instrument to her, she can play whatever she wants to with it and the choices she makes with it elevate the song to another plane, it’s such a joy to listen to her.

You haven't heard Nightwish, you heard the 2 newest band members: Floor Jansen (Netherlands - lead vocals) and Troy Donockley (Wales - multi-instrumentalist and backing vocals). They have been with the band "only" since 2013. :) Yes, please do listen to the full version of this song, and then to the whole Nightwish catalog. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Floor is a vocal powerhouse. THE vocal powerhouse. And Troy is a magician with his instruments. Notice how he makes the guitar take a percussion role in parts of this song.

Funny enough, though Nightwish is a Finnish band, neither one of these two are Finns. The rest of the band members are. Troy Donockley is from Cumbria, Floor Jansen is Dutch. Floor and Troy, the multi-instrumentalist, became official members of Nightwish in 2013. The band was founded in 1996 in Kitee Finland. The band founder, leader and main songwriter, composition, lyrics, arrangement, is Tuomas Holopainen a.k.a. Metal Mozart. He writes vast majority of Nightwish songs, about 90-95%. However Floor sings it is intentional. She is the 3rd and current Nightwish female lead vocalist. Please do listen to the lyrics video of this song with the whole band. I wouldn't mind if you reacted to it too making comparison between the versions. I prefer the band version, I might be in the minority. A double reaction, both versions, would have been nice. There is no live version with the whole band due to Covid-19. I really wish you would react to the Nightwish rendition to "The Phantom of the Opera" Helsinki 2005, End of an Era concert, with the Nightwish original female lead vocalist Tarja Turunen and Marko Hietala, the bassist, in the role of The Phantom. Actually these two are from Holland(singer) and England (guitarist), she can sing anything from heavy rock to opera, and he also plays pipes, Irish bagpipes, bouzouki etc etc Worth listening to original version on the album Human II Nature which is an amazing one.

Floor Jansen is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of. 😉😊

Thank you for an insightfull comment. As a non-singer I only know Floor's singing is unusually impactful, at least for me. She really delivers emotions well. It was nice to near some notes on why and how she does it.

Interesting entrance to Nightwish as it is not typical of their usual style as it is an unplugged version. What it does emphasise is the musical storytelling that characterises their music, the brilliance of Floor as a singer and emotional connection that the music engenders. Hope you will check out some of their unfiltered tracks. Troy( the guitarist) is a hugely talented multi instrumentalist who specialises in historic instruments. He is not a bad singer himself. They also have a third singer Marco, who is the bassist and in recent albums the three have worked on some great harmony work.

It's about tenderness, giving space to people in situations we can not imagine. It's also about how to deal in this world giving life to a new born human. That's about the words and meaning. About the quality? Nightwish is greatest on combining music styles and real importance of the lyrcs. With best performances life!

! Attention ! You're about to fall down the extent Nightwish rabbit hole. As you already might sense, you don't necessarily need to like Metal music at all, to enjoy Nightwish' symphonic, opera, metal compositions....sometimes even with medieval or folk-like touch. They always invent themself anew, while the composer went through different periods in life. They didn't stop to evolve, so their different albums always brought something new. Expect to watch grandmaster musicians when you see them playing live in concert. Unfortunately their planned tour for this album in 2020 needed to be postponed, so their last live records from the "Decades tour (1996-2018)" was more about a compilation of their older songs, adapted with their current singer, Floor Jansen, who joined Nightwish in 2012.

You listen to the musical queen of the Netherlands, and the multi instrument player of Scotland, Floor Jansen and Troy Donockley, both members of the Finis Nightwish, mostly symphonic metal, with Keltic influence, the leader of the band and founder is Tuomas Holopain, the Modern Mozart of this time. Example is their latest dubbel album, Human and Nature. The band is my greatest musical discovery, I know them unfortunately just since last year. But enjoyable a lot to catch up 👌 Greeting from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

Lisa, Floor's smile is mechanical function of her achieving the sound she wants. She smiles a lot anyway because she is a wonderful person. But when it comes to her vocals I've heard her talk about the achieving certain tonal qualities by creating a smile-like facial structure. So, in many cases it's not an emotional expression, but rather a singing technique. Your comment is not the first time I've heard a reactor questioning Floor's "smiling" while singing lyrics not meant to convey happiness.

Hi Lisa, nice reaction. Floor is just a wonderful story-teller and able to convey emotions in so many styles. From hard, heavy metal, opera, folk or straight rock, she is the most versatile female voice that I might have ever heard. Her tone, power and textures are top quality. She is so good, particularly live. Nightwish is, of course, much bigger than just Floor and Troy here but check out anything from their legendary concert at Wacken, Germany in 2013.

Troy the guitarist from the North of England (Workington), is highly sought after, with a lot of folky background. Floor is an absolute gem! :) Yes she is very emotional and draws you into the song. "The second verse for me is very special, where Tuomas wrote" We met where the cliff greets the sea ", reference to my encounter with the love of my life. And he continues: “Now there’s one who came from me”, who is my daughter: “A child of love, another tale”. As soon as he told me that, he brought me to tears and he still does when I talk about it, because it is very touching and heart-melting ” - Floor Jansen (on Metal Talks).

Hey Lisa, I enjoyed your reaction. You've just stumbled on a one off band that boasts (probably) the best singer in the world right now. They have a vast array of emotions and styles and there aren't any poor songs in their entire canon. Enjoy the journey...there's a really strong fan base out there that'll join you on the way.

She is a master of mixing. After the non acoustic you should go for floor’s holy trinity: “ghost love score” (from Wacken 2013), “the poet and the pendulum” and “the greatest show on earth”. Then “your is an empty hope” can give you the full spectrum of her vocal abilities.
