SOS song was original written for Daniel Balavoine also known as “French Chayanne”, French singer and songwriter. He was hugely popular in the French speaking world and inspired many singers in 1980s. He was also a part of the original cast of the rock opera Starmania in 1978, which was written by Michael Berger, his closed friend. That’s was when Sos song was born. Then in 2004 great French singer Gregory Lemarchal performed SOS beautifully. What is incredible, he has cystic fibrosis and performed this song excellent! He was hospitalized many times, because CF. Doctors warned Gregory that singing will deteriorate his sick lungs, but singing was his life. He past away of CF at the age 23, on April 23 2007. Then in 2017 great Dimash, in memory of Gregory Lemarchal performed SOS on The Singer contest in China. Dimash did not speak French at all when this was taped (not sure if he started studying it in the meantime). Years before He listened to Grégory Lemarchal (I guess was his name) singing the tune and decided to sing it as well. So he learned the words phonetically. Sound by sound. So a few slips (like the s in ris or vis) were honest mistake as you say (strange fact tho: he sang the song before and those words were pronounced correctly, no s's, so I presume he was just nervous being his first appearance on that big Chinese TV show called "Singer")
He did sing this same song when he's still doing contest 2015 slavic bazaar. Maybe some of his team in china corrected or change on how to pronounced it. Who knows.

He wants to sing what he sings etc. and not be channeled into a category or genre, which most want him to do. He is very well know in Asia, Eurasia, and Russia, and has won top music awards in China and Russia. He is starting to be more known in Europe and the USA, but is doing it entirely with his "own team," and in his own time frame. He was on tour in Europe and Eurasia when the pandemic started, and has cancelled most of those concerts at this point. He did have his first solo concert in the USA at Barclay's Center in NY, in December 2019. The concert was sold out, and attended by people from 63 different countries. I was at that concert, and it is something else to hear him sing live. Videos don't even come close to what you hear, and feel listening and seeing him live. Continue your journey with Dimash. A man from Kazakhstan singing a French song on a Chinese reality show - yes you are right , his French pronunciation was a little off on this performance. He corrected these errors in his later performances. Once in a blue moon, someone of Dimash's magnitude comes along and blows us all away and all we can do is just sit back and enjoy !! I understand your surprise. I just learned about Dimash a few days ago, and now I feel like I've been living in a cave. I've watched dozens of reaction videos now because I'm hooked. While I'm not a vocalist, one thing I notice about the way he sings is how he embodies the song, especially with his right hand. Watch the way he anticipates with his hand where the song is going next. It's almost like he rehearses it physically just before he sings it. Also (since you speak French) notice how his soprano voice accompanies certain passages in the libretto where the sentiment soars. It is not empty pyrotechnics. There is a semantic purpose to everything he does - sound and sense working together.
Hello from an Australian dear. I have been following Dimash's career since 2017 and last December he had a sold out concert in New York. He plays 7 instruments and has learned the fine art of singing since he was 5 years old. To me Dimash is the best singer in the world. Yes please do more Dimash! This was a Chinese music contest show called "Singer". He was 22 then and beyond fantastic! He's gotten even better now if you can believe it. I would suggest you do more Dimash from the "Singer" episodes. There are like 13 or 14 in all. Or do a song Called Sinful Passion from the Sochi performance. Kind of cool to stick with the older stuff first to get an idea of his journey. Or, you can really do what ever you feel like too. I've subscribed hoping you do more!
Hello Jordan, I'm surprised that (as a Frenchman) you've never heard of SOS d'un Terrien en Détresse. It was composed by Michel Berger (music) and Luc Plamondon (lyrics) for Daniel Balavoine, who recorded it in 1978 for the rock opera Starmania. It was a huge hit worldwide. Grégory Lemarchal, among many others, recorded a beautiful cover of the song. None of the versions comes anywhere near Dimash's on any parameter, in my opinion (French pronunciation excepted... 😉)

Dimash learned French for this song. Dimash is a 25 year old singer from Kazakhstan. This event is called I AM SINGER 2020. It is a competition in China. Dimash was kind of a dark horse they brought in. No one really knew him except in his country where he won many awards. He began his singing training a 3,. He has had a formal classical education to say the least. He has a 6 octave range. He also plays several instruments such as the piano, which he began at 2 years of age, the drums, guitar, and several more. He has writen a few of his songs. His mother and father were singers in Kazakhstan and his father is also a music producer. He got his high range from his mother. What Dimash can do with his voice is nothing short of miraculous. And as well, he is kind, intelligent and deeply loyal to his country. He calls his fans his "Dears' They range from children to people ln their 70s and older! Everyone loves Dimash.

Almost every new song he drops immediately becomes my favorite. I just listened and watch Vita's new version of Diva Dance, by the way. A lot of people who discover him wonder why they've never heard about him before, but it makes it fun for those of us who love Dimash and get to see new people react to him so thanks. Any song will be surprising but "Sinful Passion" really shows off his voice. "Screaming" his official music video is astounding as is his live version of it. He does all the vocals and the instruments in the music video and it's incredible. The duet he does with Yugang "Drunken Concubine and Diva Dance" is incredible. Enjoy! Literally. SOS d’un Terrien en Détresse was written by Michel Berger for the rock opera Starmania (which spawned other popular songs such as Le Monde Est Stone) specifically with Daniel Balavoine in mind. Later it experienced a revival with Gregory Lemarchal. Both singers died young, which somehow contributed to the mystique of the song. Yet no one yet has interpreted it in the way Dimash did. This performance was reported on French TV, following which France 2 invited Dimash to sing it on Les Années Bonheur. He was still having a flu then so that performance is not as good as this one technically, though the lyrics were pronounced better. Regarding the mispronunciations: Dimash sang SOS many times before and after this performance. Yet he never ever made that mistake. My conclusion is that he was extremely having “le trac” that day. He even messed up the lyrics a few times. (j’suis mal dans ma peau instead of Plus beau vu d’en haut) This was his first time in China, a total unknown competing with famous award-winning Chinese singers with lots of fans. Others have corrected him on this. It is the one flaw in the performance. He does learn because every performance after this he corrects the silent “s”. He’s 23 yrs here. His two masters in classical and contemporary music may have missed this in his language studies. Only the French would correct him on it. Good call. He sings in 12 languages. I think his French is better than his English, but he’s still studying that and yet he sings in English too. He really gets it when he makes a mistake especially like this when it changes the whole meaning of a word. Don’t worry about the dears if they get mad. Because he has to learn as an international singer.
No, he never pronounced the “s” before (or after) the Singer performance. There are lots of videos showing him singing this song before 2017 and he never mispronounced it before. Maybe it was nerves or someone told him (incorrectly) that he was mispronouncing it.
Dimash is 25 years old and from Kazakhstan. On youtube there are videos of him singing from F1 to D8, which is over 7 1/2 octaves. He can sing in 12 languages and play seven instruments, and even won a national piano contest. Dimash was a contestant on The World's Best, but he found out the producer's lied to him about kids also competing. He continued until the finals and then took himself out saying he wanted to leave it to the kid contestants to win. Stand up guy. He is loved in Asia and Europe but isn't well known in the U.S. because he won't let the music execs take control of his music and manipulate it into garbage. He's real adamant about being in full control of his music and the creative process, and he does it himself. Dimash started singing and piano lessons when he was 4-5 years old. He spent his school years in music centered schools, and has degrees in classical music, vocal music, contemporary and jazz music, and is currently working on his masters degree in composing. He's 6'3" and has exceptionally long vocal chords, even for someone his height. He's also a model and has been on the cover of many magazines including Men's Health, Lifestyle, Fashion, Elle, and was featured in Cosmopolitan. Oh, and he has perfect pitch. He's one of the most humble and soft spoken people you will meet. Also, yes he's really this good. You can search up youtube videos of him singing live, no mic. I watched a 50+ minute montage of him singing live no mic in various places for various people, on the news, for fans, family, etc. He sounds perfect no matter what. It's crazy.

Bonjour, Dimash est né au Kazakhstan, il parle donc Kazakhi et russe. Il apprend l'anglais et le chinois. Il chante en 12 langues, joue de 7 instruments de musique et surfe sur 6 octaves. The song "Le S.O.S. d'un terrien détresse" is originally Daniel Balavoine's (who died in a helicopter crash in Mali, while doing charity work), but it was made more famous by Grégory Lemarchal, who died of cystic fibrosis at 23. Dimash has performed the song (always slightly differently) in innumerable solo concerts and music festivals.
I think every one of us can remember the day and the moment we first heard Dimash. He has a range of more than 6 octaves and there has never, in recorded history been another male singer in any genre with this range and timbre. Two female singers - the late Peruvian singer Yma Sumac had 9 octaves ( you will see some places saying 4, or 6, but that’s because she was only using four or six of them in the song she was singing). The other is the now elderly Ewa Podles who was comfortable singing in three or four octaves, but had a range of 7. So I knew immediately, that I couldn’t stop listening to Dimash. In fact I had instantly compared him to Yma Sumac, because I had ever heard anyone do what she did since I was six or seven years old, when I first heard her. Едва ли когда-либо появится кто-то, превосходящий его как Певца. Вдвойне смешно и нелепо звучат комментарии о погрешностях в произношении... Сразу вспоминается перевод английского стишка: - Где была ты, киска? - У Королеваы, у английской. - Что ты видела во дворце? - Мышку на ковре... Также и в этом случае. Надо отдать должное, что в ходе прослушивания пения Димаша спесь у рецензента сошла на нет.
