I found my dad in the morning in his bed, it broke me that I couldn't do anything, he passed doing the night. I still see the visions in my head today, and that was 4 years ago. I cry every time I hear this song.

This may sound petty to many, but thank you so much for commenting on the pat on the arm that his dad gave him at the end. That gesture in of itself is so touching and powerful to me. You're the first person that I've heard even mention it, so thank you.
@creinicke1000

I've seen a couple folks comment on it.. "that's what my used to do".. But so many cut it off before that last second and don't even see it much less notice it. The father putting his arm on his.. as it says in the lyrics indicates to me it's something his dad has always done.. men don't always say "I love you".. but they do Pat on the arm to say it.
@Kimberly-dn4mc
@Kimberly-dn4mc 2 года назад
@@creinicke1000 I was speaking with my husband about that very thing, that most people stop watching, and they miss the little tap on the arm, as it appears the video has ended. I agree about men not always saying "I love you," but they do pat on the arm, or back, to show their love. It's a precious thing to see.

@@Kimberly-dn4mc James and his father Charles Blaunt were both high ranking officers in the British army, his father a Colonel and James a Captain. As we all know with a position like that no weakness or emotion is shown, so the hand on the arm and the pat at the end are signs of love the pat is also well done. His father too helping him with this video is wonderful to watch. A beautiful heartbreaking song and so well sung and delivered.....

My Dad had dementia and was unconscious for almost 3 weeks before he passed away. I sat every day with him talking, singing (very badly) and reading poetry to him until he left because I was afraid there was monsters in his subconscious. This song makes me think of that and cry every time I hear it.

I love the line “I’m not your son, your not my father, we’re just two grown men saying good bye” only to then be completely made irrelevant by the total and complete panic and return to just being a little boy of “so daddy won’t you just close your eyes.” From grown man, to little boy afraid for his dad.

Hi Brad this a really moving song written by James Blunt to his Father who was sat next to him in the music video he had been diagnosed with with stage 4 chronic Kidney Disease and none of the family were/had a match. James Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it's a touching farewell to his father".[6] In an interview with Good Morning Britain James Blunt said,[5] Really that has been an amazing moment. Because when you realise your father's mortality it's a great opportunity to say the things I'd like to say to him. So I have written a song called Monsters for him. In the same interview he made a plea for type O kidney donors to step forward. I think a distant cousin came forward and was found to be a match with James's father and in Jan 2020 he had a Kidney transplant I think his father is doing OK now. I know all proceeds for the song are being donated by James Blunt to charities Help for Heroes and British Legion as like James his father was a soldier in the Armed Forces.

His father had never heard this song until James sang it to him. At the time, his father could not find a kidney doner and had stage four cancer. He was dying, and the love they have for each other is breathtaking. Thank God, a doner was found. This was the most powerful song I have ever heard. My mother passed from cancer and also had demintia/Ahlzheimers...it is such a painful journey to take with someone you love so deeply. I felt every one of Jame's tears.

This was the first time James had sung this to his dad, who'd only been recently diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. James' record company tried to get him to use 'Auto-Tune' but he refused because he wanted this to be 100% real, pure and genuine. This was the first and only take and it was recorded exactly as we see it. I have no idea how James managed to keep himself together although his voice does waver slightly at the end, but I think we can all forgive him for that.

His dad had stage 4 kidney failure when James wrote this and a donor couldn't be found. After the video was released a distant cousin came forward who was a match. He donated all the profits from this song to Help For Hero's a UK veterans charity (both him and his dad were in the military)

James Blunt’s “Monster” is a song in which the singer is addressing his father. Indeed it is true-to-life. And as of the release of this track, it appears that the death of James’ dad, Charles Blount, is imminent from stage 4 kidney failure. So being unable to express how he feels about the situation through conventional wording, James has instead decided to put his emotions into this song. No one matched but after this video, a distant cousin matched and donated a kidney. This video is hard to watch especially if you have lost a parent. His dad appears in the video which makes it more emotional.

James’ dad was dying from stage 4 kidney disease . He only had one kidney as he had previously donated one . He only had a short time to live as a donor could not be found. This is his dad in this video and was the first time his dad heard the song . After the video was released a distant cousin came forward to be tested and was a match so he donated a kidney to James’ dad. His dad is doing well the last I heard. James and his dad were both military men and feelings were not always shown. James did a wonderful job on this video. His feelings about his dad were very real.

James Blunt, at the time he recorded this, fully expected to lose his father soon. Already by then, roles were reversing but he was not quite ready to go there His role was no longer son but ”Lets just say we're two grown men saying goodbye ". I held my Dad's hand as Altzheimers took him. By then, he did not know me but he held fast to my hand as long as he could hold on. I have no doubt that James Blunt held himself together only because he wanted to get goodbye said. What a powerful, powerful message. Tore at my heart.

maybe the only one of his songs that could stand with this was one of his first -- "no bravery." he served with the UKs armed forces in kosovo, captain of a recon team, and the things he saw scarred him for life. his father was an army colonel, and james has wondered if his father felt like james let him down, leaving the service and going into modern music. i hope that, with this song, james can convince him that he had, and has, nothing to worry about.
