Emily is his mother. They had an argument and he left but died before they could make up. That's why I always suggest watching the show to reactors. Jacob Restituto reacted to the music comparing the live performances in the show to the recorded soundtrack and now he's reacting to the show. It really is worth watching.
You really really need to react to the show. The music is fantastic but some of the songs like this one in particular are so much more enhanced by seeing the show and the context of the songs.
Here’s what was going on. Luke who was the person singing died, but he left on bad terms with his mom. That was his song to her explaining how he feels. The girl who is Julie, gave Emily this song that Luke wrote. So that way Emily could read it.
This song is a hit. He wrote it for his mom, but never got the chance to give it to her when he was alive. I really think you should watch the show and react to the music, it gives you so much more context! I am 37 and absolutely in love with this show and the music. It is definitely worth the watch!!!
This is what makes the show so amazing, it’s not afraid to so show the consequences to actions that you think are small. Luke never makes up with his mom because he is a teen and thinks he has all the time in the world to do so and that just isn’t the case. And Emily is plagued with guilt for 25 years because she blames herself for not supporting his dream. It’s a powerful message to both sides that say if you love someone then swallow your pride and apologize because you truly never know if you will be able to do it “later”
If u r enjoying the music from this show, listen to Now or Never and Bright. I’m 55, sang in a local hard rock band in the 80’s and I’ve absolutely loved watching this show. This character, Luke, really hit home for me. U need to watch the show.
@DocRock 1965 I am very glad to see your comment. I am also in your age range and I am loving this show. Having grown up in the 80's I can understand Luke's feelings also.
Also, whether you react to the show or just the video for Bright, listen to the very end of the song closely. Madison and Charlie have a slide up harmony that is unbelievable.
Spoilers for the show ahead! He's a ghost. He left home at 17 after fighting with his mother about wanting to be a full time musician. He writes her that song, but unfortunately he dies before a big show, without having time to resolve their conflict. When he reappears as a ghost 25 yrs later, his friend takes the song to his parents to show them how he really felt. I find it sooo heartbreaking because you just know they spent 25 years after their son's death thinking he hated them, and even after they read the song its still a bittersweet resolution because he's still, ya know, DEAD. It's a great show that was marketed to children but is really an all ages show, it deals with death and grief a lot better than other more 'mature' shows. Also the soundtrack is full of bops.
I recommend reacting to Wake up, Bright, Now or Never, I Got The Music, Finally Free and Stand Tall but for Stand Tall you’ll have to watch the episode to understand what’s going on in the video also react to Other Side of Hollywood
You're right this is sad, heartbreaking story. I subscribed your channel after you reacted to edge of great. Liked how you summerized the songs. And that you liked them
If you want to get more views, do a reaction to the series. I would watch it. I search youtube for reaction videos on this show. I know other people do this too. So, you'll get a win win. See a great show and get more followers.
After watching that scene I apologized to my mother cause I had an argument with her in that time and I was scared to not be able to apologize in the end it’s crazy how songs can influence ur feelings songs like that show how lucky we are sometimes
Emily is his mom and she didn't want him to be in the band, so he ran away but then he died. In 2020 he came back as a ghost and the only one who can see him is the girl so she helps him let his mom know he loves her.
Luke ran away to be on a band at 17, but he died. They got the info, 25 years later when he returns as a ghost he finds out his mom 'Emily' & his dad steal celebrate his birthday. Which means they never forgot about him
The one who is sing the song is dead and its about his mother julie the one who gave the letter to his mom can see the boy and before they die the boys were in a band and they ate a bad hotdogs and is now dead and the they were going to become a big band they died and this is what he wanted to say to his mom
