i haven't had any formal training except for these free tips and lessons from this channel and from rocthestagenyc and I have gotten amazingly better in just one month. this is awesome how you guys give these little lessons for free, because there are great singers with a lot of potential out there who don't have the money for lessons. everyone should warm up before singing with some of these videos, it makes a huge difference when recording your voice. I'm going to do a before and after soon.

I have a natural instinct to sing in a mixed voice I can sing in just my head voice after years of being in choir but I am trying to learn how to sing with my chest voice now and it's so hard! especially when i'm a soprano 1 and can only do it in my lowest notes :(

I've been there! You just need to build resonance by doing a lot of humming. M, B, and N are your lucky letters. :) My chest voice got way stronger after I started an online vocal program called the Hybrid Vocal Technique. I practically went from soprano to alto, lol!

I do have a Mixed voice but its too Heady and light ...with very minimal chest resonance...I want it to be more powerful and add more chest resonance to maintain tone and power. How can I do it , Please help

Spending time developing your chest voice will help that. Having a good foundation helps your voice as a whole. There's many exercises you can do to develop it and if you have more questions or want more detail you can find us on Facebook.

do vocal warm ups, vocal fry, tongue rolls etc... for more than 5 minutes , this always helps me to do falsetto better

Brett talked about using vocal fry for that. Try searching (in RU-vid), "singing success head chest voice" or something like that. You should find a few videos covering the topic you're looking for.

Hey Bret, My voice sounds more breathy when i sing notes after high C..I practice cord closure exercises too..though its giving a great change in my voice..the problem of sounding breathy on high notes is still a problem..hope to hear from you.

I second this question. Why is it when I sing high for a while, lower notes I can normally hit are a major struggle? I wouldn't be too surprised if the answer is something obvious.

I have two questions: 1) when you're singing, is the tonge supposed to be flat or have a concaved center fold? 2) how do you sing with a raspy, growly sound like Sam Cooke, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson and Beyonce?

This video was very helpful, but are there any videos you can suggest to improve support at the top end of your chest voice? I'm capable of hitting enough notes in my chest voice but I'm finding it extremely difficult to produce a sound up there that doesn't sound tight/strained, and without that range, I am unable to sing above the Bb below middle C. Could you suggest a video that could help me there please?

Do you mean head voice and falsetto? Mixed voice is more or less a combination of chest voice and head voice. A distinctive quality of falsetto is that it's high (obviously) and airy. Head voice and mix voice have more support and vocal chord connection.

how can I loosen up my chest voice while singing high notes? I'm naturally an alto and I'm used to hitting low notes and I can also hit high notes (within Sia's range) but I've barely sang over the summer and now it feels like I'm stretching to reach that high not in my chest voice any suggestions? (And yes I've done a bunch of warmups for those that are wondering)

Hey Bret. I've been noticing that I may be losing my falsetto. Before, I used falsetto effortless to hit really high notes. Now, when I try to sing those notes in falsetto I can't hit them and it goes right to my head voice. And sometimes my falsetto its not even there! And when it is, it sounds airy and weak. I drink lots of water, I don't smoke or drink alcohol. My head voice is developing more and more, but it seems that the more I work my headvoice, the more my falsetto weakens. Pls help ;)

How do you go from chest voice to a high note on the end in head?

You change where your voice resonates as you go up the scale. The lower notes start in chest and as you get higher you can switch to head in a connected way. If you are referring to something else please let us know!

If you are in mix... you should be able to attain vocal fry, even on the higher notes... Falsetto is the more airy mode that doesn't involve vocal chord closure... as far as I understand... but I'm no Brett Manning :P

head voice should connect to chest voice, if it doesnt connect then youre probably in falsetto

so what is the Upper Chest? is it another name of Chest Voice? or is it Mixed Voice?

You have chest and as you go up into the next register it becomes mix, so there is no in between from chest to mix. You either go chest to head or chest to mix. Your chest to mix is the register that keeps the chest quality while head does not. Let us know if that helped or if you have any more questions!
