Dear Jeff, This is Susan morris from Boston Massachusetts, I went to church on Sunday and my worship team leader told me to finish all my medications and be 100% better. And on the first Sunday in April i,ll start back with my worship team again. To sing again. Anyway that's what Rudy said. I love this tutorial. All the letters. Its great. Love and God bless you Susan morris
Dear Jeff, On Christmas Eve night my choir and I nailed it. And I myself did a wonderful version of" oh Holy night " in second soprano range. And I received two standing ovations. It was a wonderful blessed evening. Thank-you so very much your lip trills help quite a bit. God bless you Jeff Susan Morris
This is amazing, I've been using Jeff Rolka's videos consistently for 10-15 minute periods approximately twice a day for the past week and a half now and I feel my voice is a lot free and these exercises are helping me to strengthen my upper range. Definitely recommend! Simple, easy and it actually works!
Fantastic! Really glad you're getting good results - a testament to your dedication! Ten to fifteen minutes twice a day is an excellent routine! Keep up the great work! Best, Jeff
Appreciate this as I'm an alto / mezzo. This exercise helps me work my higher range without going to a separate mezzo excercise. Don't love lip trills ... but I can tell they're good for me ...
Thank you for you videos so underrated! So detailed, varied and love that you separate out for the different ranges. Please could have we more on improving breathing and breath control? Thanks!!! x
The beginning of this warm up was great for me as it was not so high. I am very unfortunate mezzo who can't go much high. But in another hand my lower notes are warm and i feel comfortable there. Yet still i am jealous of ladies who can hit high notes :(. Jeff, do you have any tips for my "type"? Is this normal for mezzo or should I consider warm ups for contra altos? But i know for sure i am not contra alto.
This is really an extended range video for mezzos and it would be uncommon if you sang as high as this video goes all the time. If you want to extend your upper range focus first on the alignment of your vowels in your thyroarytenoid dominant singing voice (chest voice). If you are familiar with registration event technique (singing over the break) then practicing that along with airflow exercises will get you started. All of those videos are here on the channel. All the best! Jeff
Hey @Jeff Rolka, any tips on how to start with this excersize if the beginning is too low? The "E" is fine, but the "A" is really too low for me. (although I'm not sure if I'm a mezzo or just an unpracticed soprano, since I can hit notes above the High C aswell if I sing more often). It's easier for me from the extended part.
Sure, thanks for watching! You can always wait a key area or two for the exercise to ascend, or stop when it gets too low for comfort. One thing, however, since you mention that one vowel responds better than another vowel, it is worth addressing your vowel formation as well. With good vowel alignment one can get their range to be fairly consistent. All the best! Jeff
Thank you! I will keep that in mind and will work on my vowels too ^_^ Been a while since I've worked with my voice, so need to get back into it all :) your videos are an awesome help!
These are great! I can get almost all these but some are a bit too high for me and need more experience. I’m a mezzo so not sure if it’s over my range a bit but i gotta listen to what my throat is telling me. No sense in straining to hit something way over my range
Exactly. Extended Range videos in my catalogue go to about the limits of any given fach - so some of the top and bottom keys will be just outside the limits of some voices. You might try switching to a lip trill when it gets to those keys and see how that works for you. If that is still too much, just lay out for a key or two. No big deal!
Dear Jeff, Hello how are you doing and feeling? I,m OK. Tonight is my church Choir cantata candle light service and pot luck dinner afterwards I,m a nervous wreck. I,m need some exercises to calm down. Merry Christmas and happy healthy new Year2017/2018 Love and god bless you Susan Morris
I'm doing quite well thank you! Sorry that you're nervous! I am fond of saying that fear is the energy to do well in a foreign situation. Nervousness I consider a small degree of fear, so we want to turn that energy into positive energy! I know I didn't get to this in time to help you with your service, but in the future consider trying one of these: ru-vid.com/group/PL2mQP7sE6PHgeixPDzzJHElQpUDoHwvK6 Best! Jeff
