rocking the old school LB, brings back Jacksonvillain memories,my buddy went to HS w/them & I attended FSCJ w/Wes Borland, my friend has a tape I was remastering, 4 track unreleased LB songs,from their band room & a solo project of Wes & he got a demo burned CD from DJ Lethal when prior to the release of that album,so many stories to tell. Well anyway,I had a custom stereo in my 97' Civic when I bought it & an amp in back w/a sub. All was working,but after a while I had intermittent issues,it would cut off after I raised the volume past a certain level and/or it would just cut off,randomly & I found that pulling the harness out,shaking it,could often get it back on,so I'm thinking some kind of short,but I have a head unit I can replace it w/too,Best Buy though maybe it was the unit,idk, seems multiple issues

Hey, thanks for the comment and watching my video. I got this radio as a donation to do this video. Unfortunately the old school LB cd was stuck in the player and only could use AM/FM radio (hahaha). As far as your Civic goes, anytime to someone has to resort to shaking a wire harness enable for the electronic to work, means there is a bigger problem at hand or poor connection with the harness. What you have described sounds like a bad amp OR sometimes a radio will go into protect or cut out if the volume is too high and the electronics have reached their limits. A blow speaker or close to blown could also be a reason why. It's all about process of elimination when it comes to electronic problems.

@@ryanhoang6560 yea, lmao.. I figured it was odd you install with a CD already in & yea, I reminisce on old school soldier DAZE,LB isn't my fave,but it was fun back then,Wes has far better bands & other Jax local buddies like Cold are better,but I still like some old Bizkit every once in a while. I'm a Fullsail trained audio engineer, musician & home theater installer,so I'm definitely no Sonic rookie, well aware of troubleshooting techniques,but car audio I got limited experience.. though I had similar thoughts..maybe ground issue somewhere between power & head unit and/or amp..& protect engaging,yea.. I got some friends that may help with some Civic system knowledge..thanks.. I'll reply with results.. I got wiring harness for a pioneer to replace the current Kenwood head it came with but they didn't use any adapter.. though it was well done..all connections look solid & shrink wrapped even..so .I may need to probe around DMM style... ☮️✌️

Good video. For the dummy stereo face that's clever. I just put a Jesus statue on my dash with mount Velcro. I've lived in borderline crackhead neighborhoods and no one has messed with my car. Its clean too. Now that its nearly 20 years old I don't even worry about it. I run shopping carts into it and everything.

@@ryanhoang6560 Oh ya, I forgot to mention maybe in the future mention the ex trim stereo/alarm deal. Mine no longer works because the factory alarm is routed through the factory stereo. I may have missed one of the wires in the harness but I'm not really sure. Maybe for the newbies to installations.
@ryanhoang6560
@ryanhoang6560 5 лет назад
Jon yeah you’re correct, I was going to mention it but I had to cut down on the video on my side and it’s only for certain years. I believe it’s 98-00 EX’s. Plus it’s a big deal because you have to stash the factory radio still some where. Not an easy install for beginners. Thanks for the input friend

This video was super helpful with my installation, but it seems I'm having a problem with the antenna connection, I wired up the harness on my JVC and it plays music through CD and Auxillary but my FM/AM isnt working, I dont remember there being a plug in the factory receiver for it. am I missing something? Can I buy an adapter for an antenna?
@ryanhoang6560
@ryanhoang6560 5 лет назад
Hey Grant, did the AM/FM radio work before you installed the JVC unit? If, you must have forgotten to plug it back in. Yes, there is a plug for the antenna AM/FM signal that needs to be replugged into the JVC unit. Its a barrel shaped wired plug (black typically). If it's cut or gone, some how, you will have to solder a new connector on. Hope this helps.
@bassplayah707

@@ryanhoang6560 I feel rather stupid as I checked the back of the unit, and had plugged it into the rear auxillary thinking it was an auxillary cable. Problem has been resolved, could not have seen a better video for what I was doing, thanks Ryan.

I gotta question so the negative goes with the negative or positive with negative?
@ryanhoang6560
@ryanhoang6560 4 года назад
If you are referring to the black negative on a aftermarket harness (car side) and the black negative on the radio harness then yes, negative to negative.

What type of harness do you use. I can’t seem to find it.
@ryanhoang6560
@ryanhoang6560 5 лет назад
TypicalIy when installing a radio, there is two harness's. The 1st one is for the car side, in this case it's a Honda harness. The 2nd harness, is the car radio side (Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, etc.) which should have same with the radio, if you bought it brand new. I use the brand Metra; the part number is 70-1720 (car side Honda harness). You can find this harness online or at your local car audio shop. Hopefully this helps.

Hey there! I need more clarification, you have the same car (96-00 Honda Civic) and you need that plug? If so, you can find it off Amazon, eBay, or your local stereo shop.

So if you ever wanna remove the after market stereo how do you go about bending the tabs back into place?
@ryanhoang6560
@ryanhoang6560 5 лет назад
zenzrd great question. Fortunately the “cage” the metal bracket that’s holds the radio in place, you can simply bend the brackets and bend them again when you reinstall the radio. If that makes sense. The metal is very forgiving. Hopefully this helps. Cheers

@ryanhoang6560 4 года назад
Hello. So there are two cables, the first one should come with the CD player. If it did not come with one you could possibly buy one depending one the make and model of the CD player. The second one is specific to your year, make and model of the vehicle. If you give me more information I might be able to help.

@@ryanhoang6560 Yes I bout the harness from Wal-Mart. It's a 98 civic. We got power at first then some of the wires came loose. We hooked them all back together and are getting nothing.

@ryanhoang6560 3 года назад
Scope Crossfire okay perfect. Very wore color should match color for color. If you have done that already then you need to check the fuses under that driver side dash or under the hood. I bet you a fuse had blown, if you do not have power.

@@ryanhoang6560 it used but it from. another civic that I had
@ryanhoang6560
@ryanhoang6560 4 года назад
Moe x Okay. I will do my best at explaining the trouble shoot. First you want to see if the radio is still good or not. To do so on the radio side harness, you would want to twist the yellow and red wires together, then take your radio to a car battery touch the red and yellow wires onto the positive side of the battery terminals and take the black wire on the radio harness touching the negative battery terminal. If the radio turns on, then you have an issue with your car side harness (Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc.) When doing this troubleshoot make sure the rest of the wires on the radio side harness are not touching together besides the yellow and red. Try that first and then let me know how that works.

@ryanhoang6560
@ryanhoang6560 3 года назад
@lilskeet It can be thought unplugging the factory plug from the factory radio, remember there is a small tab you push down on the factory plug and once you do that, at the same time pull the plug out of the back of the radio. Sometimes a pick or a small flat head screwdriver can help push the small plastic tab down while you’re pulling the plug. Good luck! Thanks for watching.
