Some clarification. Coastal marine layer is called that because it is just that. Moist, usually cool marine air below warmer air in the summer more so but we can have it any time of year with the right conditions. The clouds/fog is visible but not always so we want to be careful to refer to them as marine layer stratus when visible, condensation. When clear, we can still have a marine layer or marine influence as we were taught. Most meteorologists still don't get that, mistakenly calling clouds "marine layer" but they are a visible component of the marine influence from on shore flow pattern. If you don't believe me, anything outside overnight has a thin layer of moisture/water from the dew point being the right temp. So marine layer may or may not have visible moisture. You knew that? Outstanding!!
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 11 месяцев назад
I did actually know that, but only because I read more about it once I got back to the east coast! We rarely get them where I'm at (coastal NC or coastal south Florida). It is a pretty cool/interesting phenomenon! Thank you for the better explanation!

@@AccidentalAviator I kind of figured that. Unique micro climate system. I used to fly out of Long Beach CA with friends and my brother a few times. We would climb to a few thousand feet above the inversion and the OAT would go from low to mid 70s on the surface to over 80º above the cool air inversion. I've also seen it exactly opposite when "the lid is on the kettle" holding in all that hot, damp air. We had CJs at my FBO where I worked for extra high school money. Never flew one. Anyway, you can't fly and not know weather, right? I've seen cold, mid 50s and drizzle on the surface, warm to almost hot above that cold, damp inversion. Yes, I'm a weather geek.

You might check out Half Moon Bay on your next trip to S.F. I think you can land your Citation at our local airport in Half Moon Bay. It's about three or four miles North of the city of HMB. If you're a golfer, we have a great course two miles south of Half Moon Bay at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Mavericks Big Wave surfing is walking distance from the airport. Great local seafood restaurants at the wharf, walking distance from the airport. Santa Cruz and Monterrey are South of us. Lots of videos on youtube on things to do and see. Great video!!

@@AccidentalAviator Whatever you put out is great. I have tried recording some of my flights to Wichita, Springfield, Fayetteville, Little Rock and still haven't had time to edit and post any, so I get how time consuming it is to put out the content that you do. I enjoy watching and learning how different pilots handle different approaches and challenging weather systems lately. You do a great job of explaining to non pilots and pilots on what is going on in the cockpit and what you are seeing on the instruments. I'm sure Flight simmers appreciate it as well. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

@@firepilot109 I appreciate the kind words. It is extremally time consuming, and even more so when you're starting out. Adobe Premier was a pretty steep learning curve, and that's coming from someone that understands computers/programming, but now that I've figured most of what I need out, I can crank one out in 16-20 hours, but that's still a lot. As far as the speed bug, if you’re in vnav mode it bugs speeds in the box, 250 below 10 and 200 when in the terminal environment or below class B. Terminal environment as far as approaches go is 30 miles. I think that’s what you’re seeing? Bugs 190 if you get flaps 15, just as a bit of margin from the 200 limit. Enjoy your videos!

From what I understand you're a computer programmer by trade, and also a pilot though not for a living. How is it that you fly these jets? I'm a prospective student pilot starting from zero and I'm still unsure of what path to take in aviation, but what you do seems fantastic!
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 11 месяцев назад
I apologize for not getting back to you early. I've been pretty busy. Yes, I am a computer programmer as a living, but oddly we have 5 people at my company that are also pilots (or were at one time). I definitely took a odd route into the Citation. When I was younger I could have chosen aviation or computers, and I chose computers because my father was never home (He flew LearJets), and If I had kids I wanted to be there. Although I went into computers, I always stayed in aviation. I own a Turbo Arrow, and my brother is an A&P/IA with a Cardinal. The company I work for owned a Pilatus and we had a full time pilot, the the owner also flew. I just slowly nudged my way into flying right seat in the Pilatus a bunch (our main trips are between Wilmington and Lauderdale and all of my family lives down in Florida). After a bunch of years doing that and knowing the Pilatus inside and out, they finally just sent me to school for that and I became a captain In that (I think) in 2012. In 2013 I stumbled into an opportunity to get my ATP in a Piaggio and jumped on that. Then in 2019 we decided to upgrade from the Pilatus to the CJ3+, so me, the owner and our full time pilot all went to school for that. Since then, our full time pilot retired, and the owner had some medical issues, so it's just me in the left seat, but there's usually always someone on board that is a pilot and can help out in an emergency. I definitely have a great gig where I'm at, and it's the right amount of flying for me. Personally I love the travelling, but I wouldn't want to be away all the time. This doesn't feel like work to me and I'd like to keep it that way! I hope this answers your questions! If I didn't please ask away! I love sharing and talking aviation with everyone!

The only thing I can come up with is FMS referral of 200 KIAS below 2,500 feet AGL within 4 nautical miles of the primary airport of a Class C or Class D airspace area.
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 11 месяцев назад
Except I was at 5,000 feet and Wichita is 1333. I know going out of Lauderdale it jumps from 200kts to 250 when I cross 3,000 feet (I'm assuming there's built in buffers to help you). I think ProPilotPete has it right... that it has something to do with having the approach dialed in and being in the "terminal area" on the side of the approach, but I've never seen it in writing. He thinks he saw/read it in a G3000/5000 book written by someone, so I think I'm going to purchase a copy.
