Aviation from the perspective of someone that doesn't do it for a living!
I'm a computer programmer / database administrator by trade, but aviation has always been part of my life! I began flying when I was 14. Soloed on my 16th birthday and got my private pilots license shortly after my 17th birthday!
Although I decided to go with computers as a profession, aviation has always been a huge part of my life. I have my ATP and a CE525S type rating. Aside from my programming job, I also fly a Cessna Citation CJ3+, and I own a 1981 Piper Turbo Arrow IV.
Join me on my aviation journeys!
Feel free to ask me anything and I'll do my best to reply!
I'm not at a place that I can actually look at the video, but I'm pretty sure I show my iPad at some point near Lake Parker, and I think I just included all of the planes that were on the iPad inbound to Sun N Fun hoping they'd eventually see the video! So, you were probably on the arrival in front of our behind me! What were you flying?
I think I accidentally deleted your reply. After looking at my iPad video, you appear to be departing as I’m arriving over I4! We arrived Friday morning for the weekend!
@@AccidentalAviatormy reply is still there! I mustve been departing on your way in - anywho happy to have to you put my tail number in your description so I can google myself!
It's actually pretty easy, and I'll have it on an upcoming video. I flew to Europe recently and the pilot I flew with likes dual queue, so on his flights we switched it over, and I even tried it and didn't particularly like it. From memory, you'd hit Home / Utilities / Setup / Avionics Settings and then one of the first selections would be "Single or Dual Queue flight director." I'll have to clip a video of it and post it on my Instagram.
That's great! I love reading these type of comments! Most people fear flying because they don't know what's going on, and these videos definitely show you how things are handled!
My next video is KFXE -> MYNN! Look for it in the next 2 weeks! Maybe you were working when I was in and out of there! We usually are somewhere down in the Bahamas 3-4 times per year.
Greetings from Sydney Australia. Really enjoying your videos & excellent commentary. I’m PPL rated & keen to get back into the air after viewing your videos. Only flying Cherokees but feeling inspired to progress further into jets. Many thanks
Awesome! I'd love to know the differences with flying around in Australia! I'm currently on a trip through Europe (on the way back to the states) and staying a few nights in Edinburgh before we cross back over the Atlantic. It's been interesting here and I've recorded every flight! Please let me know how you progress!
Great question. I always climb in FLC mode. However when you go from level flight to climbing, I start with VS just to get the nose pointed up and airspeed bleeding off to start. If you go right to FLC mode from level flight, it autopilot will pitch the plane up unnecessarily to get to your designated airspeed. It's always better to climb in FLC mode as it will prevent you from ever stalling the aircraft.
When the plane first gets off the ground, the wheels are spinning at the speed of rotation (around 110mph in this aircraft, and 80mph in small piston aircraft.) The reason for tapping the brakes would be to stop the wheels from spinning/vibrating. However, in the Citation I believe there's a system to prevent the brakes from being pushed while the aircraft is in the air. It's to prevent you from landing with the brakes on. Also, there's no way to stop the nose from spinning.
That's a great question. There are many smaller jets that you are allowed to fly single-pilot if you are properly rated to do so. I fly both single pilot and as a crew, but usually only record the single-pilot flights as they are generally more interesting.
@@DianneSmith-fv1vi The chances of that happening are pretty low. All smaller planes are flown by single pilots too. However one of my passengers that flies around with me a lot is also a pilot and previously rated in the aircraft. He can help out if need be.
I've been to Key West a few times from the early 90's up until around 2011. I've always driven down though from Miami. I had never seen Key West from the air until now! It's much bigger than I'd imagined. Loved your video!
That's cool.i see you often flying over my house here at the gardens of palm Aire and I at times hang at the observation deck.i had no idea how busy you are in the cockpit 😮 thanks for the trip
I always enjoy your videos. I am an A&P Technician and am in school for Aviation Electronics right now. How could I get in touch with you? I have some questions I would like to ask you about your career.
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I've been rather busy. You can always reach me either in Instagram messenger or email at accidentalaviator@gmail.com! I'll respond as quickly as I can!
What a pro!! Drive Miami to Key West early morning watching sun rise up over Atlantic. K.W. to Miami in the evening and watch sun set over the Gulf!! Incredible!!
No, Fat Albert is "up to 14,000 feet." In fact on this video I think I was around 11,000 feet and the TCAS altitude said -1500, so it would have been around 9,500 feet. Don't quote me on that as I'm guessing at what I remember. It's tethered to a cable on the ground so if you wander into the restricted area, you could hit it. I wonder if that's ever happened! It is in a restricted area, so you're not supposed to be in there!
Just liked and followed. LOVED your flight from FL Exec to KEYW. Great narration and explanation, super video quality. Just great all the way around! Safe flying!
So far I think that's my best video yet and I'm learning more and more as I go! I've got some great videos coming as I'm in the middle of an Atlantic crossing and I'm recording every flight.
I'm a controller in Miami Center who works the routes you come in and out of into FXE! Been loving the channel. Next time you fly in give me a heads up so I can work your plane!
Cool! So many people tell me "hey let me know when you're going to be in xxx" I can't keep track of it! The best way to know when I'll be flying is the Friday or Saturday before a Dolphins game and the Monday after! I'm not saying that always happens, but we go to all of the home games!
I really love to read comments like this! A lot of the "fear of flying" for people is really the "fear of the unknown!" You get scared of the things you can't see or be in control of. This definitely provides a little perspective as to what's going on up there. I'm currently in the middle of an Atlantic Crossing and I have a second pilot on board, so you'll now see how we work together as a crew! It will be very similar to how the airlines handle everything.
Cool! If you haven't, come say hi next time we're in town! You work at at the one of the best FBOs in the country! Please let me know how you progress with your flying!

I love it there, but I haven't been back in quite some time! I was supposed to pick up some passengers there about 6 months ago and the weather was so overcast we had to divert to Tamiami.
@@AccidentalAviator worked for a lawyer there for a summer 1983 who let me ride with him to tamiami. Cardinal rg...long before I dreamed of being a and p. They had dc3s spraying for mosquitos back then.
The meow on guard at 13:06 followed by the old timer telling them to "go back to kindergarten" is so fitting for SoFlo aviation. Glad to see it never changes. Thanks for the content, please keep it coming.
You're the first one that actually caught/comment on that. I'd say definitely typical SoFlo, but it really has gotten out of hand across the country! I can't do a 2 hour flight without bickering on guard!
