Flybubble Nancy and I often like to go a hill walk 🚶on our local Sussex South Downs hills first thing in the morning 🌄 to get some exercise and build up a healthy appetite before breakfast 🥞🥐🥓🍳😋. If the weather conditions allow, we sometimes make it a hike and fly 🚶🪂 e.g. as seen in this new Flybubble video! 😀🎦

I always thought of the Niviuk Skin 3P a bit of a compromise wing. I think the advantage of that wing is that's its easy to fly, self-stabilising and pitch/roll-stable, easy take-off, so good for less experienced pilots. It also gives support to the pilot maybe a bit quicker than a regular wing. One thing I never liked was the risers, and sorting the lines (all the same colour if I remember right?). But for weight/volume it's not massively different to a regular doubleskin (Niviuk Skin 3p 16m is 1.6kg, whereas an Advance Pi3 16m is 1.85kg, both can be packed pretty small, especially with a vacuum bag. I'd say that Pilot demands are higher on the Pi3 due to the higher speeds, but for that extra 250g you get a lot more performance and a way more versatile wing. So in my eyes the Skin 3p doesn't make a lot of sense. What I do think is super interesting is comparing wings like the Skywalk Pace and Run and Fly 2 to regular wings. The Skywalk Pace is tiny in 16m size, and only 1.05kg. The R+F and the Pace aren't compromises, they are only a descent tool. That said , I'm super impressed with the Pace, it has really nice colored lines, nice risers and in calm air I was getting a Glide Ratio between 5 and 6.

Hi, looks like you're not flying with a reserve... This is a non-judgemental question, and I am a noob so please consider it in that light, but how commonly do people fly without reserves?
@2knedlici
@2knedlici 10 месяцев назад
For that condition and this type of hill and flight I will fly without reserve also … there was no planing to thermal and when you fly that low and with no traffic then ppl fly it without 💁‍♂️

@thesuit4820 Hi, you are correct, for this very simple flight in easy conditions with very safe wings and no other pilots around we chose to fly without a reserve, which is quite unusual for us. 🤓 In answer to your question, to my knowledge most paraglider pilots fly with at least one reserve most of the time, as do we. 🪂

Would a reserve even be an option this close to the ground?

I bought my first single skin this year, it is great in no wing conditions. Inflation is easy, pitch and roll stable, descent glide. But in a soaring wind or thermal conditions it's performance is terrible. Worst wing I have every purchased, it is too limited in use!

@ChasingContours 10 месяцев назад
I’ve got a UFO2 and soaring and thermal performance is good. The only downside is penetration so yeah between thermals it’s not good but equally you don’t buy a single skin to go XC. Additionally the sizes are designed small so you’re never going to compete with a full size wing when it comes to thermalling. The advantages of weight, stability, launch ease and very very easy packing, even standing up, makes them super useful.
@balkan_pil0t
@balkan_pil0t 10 месяцев назад
Exactly, they have poor penetration into the wind. Worst then a full size paraglider. This makes it much more limited in use, even in early morning hike and fly missions. A lightweight mini wing is only a couple 100 grams more in weight and has better performance on every single front.

@@balkan_pil0t 100g? Let's not debase the conversation with exaggeration. Additionally you're putting performance above all other factors. On a sketchy short launch in nil wind, having a wing that inflate in 2 steps and remain inflated in near no wind, is a huge advantage. Also one that you can easily pack again if you decide not to go. Regardless of weight pack size is also a factor if climbing, scrambling or running. And the stability in flight or when kiting a single skin is unmatched. So many positives outweigh the few KMPH penetration you loose for the purpose a single skin is designed for.

If you read the above comment you will see I wrote a couple of 100grams…. I have had to hike back with my single skin more then I ever have with any other type of wing (paraglider, speedwing, mini-wing) Each time is was because of wind, and each time I could have flown if I was not packing a single skin.

Just curious, did you had the chance of using the nova doubleskin, for H&F? What do you think of it?
@andyjones5120
@andyjones5120 10 месяцев назад
Hey how’s it going..I have a nova doubleskin and a run and fly and the double skin is a very nice wing to fly and will happily soar away.I fly it with a range x-alps 2 so with reserve I have a proper flying wing that is east to carry up and very compact and has reasonable performance.The run and fly is fun too but really just a decent tool.I also fly a BGD base 2 lite with woody valley GTO light 2 for the short carry ups and proper XC days.I have to see the 3 sets of kit all work great on their chosen days…I live in west of Ireland so a lot of long carry ups and H&F days up big mountains 🤪so light kit is handy!!!
