Singlehanded docking a sailboat in a slip with pilings

This is how I'm docking my sailboat singlehanded, in a slip with pilings. I hope you can use it or some parts of it :) Practice in light or no wind and then progressively in more wind and from different directions. This video was recorded in low wind conditions, but you can use this method in stronger winds too. If any questions, feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you.

Thank you very much for a very instructive video, which I will definitely use in the future. The angle of video perfect so that the observer can see all the details. Would like more videos Good wind to you Tusind tak for en meget instruktiv video, som jeg helt klart vil anvende fremadrettet. Vinklen med video perfekt, så iagttageren kan se alle detaljer. Gerne flere videoer🙂 God vind til dig⚓⛵

@@martinrasmussenHave seen several videos here on RU-vid, but not with such good and controlled technique. Would you like to think about a longship with jump technique? Thank you once again Har set adskillige videoer her på RU-vid, men ikke med så god og kontrolleret teknik. Du må gerne tænke over en langskibs med spring teknik? Tak endnu en gang👍

Great video. Coming from America to the EU, these post/piling moorings are bit common. I may use this exact technique, but with the eyes normally used for my jib sheets, and then from there to the winches like you have. I also like the idea of mounting midship cleats on the rails...

Great detailed video. Please make one when you have a lot of crosswind on the same stern in approach witout any boats to push against.

Schitterend opgenomen! Prachtig die rust. Het nut ontgaat me volledig. Wellicht is het met een Bavaria allemaal wat makkelijker. Mooi gedaan!👍

great video... it gives me inspiration. I'm about to take our boat out for its maiden voyage this weekend after 2 years of work and my biggest fear is the fore and aft mooring we are on and getting in and out. Close proximity to other boats and inexperienced crew (and me).

Nicely done. If I want to go sailing, most of the time it is solo. So like you, docking maneuvers have to be done solo. Thanks for sharing

@martinrasmussen I thoroughly enjoy solo sailing... and having friends and family on-board. But solo sailing tends to be more relaxing. There is no worry about others.

Zero wind, easy. Try it in 20 kts crosswind, 2 kt current, and intercoastal boat wake like I do in South Florida. That takes skill.

It’s good to see a video about securing to a pilon dock which are very common in places with low tidal range.

Did you ever get inside entirely? How did you secure the stern lines? Thise need to be crossed…
@martinrasmussen
@martinrasmussen 4 месяца назад
Yes, normally, I do as described and rearrange one stern line at the time from the current setup to the stern clamps when secured at the dock. I never cross the stern lines, though 😊
