Sinking Cedar Trees for habitat 

Cedars hold fish great. The only thing I hate about them is they take alot of weight to sink big ones.

Cedar trees are about the worst possible option for brush. First of all, cedars have volatile oils that really bother fish. The cedars that go into the water will take a minimum of 6 weeks to start holding fish. Second, the fish and game guys use cedars because they are readily available and easy to work with, basically it saves time because they are getting paid to work. In my opinion, nothing beats hardwoods like oak, maple, sycamore, or sweet gum. My personal favorite is willow for shallow water (less than 6 feet) and ornamental pear or hardwood for deep water. I have sunk both willow and pear and caught fish out of it 15 minutes later. I don't really care if the willow, hardwood, or pear doesn't last as long. I can always sink more next year.
