Served 6 years in the navy with two years on Ark Royal and 2 years on Illustrious as a stoker in the early 2000's. Chills every time i hear that general alarm, super haunting sound.

Stephen Tonkin lost his life on H.M.S Coventry at the Falklands; he was 18 years old. He lived with his parents and younger brother Paul in Eckington, Derbyshire. Tonkin's lived 100 yards away from me.

I'm a Canadian who finds the Falklands War very interesting but, damn, respect to the British sailors who were lost and the skill of the Argentinians. Regardless of political outcome, I hope you respect each other's skills. Many heartwarming videos on RU-vid of respectful veterans - both Brit and Argie - meeting up.

Agreed. It’s the last war I can think of where both sides had equal technology but British leadership and training made the difference.

As a former Snipe in the US Navy, I really appreciate your detail on the damage control. I've been in fire control schools, once your down 2 flights with your fire gear on, hauling a 2.5" fire hose fully charged, you run into 150-degree fires (to put out with your fire hose) I think it was fired by propane. Simulated engine room. 50% percent of the crew had already bailed to the top floor. But they were 18, How could they know, the rest of the ship depended on firefighting.

Their watch is not over, they are on “eternal watch” or “eternal patrol” if the vessel is a submarine. (At least in the USN, I thought the RN used the same terminology)

I really enjoy your Zulu clock timer, those who served in the RN, USN or other major Navy understands the pace of combat, but most civilians don’t. I served on a USN DDG with Coventry in the Persian Gulf during convoy operations during the Iran/ Iraq war, miserable duty, great vessel and crew

Don't know if this is true but apparently there was Harriers in the vicinity and said they will take care of the aircraft but Coventry refused and said they could take care of it themselves ?

I may be mistaken but I imagine there'd be a risk of friendly fire if the Harrier came on station while chucking Seadarts in the air

The top secret report ( the one NOT for public consumption ) was scathing of Hart Dyke with phrases such as "command incompetence" and "performance outside of training mandate" - these, amongst other aspects, referring to active defence and positioning ( in blocking Broadsword's abiility to missile launch ).
@tee2899
@tee2899 3 года назад
Respect for Captain Hart-Dyke. He did what was right and just for his ship and crew at that time. Broadsword could have moved to try and get a lock on.

The interjections of supposed tannoy during action stations was to say the least both childish and unrequired, anyone who has served know what it is really like. It stiill worries me that so many ships were lost in this conflict, much coming from the fact that these vessels are built like sardine tins considering that they are very likely to be hit by all sorts of things, none without the idea of causing damage. This folly can be seen directly after work up when the vessel has seen some bad weather plus hard work, the fact that they are welded plate becomes very clear as on can count the bulkheads. All warships require both sides to have belt armour and deck armour. I served on a battle class destroyer as my first ship and feel that at least it did have some protection for vital parts, after all it is a warship not a low boat, even the Daring class had armoured gun turrets even though it was a bit thin, there was one thing that really comes down to luck a nd that was the number of people actually saved thank God , it could have been a lot worse but i would say that most losses were from the engineering dept Who really dont stand a chance as the work space itself is small and only makes any explosion twice as dangerous beside.being below or just on the waterline. The real truth is that by now common sence should have prevailed and the likes of war condemed to the history books.

@@TheShipYard2 When I saw the original comment which I replied to I did check the wiki article and compared it to the video. I will certainly admit that you added additional material, however far more than should be acceptable is word for word or absolutely minimally reworded direct from the article. More disappointing was checking your other videos and finding that in some nearly the entire script is directly from the wiki. Like many others I found your channel due to the collaboration with Drachinifel and was expecting similar levels of quality, but this level of plagiarism is a real let down and I hope not indicative of what you find acceptable in your actual naval career.

@@mattwilliams3456 i totally agree :( i will admit using Wikipedia was a bad idea, and i hate i don't use anything else. But, i hope, if you remain, tomorrow, i want you to see that im trying not to use wiki, but other sources, and as of tomorrows video, the source will be listed. My time at sea has made me reflect on the content i had released over the year and a half the channel has been around and i do want to rip those videos off the internet and redo the videos, not using crap sauces and the scripts you have explained. There is plans for remakes in the works already, with 10 weeks remake Type055 and that is going to follow a pattern of videos released that have better scripts. I just want people to know i have the integrity to do my best and let people know the truth and tell them a story that is accurate, so im sorry, and i have screwed up in the past, but i want videos in the future to be as accurate as possible with sources and integrity at its core.
