What brave German sailors singing while trapped...My Grandad fought the Germans in the desert and they had huge respect for them...As men and brave soldiers ..No SS were in the western desert to give Germany a bad name... Salute your sailors.....England 2022

I've read about this ship and the British never let up on trying to blow it to pieces, man they just kept coming back, planes, mini submarines, they were going to get that battleship no matter what it took. Churchill was probably calling up the Navy every day; You get Tirpitz yet!?!?!

Just the thought of them Singing the anthem inside the ship as they were drowning gives me chills.

Once again good vid spoilt by faulty information! The 12,000 lb bomb was the TALLBOY, That was it,s only name. Barnes Wallis designed an even bigger bomb, At 22,000 lb (nearly 10 tons) THIS was called the earthquake bomb! The idea was that a near miss with it was as effective as a hit. It was designed to pass through and under a target, The Beilefeld Viaduct was first, It was blown up with very little rubble to be seen because when the bomd exploded under the viaduct it created a massive crater into which the viaduct arches fell then the soil etc came back down on top of the hole filling a lot of it back in. I believe this is called the "camoflet" effect Dave

I watching Drain the Oceans on Tirpitz now...it worked perfectly, Tirpitz is flipped upside down and hull is heavily pocked marked and punctured, not far away lies an enormous crater in the sea floor, several went straight threw, huge holes in hull shows where bombs came out the bottom.

There was zero smoke screen (nebelwerfer's) in her location in Tromsø. To be more accurate they was there but was not wired/connected yet

Hitler committed suicide just four months after the Tirpitz was sunk. It was a waste of effort since Germany was just weeks from completely collapsing, and the ship itself was barely functioning. They should have dropped those bombs on Hitler's bunker to speed up the end of the war. Instead they wasted all that effort, (and German lives), to sink a ship that was never to sail or be a threat again. It made no sense. Since Russia was closer to Berlin, my guess is that they were in no rush to conclude the war until the allies got deeper into German territory.

I wonder if you could consider Tirpitz the most successful German ship in WW2? Since its very existence meant Arctic convoys needed massive escorts consisting of battleships and carriers, it caused PQ 17 to scatter and be destroyed, I'm guessing it made convoys take a longer route to Russia and the RAF lost many planes and bombs trying to destroy her. She did more good than HMS Hood or the Nelson class that's for sure.

Sinking it was war- using a much bombed target, (the second- to- last time with the 11, 000 pound tallboy) to billet a thousand young men was criminal. The ship no longer had any real use, but the Kriegsmarine wanted to pretend it did. At this time Hitler was ruthlessly combing out German manpower for the army- his last service that could still strike blows. The surface fleet was a prime source ( in a typical fit he'd wanted to scrap it in 1943) and keeping Tirpitz fully manned was a way for Navy brass to imagine they still had a role.

They did both of these things. They even had an airfield nearby on call. One of the airmen assigned to protecting the Tirpitz was one of Germany's best pilots. He had shot down hundreds of enemy aircraft.
