If you are on the fence about this model, don’t be. Just try it, chances are very high you will be impressed. Also Adam is selling the black dial Sinn 104 Email me to buy crvluv@yahoo.com $1100 fresh serviced ready to go.
If I had $1500 today to spend on a watch I would get the Sinn 104 Arabic black dial on the H-link. I love the size, style, and that bidirectional countdown bezel.
Hi mate, the service costs seems way to high - on the official Sinn homepage -> it’s € 180,- (~200 bucks) for a factory revision (dismantle, clean, lubricate, assemble and adjust the movement, exchange of all technically necessary parts)renewing the sealing system (all O-rings incl. Crown, pushers only if technically necessary), water pressure test, cleaning the case, repairing the metal bracelet (if necessary and possible, no replacement of the clasp) & final check - all for $ 200,- !! IMO the screwed you 😡
Have a couple of inexpensive automatic Seiko's and Invicta's that are 12 to 15 years old. Never been serviced, and they keep perfect time. I wonder about a lot of these "luxury" items, that often do not have anywhere near the durability of the most basic of items in the same category.
Great review! You are right about the service costs. My local watch shop charges $240Cad ($180usd) to do a full service on 2824 and sw200 movements. At those prices you could just buy a new movement and have it installed haha.
My local AD provides the first Rolex service for free when you buy the watch from them. Their service fee for Rolex is just $600. The Sinn service fee is excessive.
I got a green one too, it stopped working after 2 days, completely stopped. Went back to AD for a week, problem seems to be fixed, the AD's repairman said that a screw was loose and he only tightened the screw and works again. Although the fix was quick, but I didn't expect this kind of sloppy QC from Sinn. This is my first Sinn, the experience discouraged me from getting another.
That also happened to me. with other watches. And sometimes it's just the other way round - that's why one should always try on the desired watch, if possible.
Wow! 560 for service! That's a lot for a service. I wanted a Sinn 104, but I may have to look at something else if a service cost that much. I may go with the phoibus great wall at 519.00, it has the eta 2824-2 movement, 500 meter water resistant, double dome anti reflective sapphire crystal. Bezel inlay is sapphire covered. That's the price I'm looking at. (actually the one my wife says I could afford) 🙁
@@scottsj4625 it won't be. Just go to a reputable watchmaker. If course I'd ask the manufacturer for pricing and what a service consists of and compare that to a watchmaker then make a decision. But ETA movements really aren't hard to service
Am in NY and have a swiss trained watchmaker and we are going to be doing service for watches and making custom modifications for various brands. In The NY area most of the stores don't have a good watchmaker they have hacks...
400 is right on par with what mainstream brands charge for a basic ETA service. If you go private watchmaker you'll save a little but it will still likely be over 300
I just bought the 104 special edition $30 more. From probably the same AD as you. $1475 with sales tax. Not a bracelet fan. So just as happy. If it wasn’t for the holidays would have had it Friday. Can’t wait. The Selita movement was a slight disappointment. But not a big deal. Heard both ways with most wanting eta. As you said it isn’t their base movement. Even Oris is using them.
I'm torn between this and the formex essence chrono. They are both so good. The Formex seems a little better especially with the chronometer movement SW200 vs the standard sw220-1. I think it also traverses the line between dress watch and working tool visually a bit better than the sinn. But the sinn has a great counting bezel and looks like something a P-51 Mustang pilot would wear... Tough choices, what do you think?
Great observation about the Sinn. The 104 with indices and anthracite dial on an H-link is my next big purchase. TBH, I can't wait to spend that 1700.00 USD 💸💸💸
Thanks for this side by side video of the 104 Series. I am not into green dials but this one is cool . I think if it were EZM 10 then service cost wouldn't sound too much albeit it would still be kinda expensive but for a non chronograph movement it sounded costly to me too .
Oh that service price. Mine has an issue with the crown not being 100% smooth at times. Was going to send it in but now I may just live with it. What to do?
Hey Rob, great video again! Can you check if there are other bezel insert options for the Sinn 104? Like a black ceramic lumed 12 hour GMT one? Lumewise, way weaker then Seiko Lumibrite?
The black strap is from Sinn. I think the clasp is, too. You can order directly from Sinn via their online shop or send them an email, if the strap isn't available on the shop yet. Take note, that there are different lengths available, too (S, M, L).
Am I crazy or does the Arabic dial have more glossy and the indices dial is more matte? How are these dials in real life? How deep black are they and are they more matte or glossy?
I had to pay 6.625% sales tax on mine. Basically the same as VAT. Up until recently you didn’t have to pay crossing state lines. Unless they have any operations in your state.
Is it just me, or does the brushing of the lugs not fit entirely with the end links of the bracelet? Every time I see a picture of the 104 the surfaces seem to be a little bit off...
Keep coming back to this watch. I had been focussing on Omega AT for a while but don't feel it is 3 times better (based on price) then 104. I also like 556...Any thoughts on 556?
@@shashankshukla8182 good point. My biggest challenge as a watch euthasiast with limited resources is what to buy. I have been contemplating a Grand Seiko but for the price would I be happier with a Transocean, Alipininist, and a Sarx055. Defering decisions to end of year and just doing my research and talking to fellow enthusiasts.

I like the Arabic version but does the lume lasts throughout the night, because I’m wearing my watches while sleeping, I’m guessing the indices one is better in that regard...?
Hey Rob, don't know if you'll see this but how do you feel the 104 compares to the Monta Triumph... Personally deciding between these two (specifically the Monta Atlas which has a similar case and design to the Triumph). Would love to hear your thoughts!
Where did you let it be serviced? I dont know if im allowed to post links here, but there is a pdf with prices from 2017 and its like the second google entry. The weird thing is, that i had found this list two years back on the SInn website, but cant find it there any more. Regarding to the list you got ripped off. Tell me if i can or should post the link.
@@RandomRobReviews Alright, I found the most actuell list from 2018: www.sinn.de/en/Download/Sinn_ServicePriceList_180901.pdf here is the list from 2017, prices went up, but over 400 is still too much. www.sinn.de/en/Download/Sinn_ServicePriceList_170828.pdf
Hey! I realize this response is late, but just in case others read this later - the butterfly clasp is from Sinn, not aftermarket. You can find it on WatchBuys website in the U.S. (It’s buried in the page for Sinn straps, but you have to scroll way down through all the straps to find it. Currently selling for 90 USD.)
If you’re buying in this price range you’re better off just ponying up a bit more for a used Tudor, Omega, or GS. This model, while certainly attractive, has no redeeming qualities justifying the price point. Basic ETA movement with average finishing. Just my two sense, but if you must have it then by all means enjoy!!
To identify different colors of same model “colorways” is the correct word. Often I use wrong word but it’s rare to be called out for using the correct word. 😁
Someone has got to pay for those utterly ridiculous energy prices in Germany... 🤷♂😂 I agree, that you're definitely paying a premium nowadays, but since they just announced the new clasp yesterday, I decided to order one anyway.
There is a $230 difference for the bracelet? They are already overpriced. The case itself isn't that interesting. The dial? Boring. I just dont see the value. Are the specs great? Sure. But as a whole, I cant say there's a wow factor at all.
Tyler Alvarez have you priced bracelets or links lately? $230 is very reasonable for an OEM bracelet. Seiko wants about $16 a link for my PADI Turtle plus 8.95 shipping. Tudor is $65 a link for the Black Bay. When I bought mine I didn’t buy it on the bracelet. I wish I had. Buying the bracelet now is more expensive.
@@jfm562 That's a fair comment.Replacing a strap for a Casio with a genuine part is a small fortune compared to the price of watches original boxed up price.?
They seem overpriced because Sinn do a good job not letting them end up in the grey market. Also $230 for bracelet isn’t bad at all. It’s definitely a watch you need to see in person to appreciate and if you don’t think it’s worth it that’s fine too.
Len Powell it is frustrating. I have a huge wrist, 9.5", Seiko used to send 2-3 links to me for free. I did that with my Orange Monster almost ten years ago. Marathon does it too at no cost. I called Seiko last week looking for 2-3 links for my Turtle PADI's bracelet. It was going to be about $55 for three links shipped. I am not willing to pay that for three links. I bought it on eBay not an AD. I was told the AD could order me extra links at no cost. Don't even get me started on the $65 Tudor links! I'm sure Rolex is worse.
@@jfm562 First off I doubt I would engage in a fist fight with you! Seriously though aftermarket sales with many items come at ludicrous cost! I guess it's capitalism but equally a rip off?I have heard horror stories just being allowed to buy links from a certain Rolex never mind the cost! I am an old fashioned guy that hates being ripped off and stripped of hard earned cash by companies that think they have you over a barrel! Cheers,Len.
overrated, nothing that a Japanese does not have. Seiko, Orient and Citizen are self-manufactured, this is just a generic Swiss movement adorned like so many others.
