Notice how the lab above kron in the intro focuses specifically on transport research. How its directly connected in the narrative with the mysterious cause of their 10,000 year flight. Notice how the vasari in game are experts at travel through a network of phase space gates. Its speculative what they unleashed but I think the vasari managed to either caused a false vacuum collapse or tunneled into a higher dimension and unleash a being not of this reality. Its not likely the former because the dark fleet in the lore is implied to have been able to engage the entity in combat based off how a sole heavily damaged cruiser survived the encounter. But anyways I think this dimension they opened a portal to is hell. Whats after them is literally the devil coming to the punish them for their sins. I make this guess based on how the surviving crew were driven totally mad with terror to the point of incoherency. At the very least I believe the entity has some type of psionic powers similar to the advent if you think of how revelation battlecruisers can provoke planetwide hysteria. I think all of this may connect directly with the mysterious corruption which the advent rebels believe has diverted the unity away from their true purpose onto their millenia long quest for vengence. I think that the prophecies of the unity will be fulfilled in the form of all three of them confronting and slaying the devil. With the unitys psitech playing a crucial role in shielding them and providing an immunity to the terror of hell by helping open another portal using vasari phase gate tech which leads to a dimension of pure bliss then the two cosmically opposed metaphysical forces of good and evil will engage in a battle to the death. It seems that the UFO aliens would go out of their way to make contact with the Voyager spacecraft and use the satellite communications to contact earth and the government who built it since they would be the most advanced and willing to hear their sad stories of leaving.
I gave up on all variants except the one that adds like 6 news factions or whatever. That one really spices up the variety.. PIRATES are an actual faction with both loyalist and rebels.. Trying to learnt o master all the other races is quite the challenge
