“How to overcome addictions for followers of Jesus Christ!” A step by step guide to “Fasting.” “What is fasting? And why do we do it?” Fasting” simply means to take a temporary, or, short- term break from something In order to please the one and only God ALMIGHTY. The MAIN purpose of fasting is to: ****INTERRUPT THE PATTERN OF EVERYDAY USE**** (please do not forget this) Here’s what I mean. With fasting, if done correctly, you will NOT be giving in to your addiction/ temptation everyday, but just once in a while. And then eventually, not at all. “Why do we fast?” Here’s why: when you CANNOT resist (something) such as alcohol, adult film, drugs or cigarettes, then THOSE THINGS have power and control OVER YOU. but when you CAN resist these things, then YOU have power and control over IT/ THEM. This is why it is important to fast regularly. So that you can prevent any of the such things from from Having power or control over you. “what should you be fasting from?” Realistically speaking, you should be aiming to fast from the The temptations/ addictions that are holding most followers of Jesus Christ in bondage to sin. So that would be: drugs/ herbal plants, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, adult entertainment content, and Worldly music. (Just to name a few) These things do not just rule the lives of believers, but they also rule the lives of unbelievers as well. So for this reason, you should fast from these things because you do not want these things which oppose the Holy Spirit to rule or dictate how you live. (“Step by step Instructions on how to fast correctly”) The beautiful thing about fasting in the name of Jesus Christ is that You get to decide how long your own fasting break will last. Yes, it is entirely up to you how long your fast will be! Fasting is Completely self manageable! For your first ever fast, I highly recommend that you simply start off easy. One of the keys to fasting successfully is to NOT overwhelm yourself with impossible expectations. Avoid this at all costs. Because trust me, Fasting is a lot harder than It looks, so it’s best that you fast only for as long as you can handle! This is Especially true if you are person who has never fasted before. When I say impossible expectations; I mean do NOT try to go on a one year fast from marijuana if you smoke everyday!. That is way too excessive. If you cannot go one day without marijuana, then how will you go one year? Do you see what I mean? Do not overwhelm yourself! Baby steps. Trust me on this, you want to Start off easy. It’s best to just start off with an extremely small or short fast first. Something that’s easy to achieve. So let’s say.....How about start off with a 24-48 hours fast FIRST to get you started. (1 or 2 day fast). Something easy. After your 24-48 hour fast is up, literally a day or two later, you should be fasting again. After a 2 day fast, try increasing your next one to a 3 day fast next. and Then a day or two later after your 3 day fast, you should try going on a 4 day fast, and then a one week fast, and then a two week fast, and so on and so forth. The goal is to make sure that your fasts are getting longer and longer over time. But the key to all of this is, *fasting one after another*, In order to beat your addiction you must fast often, basically all year long. (Reminder), Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, please Remember, that in order for this to work, YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO honor the agreement of your fasting period! (Meaning that ), if you’ve decided that you’re fasting from alcohol for two days, then you Actually need to HONOR your words, and resist the alcohol for 2 days like you had said! Honoring your commitment is the second key. With Fasting, if you said it, you have to do it. Because Should you decide to give in to your addiction or temptation before the fasting period is over, then I am afraid to say that, you would have failed at your fast, unfortunately to say. A fast is only TRULY successful if you actually resist the temptation for the time that you said you would. So yes, keeping your word is mighty important! (Motivation for fasting) Remember guys, ALL Fasting is dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ the Messiah. So please make sure that you are giving the Lord Jesus Christ nothing but your best efforts! Seeing as that He is the Lord. Never fast to make yourself proud. But only the Lord. “At what point should you try to quit your addiction completely?” Once you reach the point where you are able to go 4 weeks, (or more), without giving in to your temptation or addiction, then that’s when you should try to quit for good! If you’re 4 weeks clean from you addiction then there’s no point in turning back now, because you’d be free!

My brother, you do have to obey His laws... you have to control and have faith. You may fall to the sin sometimes but then ask yourself, what did u learn from it? Not keep on sinning and ask God for forgiveness.... the world doesnt work that way. May God bless you

I've come to see through your sermons how much I have to learn and at times(like this video) have to unlearn Pastor Steven. I was never taught His grace as you teach it. I struggle with so much in my life, because I have so little understanding of His true Love for us. I Thank the Lord that he brought you into my life, for he speaks to me thru you. I needed to hear this. Been soo surrounded my spirits of greed, confusion and uncertainty about God’s will for the past two years. I’ve tried soo much to fight spiritual warfare with my own strength to the point of wanting to give up. Fear of possession and frustration of God not completely freeing me from all demon attacks. I ran away from my nursing degree coz I didn’t want to revise for it but now on my childcare apprenticeship, God yet again points out to me that I cannot run from what he has placed in my life to mold, grow me and prepare me for him Will. I’ve been soo focused on aligning God to my own desired will instead of submitting to his Will and allowing him to align me to it. God thank you soo much for not giving up on me and thank you for opening me up to your world. Also everyone pay attention to not miss God’s revelations from your dreams.

I think you might not be understanding what Steve Furtick is saying. He is not saying that we should not quit sinning. Just the way that churches often present their message of "quit sinning" oftentimes doesn't help people to actually quit sinning.
@@marilenat.1271 that is true but what gets me in this is actually that Steven is saying in his eyes it is better to Die then to lose faith in the Lord. Roman's 6:23 says for the wages of sin is death. Does not say growth. Matter of fact sin stunts your growth with Christ. He took cussing as an example yet God will never rather us Sin. Sin is Death, sin is separation, sin is the opposite of growth. Jesus says to sin no more. Nit saying sin has never been used before as a blessing but God rather blesses for good than for evil. That's explained in 1 Peter.
Bottom line is: the GOSPEL is the ONLY thing that helps us get "free" as this "anointed" man of God. The GOSPEL is NOT "quit sinning". The GOSPEL, the GOOD NEWS, is that you CAN'T quit completely (because we will always be sinful), and it is CHRIST that sets us free. Period. The end. Gal 5:1: For FREEDOM, CHRIST has set us free; stand FIRM therefore and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

In all respect I must disagree. Had I not realized the sin of which I found myself in I would not have realized it was God I needed saving from, not anyone or anything else. We are not perfect and never will be. If we learned from our sin each time we'd be perfect. He teaches us through our sin that we can find that satisfaction in Him. It's a process that takes time. But also, being in sin doesn't mean you are sinning. Jesus spent his time with "sinners" but I can't say he sinned. Those that met and believed in Him, benefited from their sin. Better yet had "Sins with benefits". Initially it seems off to put in words but Stephen's sermon really made that title make sense. At least to me. In the end our relationship to God is much greater than semantics. God love you and bless you.

Saw it differently sometimes you have to quit a relationship if sin is involved but God can use that sin to years later position you to be used greatly by him.
I am grown enough in God, tempted to quit makes me stronger. I'm always the first horse out the stall but never make it to the finish line. I quit relationship just like you preached. I quit start over quit start over for the first time I'm reading Deuteronomy. God will lead me to the promised land. Listen more? Understand. Good from evil. I will not quit.

Amen. I'm always so afraid of not being sober sooo muchh!! That i honestly quit trying to get sober. But now my trust is in the lord. And he is my strength. If I did it on my own. Impossible. But with Jesus. Possibly. Everything.
Behavior modification relies on you to trust your works instead of relying on God's grace. God's grace (and love) is what modifies our behavior eventually (in some areas quicker than others).
As I said above I'm watching this again & I had to come back & tell you I appreciate your transparency soooo much!!! Saying sin is pleasurable now that takes soooo much guts & you should know I believe you really help people by being so human & honest with us. " there are 100 people agreeing & thankinh you for your honesty whether they voice it or not here, I mean if sin't pleasurable where is the temptation? I can listen to the sermons over and over. Sometimes after a day of daily foolishness in this world, I put on one of the sermons at night on my laptop and he puts me to sleep. That is not a bad thing. My point is, that his sermons are deep and very calming and resting and relieves my mind and spirit and the last thing I hear at night is the Word of God and not confusion and confusion.
