Best performance on a night with little moonlight If there is no moonlight at all, you should use a high-intensity IR light.

I use an aurora pro as main camera on investigations now coming from a go pro 10 black with a light mod it’s a good camera for the price I find and I’m just now getting a helmet setup mainly for hands free recording

I have a pair of sionyx Aurora sports. I started with one for the price I got the 2nd to try out binos. I initially started out with a mod armory D14 integrated component Mount. It is made for PVS14 but you can use it with these with 2 right side clips, but it was never designed for the sionyx. I have an awesome PVS 14 L3 white phos. I do still keep these, they are great for training and using as binos. Most cities have enough light pollution these work great. The sionyx Aurora sport is what got me started into night vision. This is the best initial device to start in with night vision on a budget due to the fact you can see if green gives you a headache, Or the white is more favorable to you. Also the color night mode just reminds me of stranger things and it is really cool walking around with them on. Using a mono or binos takes time due to the fact of your visual limitation.

A lot of times but mostly now we use first person recorders or adapter hooked up to the night vision

So it’s basically gen 1 but with frame rate and other image distortions and delays real gen 1 doesn’t have
@Ashley-1917
@Ashley-1917 3 года назад
Imo its more like gen 0 but with less distortion.

Yeah if you need IR spot lights and flood lights for your digital “night vision” system to work. Then it would be cheaper and you would get better performance out of genuine first gen NV. I don’t get why dudes will drop a grand on an aurora and then go through the trouble of trying to helmet mount it. When they could have spent $300-400 on a gen 1 monocular they would need similar auxiliary IR light to make useful. All with no frame rate or electronic delays, which are a major problem with the aurora in and of themselves

Being able to record is the Auroras biggest attraction. It does have severe limits. But I do believe it will get ALOT better in the very near future.

@@OpieInTheSmokies Agreed. I had some trouble selling mine to nv guys just as a camera because they all heard the deceptive marketing of sionyx that it was an nvd. Its really nice as a night camera, but thats it.

@@OpieInTheSmokies oh I totally get it from youtuber’s who need to record night vision shooting video’s for their channels. I’d buy one too if I made video’s of night shooting. But for the young guys with little money who are trying to shoot at night for cheap as a personal project rather than content creation. They’d be significantly better off with actual first gen NV. There’s a big difference between seeing something on your phone, and seeing that same thing in “real time” while you’re trying to line up a dot on a target. If there’s even just a little lag between what you’re doing and what you’re seeing, you’re gonna be constantly throwing the OODA loop process into a tailspin. Gen 1, even with how insensitive it is. Is still pretty good with a bunch of extra IR light and allows you see in real time. For a lot less than an aurora.

I have a sionyx pro and in black and white scale at Max resolution and 60 frames you can see in low light a little bit better than with your naked eye . And at 7.5 frames and 320 pix to lower static it can see in near pitch darkness without illumination . Like you can't see your hand in front of your face and through the cam you can see it. Just barely but u can see it. Now ... Note that not even gen 3 analog pvs14 can see in pitch darkness... No experience with them so I believe what they say that it's better... But the sionyx definitely works and by the way with illumination it actually See's deeper into the infrared spectrum up to 1100 nanometer. If only there were readily available illuminators passed 1000 nanometer... The market is flooded with 850nm and 940nm... : /
