I love this theatrical dreamlike surrealism they created. It's so untainted by anyone else messing around with it. They're an escape from stark bland boredom. I need this weirdness. I found their songs only this December while browsing through CD's at a local shop. Classic way to discover them right? Around midnight I played this while driving. Oh my goodness me!!! Upon pressing play, I was like caught between two worlds. Magnificent. They're music psychedelia. Yes, magical and mysterious alluring strangeness. Curiosity!
Budgie lights up a smoke on camera.... Aaah those were the days. Ive met both of them. VERY nice people. The interviewer was great. He asked great questions.
I love the comment here at 4:05: "The magic that we want is not textbook magic. I mean we use terms like "Voodoo" or "Spellbound," but they're not to be taken literally. The best magic is when something good happens and you don't plan, it's not in your control. To an extent you are in control, but to be totally in control of everything, then that'd be boring. Life would be boring if nothing went (then she clicks her fingers), you know, something magic's happened. But it's not (mimics a person casting a spell by waving her hands). It's a feeling."
This music stays in my mind after one listen, for at least a week, where I have to listen every day.I wasn't into them that much back then, but now I'm rediscovering them Budgie is a gorgeous man!!!
Wish Steve was there with them. I hope Budgie's new project with Lol goes far and brings good things. John McGeoch R.I.P... *_SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES RULE..._*
@@scarletblast It's a new music project between Lol and Budgie (not Siouxsie) called LXB (originally, it also included Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus/Tones On Tail/Love & Rockets). Lol and Budgie might also be producing a new podcast as well...
@@jamiehanley3419 Me too! Loved the season 1 episodes and am loving the new 2nd season episodes. They're really inspiring to me as I get ready to re-record some of my own music.
TravisBickle1963 - It may be. But mine was on Wells St, 1/2 block north of North Ave but I think yuppies owned that bldg. I didn't live in IL when they reopened on S. Ashland area now (?). I loved the black brick walls of the Exit Lounge and the graveyard scene on it with the names of other bars on the tombstones (very funny) like Neo^s, 950/Lucky Number, O^Bannion^s (named after a mobster Capone had killed) which was on S. Clark St close to downtown? THAT was my very 1st ckub when that song 1st came out ^Dancing With Myself^ and my roomie & I were buzzing on blotter! Wild days, man!
TravisBickle1963 - I wish you luck! I was probably working downtown so missed SoM! As I lived there from 1981-85. Before moving to the desert of CA. I miss that city. Give the Lake by LSD a pat for me, aye? Do you go to the Exit Club now?
Siouxsie is so right when being asked what Slowdive is about. Great lyrics don't need to be interpreted, that takes something away. It's up to the listener to decipher what they mean!
Actually, she quit smoking in 1987, then, picked it back up around 1993 or so. Then, when she quit in 2003, she found out that she's part of a rare percentage of people whose body chemistries can't function correctly w/out nicotine in their system. So, since 2005 or so, she's had to resort to chewing tobacco gum and wearing nicotine patches, and probably vaping, to avoid relapsing in to the bronchitis, asthma, and sinus infections she started having in the early 2000s, due to quitting smoking. She unknowingly prophesied this state with her 1978 song, "Nicotine Stain".
Really? Wow, I guess they did re-prints. Have you ever seen the Nocturne promo shirt? Or the Stargazer shirt? They both have glitter attached to the cotton in addition to the silkscreen ink. Very nice quality.
Of course....anything that Siouxsie officially puts her name on is not going to be poor quality. Right now though all I can think about is the trailer I saw during Super Bowl 50 for the sequel to Cloverfield. LOL
@@chelseapoet3664 I hear you. Old posters are not so hard to find, but original t-shirts are. I had a Stargazer shirt that was really nice but someone stole it. Every now & then you see or hear a reference to Siouxsie in a movie or TV show. One of the most recent examples I can think of is "IT: Chapter One" where Beverly has a Siouxsie poster in her bedroom.
I once heard it said to ward against those who practice witchcraft, sorcery, and black, grey or even white magic because their targets usually end up suffering from some kind of multiple personality disorder.
Really is. She wasn't the greatest singer to begin with from a technical standpoint, but she could at least sing in key and was incredibly interesting/mesmerizing. Saw the Banshees shows in 2007, and while I loved her performance in every other way, her voice was just horrible. Most of the songs not even close to being in key.
@@kerchmusic7201 She probably didn't rehearse enough (especially considering she had been smoking) before the start of each of those shows you mention.
