I just cannot imagine what courage they have at that time they climbed. Compared to modern climbers which have hi tech equipments when you have guides, fix ropes etc. Specially 1924 with Mallory and Irvine its like going to the moon.

Yup. We’ll probably never know if George Mallory and Andrew Irvine summited, or *exactly* how they died. Regardless, they earned their place among the greatest mountaineers of all time.

@@amosonyoutube with respect, there's no reason why Mallory and Irvine couldn't have summited. 1). Weather was relatively warm (for Everest), 2). Their clothing and boots were of comparable (or lighter) than modern clothing and boots. 3). They had oxygen (and Irvine was familiar and capable of fixing it) 4). Mallory was an experienced climber. 5). Mallory was in the two previous expeditions. 6). Matterhorn had been climbed in 1865 so 2nd step wasn't impossible due to gear limitations. 6). The second step has been climbed by two different climbers on two different routes on the same day without the ladder, a man of Mallory's experience would have been able to climb the second step (if the rock and snow conditions were favourable) as it wasn't the difficulty of climbing it, it was the time it would take and the problems associated with high altitude

@AnyoneCanSee
@AnyoneCanSee 2 года назад
The word Sherpa became interchangeable with mountain guide at this time. In fact, most people didn't even realise it was the name of an ethnic group. Obviously, the word isn't used like that anymore. So when they say "his Sherpa" they mean his mountain guide. Tensing was a professional porter/mountain guide and met Hilary on another expedition and he hired him to work on this expedition. They equal partners as climbers and Hilary treated him as such but it is a fact that he was hired just like Sherpas on Everest today.

With all due respect Sir Edmond Hillary has always given equal credit and respect to Tensing Norgay. Additionally he has always referred to him as his Co Climer!!!!

Tenzing was Hillary’s equal- jealousy’s competitive ness the 1st to Everest’s Summit! Tenzing craved recognition,he was a climber and knew by all means.. A Sherpa he acted the part -Hillary must have known this man was his equal, and was as much too blame. Sadly both men paid the ferryman. E Hillary lost his wife and daughter! Tenzing- surrounded by fast friends and guilt ridden found solace in his addiction. His wife snd family suffered as he isolated himself and withdrew from true friends snd family.
