Welcome to my channel! Here you’ll find folklore from across the British Isles. In this video I look at one of my favourite tales... and one of my favourite places. Dunstanburgh Castle is a beautiful ruin on the Northumberland coast, but unquiet spirits are found within. A Knight by the name of Sir Guy seeks shelter here one night, only to be faced with the hardest question of his life...

I love castles, because beyond those moss-covered stones lies a history that may have been lost in time, or newly discovered. Such a fascinating species we are! Thank you, Duke, excellent work! :)

Great video! I wish works like this got as much attention as the clickbait nonsense that popularly passes as 'folklore' content.

Brilliant footage and my favourite legend too. I have been here several times after midnight and on one occasion i heard an old woman cackle as i was going up the stairs in the pitch black. It took me by surprise as i had not heard of such a spirit but when i got home and googled it, there used to be an old woman who lived in the ruins of the castle, probably the room that still has a locked door on it now.

Excellent! So many great tales from the lands between the Tweed and the Tees sadly rarely spoke of! Wonderful to see them kept alive and told to folk, such as myself, who would otherwise be unaware of them.

The word 'hallucination' is a disingenuous one in respect of ghosts, in that an hallucination occurs within a person's head, but there's nothing to say that a spectral phenomenon does not itsself manifest in this way, so that seeing a phantom is both a genuine experience AND an hallucination, if that makes sense.. Anyhoo, these films are great.. Thanks so much for all the great content! 🌟👍

Another great tale! I perceive some fairy tail elements within this one. It reminded me of a line from the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The crystal coffin with a spellbound maiden had a taste of Snow White, and the horn blow reminded me of the bell being rung in C.S. Lewis' The Magician's Nephew. Very interesting to someone who studies fairy tales and children's lit.

The story is almost similar to the story of Canobie Dick. Difference being that instead of being a knight he was a horse trader. The stranger also instead promised that he would be king, but he blew the horn before drawing the sword and was thrown out by a mighty gust of wind.

I would refuse both. Because a sword is going to cause conflict and sorcery can be used in so many ways it is not safe either. Neither of them had done the people in there much good had they? I might have asked for his wand thing instead.

@@TheJollyReiver Who inspired you to do RU-vid videos ? Do you find folklore from countries besides the UK and Ireland ? When you're in the Hebrides will you be doing anything on the mysterious death of Netta Fornario ? Have you ever been to Banff on the northeast coast of Scotland ? If you ever go to Banff you might want to check out Inchdrewer castle said to be haunted by the 3rd Lord of Banff and a large white dog .
