Former boxer Sir Henry Cooper returns to the house where he grew up, 120 Farmstead Road, in Catford in South East London. This charming film was made in 2007 and repeated by BBC's "The One Show" in tribute shortly after Sir Henry died in 2011. It encapsulates the down-to-earth humanity which made "Our 'Enery" a national treasure.

When I was 16 and worked in R.Dun & Sons in Bexleyheath, in 1978, George Cooper came in to buy something. He looked EXACTLY like our 'Enery !!! Love it ! X - Although my uncle Sid - who used to train the Olympic boxing team, said he had a few words with Henry about something. LOL! I'll leave it there. Henry, of course, is our pride and joy !!!! X :-)

I have a signed photo of Henry Cooper that he sent to me years ago👍🥊 On my Dad and Uncle's 65th birthday back in 2001,they both received a signed photo with a Happy 65th on it because I asked him to send them👏 In 2005,my Dad and Uncle met Henry Cooper and his brother George at a charity night organised by the Water Rats. Their cousin was a friend of Henry Cooper and they also met Billy Walker, who fought Cooper in 1967 and Barry McGuigan.

Henry's recollections are from a time long ago. I can empathise with a lot of what he spoke of. The conditions of those days needed to be experienced. I was born in'45'. My early childhood was in Catford in Sangley Rd. Bellingham was where you went swimming in the open-air pool.

We called him a Bellingham boy because it is Bellingham this video was made not bloody Catford. The good thing about the estate is that it was a housing estate, not a tall building estate.

I was raised about two miles from here but we used to refer to Henry as a Bellingham boy rather than Catford. Other than "Our 'enry" it's difficult to say anything good about the area.

I'd be interested to know if this was the first time he had revisited the house and the immediate area since moving out.

He does mention his father. The fact that he speaks more of his mother would probably be that for most of the time Henry lived there as a young boy, his father was away serving in WW2

I think its because his dad was a drinker use to beat him and his brother every time he got drunk, Henry mentions it in an interview taken in 2004 at the BBC with Dickie Davis.
