I saw Sir Ivor win the DC International at Laurel when I was a schoolboy. That race was such a big deal back then as so few horses were venturing out of their respective countries.
Before lasix ruined the sport, this was one of the best sire-of-turf-sires ever. Cashed a lot of first-timers on the grass at good odds who had this horse in their pedigree.
I always grew up believing that Piggott was stone-faced and never smiled. However, after looking at all of the videos now available on RU-vid I see that is not the case. When it comes to expressing Joy, he is no Dettori, but Piggott smiles often enough.
It’s great to see this. I hope Sandy Barclay is doing well. What a jockey he promised to be back then. I often thought he should have stayed in the UK rather than going to France but still, he was a hugely talented rider. Also, Lester’s ride on Ribero in the Leger was masterful. The horse had an abscess I believe and he had to nurse the horse home.
@@robertdelacy3434 He never really got the quality of horses as Vincent did, especially when he parted company with Daniel Wildenstein and showing his loyalty to Pat Edery.
@@robertdelacy3434 That's gratitude for you! Loyalty hasn't always been a sports persons strongest character, but I suppose you can't blame a person for having ambitions and waning to be on top of their chosen profession.
