Legendary Formula One racing driver Sir Jackie Stewart OBE was a top international clay pigeon champion before he took up motor racing. So when he created the Sir Jackie Stewart Challenge, to celebrate his life and raise funds for the charity Race Against Dementia, he insisted on including a shooting competition. The event was held at Thirlestane Castle in the Scottish Borders on Friday 17 June 2022, with the motoring festival following on the Saturday and Sunday.
We talk to Sir Jackie about his life, his love of shooting, and why he switched to motor racing when his clay shooting career was going so well. Plus we meet a man who kept two boxes of Eley Trap shells in his loft since the age of 16, in the hope that one day he would meet Sir Jackie and get them signed.
And top DTL shooter Paul Chaplow explains the scoring system, why he finds the discipline so addictive - and gives a few expert tips on how to shoot it.
