If you like, think of these times as Man's Pre Star Trek Moment -- complete with our own Q. Mankind either ends war now, thus paving the way for a marvelous, worldwide civilization, or men are forever forbidden from the stars -- perhaps, even our souls, bound to Earth. Q, just a Q-wizical as ever, says, "I don't believe men have souls. If they do, it's barely discernible. This time, Jean-Luc, it's not up to you and your crew to save the day. It's up to them!"

I would just love to have another Star Trek series that's calm and clever, instead of non stop action with a dark tone. Star Trek, to me, was always a peace of mind show, not a kung-fu movie. Would be great, if someone would make that happen, maybe on a lower budget.

"The Orville". Just try it. At first it feels like a Star Trek parody but the over the top superficial bits got toned down a couple of episodes in and then it just feels like mostly lighthearted Trek. Seth MacFarlane is a die hard Star Trek fan and a lot of the original cast, writers and producers are involved too. I like it.

@@vic5015 I'm not sure that any evidence is required, per se. Patrick Stewart himself has said on many occasions that, _in his own opinion,_ he was something of an asshole during the early days of TNG (I'm paraphrasing of course), rubbed several people up the wrong way and took longer than perhaps he ought to (again, his opinion) to wind his neck in, put his ego to one side and show some basic manners. In short, he used to be a dick head. Thankfully, he learned his lesson many years ago. The people who work with him these days get on with him like a house on fire, and I believe he's been something of a mentor to some of the younger actors.

That is what make our grandparent's generation the greatest generation ever. Most people from our grand parent's generation are really humble, despite they are nearly all really wise, they still remain extremely humble. Our parent's generation on the other hand is insanely arrogant and that is why they screw up. Despite there is a saying "Age come with wisdom" the thing is that "Age doesn't guarantee wisdom and doesn't provide you with infinite wisdom" this is because (1) Despite they say practice make perfect, some people can perfect a task after only practice 3 times, other practice 10 times and still don't get it. (2) It is like when you play a computer game, everytime you complete a quest, you get experience point, but you can't get unlimited experience point, the same with age, live for 40 years, 50 years or 60 years, only mean 40, 50 or 60 experience point not unlimited experience point (3)there are certain thing you can only learn via practice and experience, but there are other thing only can be learn by training, education or research. Our grand parent's generation understand this, but our parents generation doesn't understand it. A lot of people from our parent's generation they think they got unlimited experience point and think they are experts on topic they know nothing about (because those are things they can't know via practice or experience but require training, education or research and they got no training, education or research on the topic) for example, when George Bush Junior side line all experts on the Middle East and replace them with a bunch of head nodding yes man, when himself also know nothing about the middle east. As a result, our grand parent's generation are all really wise, because for their whole life, they are always learning new skills and then practicing what they learn and humble to ask for advice when they come across topic they know nothing about and by doing so, they gain new skill sets and absorb what other people learn through their experience to become their own, as a result, by the time they reach old age, they are all insanely wise. Our parents generation all they do is go around screaming "I ain't 40 years old for shit!" "I ain't 50 years old for shit!" "I ain't 60 years old for shit!" so, when they come across thing regarding skill set they don't have or require more experience point then they got, they are not able to resolve it and yet, they think they got the wisdom to deal with it and won't ask for advice from people that actually know what they are doing, so they screw up and they won't absorb skill set and experience point of their adviser (I mean even if you need 100 experience point, 2 people with 50 experience point working together that is still 100 experience point) and when our parent's generation screw up, they won't learn from their mistake, because they think it must be everybody else's fault, due to their believe of "I ain't 50 years old for shit! So, it can't be my fault!" When our grand parent's generation screw up, they reflect on their mistake, so they don't make the same mistake the next time, hence, they get even more experience point. As a result, when our grandparent's generation is e.g. 50 years old, they got 70 experience and 10 skill set, our parent's generation at 50, only got 30 experience points and 5 skill set. Yet, they think they got infinite wisdom, no wonder they screw up. Patrick Steward is also the executive producer of this show, in recent years they try make a few new star trek series, but the series seem to be hitting a writer block and can't make anything good, Patrick Steward know just what to do, in fact you can see from clips of ep 1 already something. Instead of keep on imitating the old star trek and done something that be done to death, what he do is create a new story line, within the star trek universe that is exciting for the audience and something modern audience can relate to.

@@vic5015 They never talk about how their "utopic" society works. EVER. They just say it does. -What do people do all day? If there is no money, and everything is free, why are there people working shifts at bars? Why is there an academy with selection, if everyone is equal? -Why would anyone (besides a power-hungry psychopath) decide to dedicate years and years of his life to become an admiral, when the only payoff is the position itself, and all the troubles and stress that come with it? You could live a happy life at home, with all your needs and desires met (unless you desire POWER, now that is a recipe for disaster). -Everyone can have everything. Then, who gets to have a boat on the lake? Everyone? Then there is no more lake. The most important people? So not everyone is equal? You just substitute money with another metric, basically doing the same thing but with a different name? -If there is no private propriety, how does Picard have his vineyard? How did it become HIS vineyard? Dude, not even in a magical fantasy land where technology makes material needs free, socialism manages to make sense. And that is what they were (and are): a bunch of crazed cultists with no sense of reality or humanity recklessly pushing disastrous ideas. To seal the deal, he wrote in his story a GOD that gave the thumbs up to the federation "values" ( Q ). Basically like scientology. Fun fact: it was actually Ian McKellen, who back in 1987 (while Patrick Stewart was auditioning for Picard, ran an acting workshop in LA, and the two would meet for a drink once a week) after hearing what Patrick was auditioning for, advised him not to take the part, because "it's science fiction", and it would ruin his acting career. Five years prior to that, Stewart played in the De Laurentiis production of The Dune, and McKellen told Stewart, it had been a career "suicide" for a serious actor, as Stewart. Fast forward a decade later, they were doing science fiction together.

Dogs have not only intelligence but strong personalities. A dog isn't a thing you get, an ornament or a possession. When you get a dog you are entering a relationship. It is important, critical, that You get training. It is best to get an independent trainer rather than a pet store "obedience class." The goal is to teach you how to "speak dog," relate to dogs in a way they can understand. Yes, you are the boss. They respect that as long as you are consistent. I see so many dogs dragging owners around by the leash and ultimately confined in back yards barking. At the end, Patrick Stewart is probably the best acquisition in long time for the universe of Star Trek since the Shattner´s first team in the 60s. His playing for the role of Captain Picard set a new standard for the kind of personality and a smarter perspective required for deeper plots that Next Generation integrated to the show. The thems that Next Generation put on the table were definitely more complex , involving values, analisys, and more intelligent speechs than pure action. The great merit of the character of Captain Picard is to fulfill the requirements for both more complex situations and lead with energy the action scenes with a lot of more technical resources than in the years before, but avoiding to let the show depending just on those visual tricks, and Stewart was the right actor for that.

Frakes should be in charge of Star Trek, not any of the people making it now.

Frakes is a solid and competent television director, but that doesn't make him a capable showrunner, or a solid and competent cinema director.

3:10 that line reading is iconic thought ... if he misspoke, it's the best misspoken phrase in Trek history.

Unknown Shakespearian actor that was in Dune and Excalibur just to mention two things, since playing a firefighter in Coronation Street is a bit obscure for anyone but us Brits.
