It’s been an eventful week in the news with the unexpected death of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash that also took seven other lives - including that of the Iranian Foreign Minister - near the country’s border with Azerbaijan on Sunday, the 19th of May.
We explore the major consequences that is having on Iran’s political structure and succession plans for the next Supreme Leader, as 63-year-old President Raisi was the main candidate slated to succeed 85-year-old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Joining Riz Khan to give their thoughts is the former British Ambassador to Iran, Sir Richard Dalton.

You’re badly delusional if you think the pilots would have taken off in bad weather or in faulty choppers.

I am a former Iranian diplomat. Why is a British diplomat being asked if he thinks the helicopter crash was 'suspicious'? Is it not a fact that UK was part of tentacles reaching into many countries for resources, influence, and yes even 'to keep them colonized?' (Words of a UK ambassador to Iran at a reception in Iran..)

How does Iran afford rockets, missiles etc ( many 100 towards Israel) b u t blame sanktions that the aircrafts are not upgraded? There seems like money is not the problem in some areas...priorities are maybe "wrong"?

Title: Chilling in the Mountains [The scene opens with a group of People's Army of Iran human rights activists gathered around a bonfire on the mountains. They are singing "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain" in unison, laughter filling the air.] Activist 1: (singing) She'll be coming 'round the mountain when she comes! Activist 2: (joining in) She'll be coming 'round the mountain when she comes! [In the distance, the sound of an old banger, a 40-year-old helicopter, can be heard. It's blaring music, ironically The Clash's "Rock the Casbah."] Imam Hackit: (furrowing his brows) What in the name of propriety is that racket? [Imam Hackit pulls out his laptop and quickly tunes into the old security system of the helicopter. With his expertise, he begins to work his magic.] Imam Hackit: (typing furiously) Let's see what mischief is afoot here. [As Imam Hackit continues to manipulate the security system, the music abruptly stops, and the sound of a helicopter engine sputtering fills the air. The old banger crashes in the distance.] Imam Hackit: (raising his hands) Rock the air, butcher and the devil's advocates! Let us move forward in propriety and in peace, in the name of God. [The activists nod in agreement, their faces illuminated by the flickering flames of the bonfire. They resume their singing, the night air filled with a sense of camaraderie and purpose.]

Look at his funeral and see millions of people. He died for the right cause. Your numbers are not factual and Raisi was deputy prosecutor at the time of 67 mass death sentences. Raisi was not on the deciding committee at that time. He was against the mass killing of political prisoners

I'm Iranian & disagree with this Sir British imperialist view about the Iranian President. The majority of Iranians would miss Raisi, look at Iranians were mourning across Iran & million patriots Iranian were in the streets. Obviously, the British ass has been kicked by Iranian authority & the British establishment is wounded & angry with Iranian authority. I personally, don't take this Sir British imperialist opinions seriously. Rouhani is not a trustworthy person because he is the British agent 👿👿. Long live 🇮🇷❤️🇮🇷. God bless President Raisi & foreign minister Amirabdulahian. Rest in peace & God bless their souls 💔💔.

How many people were hung from cranes in the 1980, when mass state- sanctioned killed thousands of Iranians…and again in 2022-2023 when 834 people were executed. And you think he was loved?
