In 89 I worked in a bar in Manhattan and I was in charge of closing it and hand to new owners. I was doing inventory when someone eyed inside , it was Rod. Hard to believe, he had a qucik drink and I had a few laughs. What a great guy, I am sure he will not remember but for me it's a memory of a lifetime.

When I was 13 in 1977 I snuck out with my bestie who was 12 and we took a bus to Toronto from KW to see my fav singer!! We lived in an apartment with only one entrance door - idk how I managed not to get caught coming back in in the middle of the night. I was so nervous but it was worth it! So Rod claims he is always on time... well in the summer of 1975, at Anaheim Stadium the show was pre-Rumors Fleetwood Mac, Login and Messina, and Rod Stewart. Fleetwood Mac came on about 1 pm, did their set, about 2:30 Logins and Messina did their bit, and the stage was cleared. The expectation was the stage would immediately be set up for Rod. Now... I was in general admission about 50 feet from the stage set up over the outfield wall in center field. It was ninety-five degrees and there was no where to get a drink without giving up your space close to the stage. Rod's gear was held up by a train, arrived at about 6 pm and he hit the stage about 6:45pm. He apologized and played and extra long set.

That's true for me, more than any others in 1978/1979. He displaced Elton John. True that blondes were having more, all of the sexual "fun" back then. The wickedest ones trying make me live the "Easy A" situation, because I had plenty of platonic male friends. Like the film. The ones in college, we definitely had our issues with the same way as in high school, but we all got along much better, ran around in the same clique. Just didn't accept any hipocrisy self righteousness judgements from that type, especially when we started regularly dating. Why should we, we were the later bloomers. Didn't make any sense. It was some kind of envy and egomaniac narcissism combined, as if all guys belonged to them. Ridiculous. Vanity mirror. As if who's the most physically beautiful of all? The anorexic, who barely ate, because it didn't even matter if we were not fat, but if gained weight, oh feeding the zombies vanity mirror. Psychologically insane trying to mentally entrap others in their game.

Saw Rod in concert in 1981 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada...one of his trademarks was to kick a few soccer balls into the crowd, which he did, and looking at him tonight on Real Time he looks like he would still be capable of kicking a ball or two into a crowd. Thanks for having him on your show Bill...great to see "Rod the Mod" in fine form!

Rod was doing that with the footballs as far back as 1976, possibly further. I saw him at the old Apollo in Glasgow that year. The show opened with a backscreen of Scotland's Kenny Dalglish sticking the ball through then England keeper Ray Clemence's legs for the winner, in a 2-1 win at Wembley. He could have kicked turds into the crowd after that, never mind footballs and they'd still have loved him.

I went to London quite a few years ago (maybe 2004?). The friends I was staying with gave me a newspaper listing what was going on there at the time. I saw that an artist I had always admired was playing that very night, at a small French restaurant/cafe. His name was Long John Baldry. I immediately went down and got a ticket. I was told that I couldn't wear the jeans I had on at the time, but thought, 'so what?'. I went and changed pants and returned for the show. There were perhaps 50 people there. All of a sudden, a couple of bouncer/body guard types walked in and cased the joint. Then, in walks Rod Stewart. Turns out, he and Long John Baldry had been buskers at the same time, back in the late 50s. He was there to support his buddy. Rod was very entertaining in his back & forth with Baldry. One of the best concerts I have ever seen, and most of it was because Stewart was maybe, what 10 feet away from me? Awesome. He didn't sing, he just made comments between songs. 50 people were there!

"Ooo La La" by Faces is one of the best songs that Rod Stewart was involved with: Poor old Granddad, I laughed at all his words I thought he was a bitter man He spoke of women's ways They'll trap you when they use you Before you even know For love is blind and you're far to kind Don't ever let it show I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger The can-can such a pretty show Will steal your heart away But backstage back on earth again The dressing rooms are grey They come on strong and it ain't too long For they make you feel a man But love is blind and you soon will find You're just a boy again When you want her lips, you get her cheek Makes you wonder where you are If you want some more then she's fast asleep Leaves you twinkling with the stars Poor young grandson there's nothing I can say You'll have to learn, just like me And that's the hardest way Ooh la la Ooh la la, la la, yeah I wish that I knew what I know now When I was younger I wish that I knew what I know now When I was stronger

Bill and Rod.. Hanging out and having a chat!! Love it!! I will be seeing you in Nevada, you’re a fabulous perfectionist, song writer, Boss, musician!! Break a leg, as they say… Quietly now while I turn the page. Act one is over without costume change. The principal would like to leave the stage. The crowd don’t understand…. Do you??

I can tell from first hand experience as Rod's vocal coach - this is exactly how he is off stage. No different. "just a bloke from London who made it big" is how he describes himself. What you may not know is that he's a model train fanatic and is always whistling if he's not singing. Truly a nice man and consummate professional.

Rod Stewart is a one of a kind rocker. He came into a private club in Georgetown in the late 70's with like six gorgeous blondes....it was a total meme....they were out and about back then, you could see them in NY, Georgetown, Chicago, Miami....he rocks...a living legend...good for Real Time for getting him on..feather in your cap.. ; - )

What a coincidence. I was just bemoaning on a Brits in America group how I'd got Rod Stewart singing "Love Changes Everything" stuck in my head after hearing it in a local market. That led to a long back and forth on the merits of Rod Stewart, and lots of people saying what a nice guy he is. His love of model railways and his incredible set that took him 25 years to build is rather endearing.

Rod Stewart doesn't sing that song, it's Climie Fisher. Yes, his voice sounds a little like Rod's but it's clearly not the same.
@JonS
@JonS 2 года назад
@@Kevember OMG! You're right! I had to Google that to check, as I didn't believe you at first. What's funny is Climie Fisher wrote it for Rod Stewart, so I guess he ended up singing it in Rod Stewart's style when he recorded it for himself. I learned something today. Thank you!

@@JonS If that's the case then you were almost right. Pretty amazing how you thought it was Rod Stewart's song and it turns out it was written for him.

I think my favorite Rod Stewart song is "Reason to Believe" followed by "You Wear It Well". I'll bet a lot of people don't know that Rod Stewart is a very accomplished model railroader. I remember reading an article about how he would construct buildings for his model railroad in his hotel suite during the day and then do his concerts at night. Another interesting Rod Stewart tidbit is that he played harmonica on Millie Small's hit "My Boy Lollipop".

I saw him in the biggest venue in Québec city , le Colisée, home of de defunct hockey team les "Nordiques de Québec". It was in the early 80's and I was in my 20's, Rod Stewart and Elton John have to be the most energetic concerts I've seen in that arena.
