Q:What camera do you use?
A: I use the Go Pro Hero 7 Black Edition primarily. Often times you will see auxillary cameras in use. Those cameras include The Go Pro Hero 6, Hero, and DJI Mavic Pro Platinum
Q: How big Is your rotator?
A: It is a 50 ton Miller Industries Vulcan 950
Q: Does the carriage slide back like Ron Pratt's?
A: No, the carriage doesn't slide back due to strict weight laws in California. The sliding carriage will make the truck to heavy in CA
Q: Why do you only have 3 winches on the rotator?
A: Comes down to weight again as stated above
Q: How many trucks Does Plaza Towing have?
A: Currently more than 30
Q: Why must the driveshaft be removed to tow a vehicle?
A: When vehicles are not running the transmission is not receiving circulating lubricant. If the driveshaft is left installed, the transmission, which is not receiving lubricant, is still spinning. This allows it to get very hot which eventually will cause major damage to the transmission. Therefore, removing the driveshaft completely eliminates the transmission from spinning. Simply leaving it in neutral is not sufficient since the transmission still spins in neutral.

Trent, you're a good teacher for Jonathan. Nice job on the winch out, Jonathan.

Great to see a driver who knew he'd gone just too far and was stuck, but not dug in very deep so it was quick and eas for you guys to pull him back onto solid ground.

It’s amazing how many details a tow operator needs to know, for example “tip loading” a hook.

I remember 5 or so years ago when you were at the truck stop just about every night to pull out stuck trucks. I think you called it the Money Pit or the Sand Pit. Easy money.

@@noahater5785 The Money Pit is what he used to call the sand lots next to the Love's Truck Stop that drivers used for overflow and then would get stuck. He used to winch trucks out of the sand almost every day. But then they put sidewalks around the lots and I guess the drivers don't try to park there anymore. This video brings back memories of it.

His first lesson of the day should be: park close, rig up, and drive out on free spool to where you want the tractor to go, so you don't have to drag a hundred pounds of cable a hundred feet. Work smarter not harder :)

Trent nice video and for training purposes giving some crucial information instead of blabla... Let your college do his job and correct him when necessary. Easy job but you mentioning how to put the endless rope on two hooks... Essential and that info also can be useful in my job, thanks.

Bad move walking under the cables while winch was engaged. Is it better to use master link and longer sling to decrease angle on pull pins?
@plazatowing
@plazatowing 3 месяца назад
General rule of thumb is to use double the length of sling as the separation between the 2 points. For example, if the two hook points are 4 feet apart, it would be recommended to use a 8 foot sling to maintain 60°. As for the MasterLink, the hook actually has a better D:d than a master link would provide. As for going under the winch, don’t really have an “argument” for that, you are right. Chances of anything happening on a low resistance pull like this is slim but definitely not impossible. Thanks for watching!
@mtu-engineer3220
@mtu-engineer3220 3 месяца назад
@@plazatowing Several benefits of large master link are not bunching up sling in hook which side loads tip of hook and hook can have abrasive burrs from working with chains. Train your new workers to include using redirect to lower d-rings on wrecker to reduce lift on recovered vehicle when pulling up close. He should have already watched all your vidios as part ofhis training LOL.

I'm lazy. I would have started closer to the casualty, hooked up and use the truck to pull the cable. That way, the cable just lays on the dirt instead of dragging through it.

Did you get the rotator back up and running and figure out what was wrong with it? From what I understand, you mentioned a few videos ago that it was down for maintenance due to an air leak somewhere.
