I tried the Eastman, it was a nice guitar and retailed for $1500. I ordered a white Sire H7 identical to the one In this video and waited 3 months for it on pre-order, paid $600. Finally received it last week and it's everything I was hoping for. In my opinion it plays just as well as the Eastman and I saved $900.
I couldn't agree with you more,i got a flawless one and id smoke this tatted up punk Indonesia not China big enough difference to me,he's butt hurt with his Eastman, f them overpriced sweat shop fantasy guitar for popping little pelts
The video Phil McKnight did on the Sire H7 a year ago was his usual thorough analysis of the guitar, including the pickups. The pickups use an AlNiCo-2 magnet, which he verified by pulling the magnet since it wasn't in the spec. He also verified they are NOT wax potted, and low winding count making for what should be a very clear pickup played clean, but not much power to drive an amp. Phil also complained about the strap-button being in the middle of the heal, which gets in the way fretting the high notes, so that's likely why Sire moved the strap button as you showed. Phil showed the neck to be very thin, so not for those of us who prefer chunky necks, although with the very rolled edges makes for a very fast neck.
Really, i did have a little look before hand to see and missed his vid. Im very surprised to learn they arent potted. They sound a little too focused as is an effect of potting pups. I wouldnt be at all surprised if i strip the covers on this and seen they were indeed potted haha. I like a big neck too and whilst this isnt huge i dont think anyone would find it really thin. The epiphones ive had from different years are all much skinnier for sure. Thanks for watching 😁
Nice review . Often RU-vid reviews conflict, I've just watched one where the guy who said playability and fret finish H7 won out but Epiphone was better finish body colour and F hole finishing better. Regarding fret finishing and set up , I'm sure you have come across 2x identical guitars and both are finished differently i.e. often it's a luck of the draw. Sound wise I can't say I noticed and audible difference between the H7 and the Eastman. Thank you for your honest review.
A beautifully honest review. I'm so curious about the J5, but no reviews as of yet. With Sire's reputation and the reviews of there other models, I'm sure the J5 will be next purchase.
You're a bad man Pauly, you got me looking at this guitar now. Amp sounded bloody awesome too. How did you find the frets and neck compare to the Eastman. Ive just played 8 Eastmans on guitar safari but came away loving the Juliet. Still on the hunt for a semi but budget will dwindle if I buy the Juliet. Are the frets on H7 medium jumbo? Great video as ever. Cheers
The fret size is super similar, Eastman use Jesscar so they polish up a little better but all in all very comparable. Its alot of guitar for the money no doubt.
One thing i cant believe on the eastman is how different it is to the guitar i filmed when first got it. Its noticeably warmer sounding and loser in feel like a different instrument for the better haha. Thanks for popping by mate!
It's probably the best sub £500 guitar ive ever had on here.... thats current feelings and being very into 335s though haha. I would doubt they are unpotted... Its one of those boutique specs these days, Easy way to find out for sure though, they dont sound unpotted...
They are potted. I know because I replaced the pickups in mine and there is quite clearly wax. Unless you see a reason for having wax but not being potted.
I’ve got one of these and no matter what other guitar I try and play, I keep coming back to this neck. It is possibly the most comfortable one for my hands I’ve ever played, including guitars much more expensive. I’d like to get a better pickup and wiring combo for it but not sure what to upgrade to.
They are really onto something, hopefully it continues! The good news is theres plenty of awesome options around now for harnesses and pickups to dial in a specific era
@@Paul-D that’s my next option. I want to find a humbucker set that I can split coils on both and not have quite such a high “tinny” voice to them. Something a bit darker and vintage sounding but have the other features too.
I think it’s a great guitar and maybe to compare it with a Epiphone would be more in this price range. Eastman or Tokay are playing in another league but for the price you pay for a sire it’s hard to beat.
For sure its absolutely not punching anywhere close to the eastman price point. And an epiphone or ibanez comparison would be more relevant price wise. My point with the Eastman thing is, the eastman is my number 1 regardless of price. Ive played guitars 3x the price of the Eastman and still prefer it so if the sire got pretty close - its a pretty big deal value wise.
I have some really great guitars like an old Gibson les Paul standard and a American strat pro II but still prefer my sire H7 after having the nut rod adjusted. Normally the truss rod is quite high on sire H7 but after having that solved by a luthier is like playing a guitar twice the price. Just my honest opinion.
Yeh i think it plays and sounds far better then its similar priced guitars. Dead impressed with it. If the black P90 one was fully hollow 330 style i wouldve ordered it straight after borrowing this haha
The one I got is as good as any thing out there and I got Gibsons boy,as far as Chineastman goes no fn way, anyone can swap pickups out if they are low on talent and need an excuse but any real player will sound great on the Sire check out Tim Pierce a real musician give ya a good idea......next level nah sonny🤣
