Someone once made a mention that Harry is supposed to become more independent - without a mentor so to speak The ones that fulfilled that rule were his parents (dead), Remus lupin (a bit + also dead), sirius black (dead), severus Snape (somewhat + also dead), Dumbledore (also dead).... Yeah.... Best decision you can make is to not mentor Harry Potter

But the thing is, it makes perfect sense that Sirius treated Harry more like a friend. Sure, he was technically 35 but when you think about it he never actually experienced adulthood. He was 22 when he was convicted and then spent 12 years completely isolated. And even when he did get out he first spend a year as a dog and then the following two not being able to leave his house. That's part of the tragedy of the character, he never got a chance to really grow up. Even if his body got older during the imprisonment, his mind didn't, it got scarred, but suffering alone doesn't make anyone grow as a person. It changes the person, yes, but does not make them wiser, not unless they have the chance to overcome the hardships. Sirius didn't. Also, he never had the time to come to terms with James and Lily's deaths, in his mind he still saw them as he remembered them since he didn't really live for all the years so when he came back and saw Harry who looked so similar to James it's logical that he unconsciously treated them in a similar manner

Harry is not just a mere child. He has seen and experienced things which even grown wizards never see even in their wildest nightmares. If experiences are what makes a person mature, Harry had plenty of that.

The books are more realistic. Sirius and Remus suffered more than anyone else. Both of them have deep issues in the books, and you can see that Sirius had depression in book 5. The others weren't so nice to Sirius either, especially Molly. I found it ridiculous that Harry wanted to spent Christmas with the Weasleys in their home instead with Sirius, who was with Kreacher completely alone in house since months. They only visit him on Christmas because of what happened to Arthur, and then they even start to insult him.

@@konanxhidan3202 the thing that bothered me most about Sirius' treatment in the books was that after he died he was criticised and even implicitly blamed for his own death... by characters who, as far as we see, never even tried to help him deal with his obvious, deep-rooted issues and shattered mental health. And it's those viewpoints that Harry is eventually swayed towards. I just find it baffling that you have this group who are supposed to be The People Who Care, and they completely let down one of their most vulnerable adult members by belittling him and disrespecting him while he's alive, acting as though it's reasonable to expect that he just pull himself up by his bootstraps and get better/more functional. And then they turn around and hold him accountable for his own murder after death. Like, I love Sirius as a tragic, broken character, but She Who Must Not Be Named did him so, so dirty in the way the narrative treated him.
