Thanks, I have been using this monopod for the past 3+ years and never figured out how to turn it into a tabletop tripod till I watched your video. I just saved myself some money as I was in the market to purchase another tabletop tripod.
Perfect! Thank you! I had a problem with mine after quite a while not using it and so i needed exactly the explanations you delivered! Abo and like for sure! You're doing great work here...no unnecessary talking, straight to topic very nice guy - so perfect! THX!!!
I have the P 424s. (The P424 model is carbon fibre) Its a beast of a monopod. The feet are amazingly stable. It is an fantastic peice of kit. So versatile. I just love it. Sirui make quality, innovative products, at really kean prices. If you are in the market for one of these, go for it, you will not regret it.
Thanks for the great review. I have been using the 224 for about a month which I think is almost the same. What I dont like is that it is a little wobbely when fully extended. Any thoughts or ideas on how to stabilize it?
That's the main disadvantage of a monopod unfortunately 🤷♂️ I'll sometimes lean it against myself/something else if I'm using it fully extended, otherwise I usually try to avoid using the bottom (thinnest) section
Hi! Thank you for the elaborate review! Really appreciate! I had a few questions- Wanted to know how easy is to pan / tilt when combined with the Manfrotto 500AH? How convenient would it be to shoot interviews? And as a beginner in using such monopods, I'm also concerned about it's sturdiness and if it can fall off with head and camera due to the wind pressure? To give you some context, my work varies from shooting documentaries to fiction and ads.
Hey Rishiraj, thanks for watching! - it's very easy to tilt & pan with the 500AH head - both the axis are very easy to control and tighten/loosen. I'd suggest keeping one hand on the monopod just for stability while moving it though. - It's a great little set-up for run & gun shooting, which is what I mostly use it for with weddings. For interviews in a set location I'd probably recommend using a tripod just for better stability. - In terms of leaving it standing, I really try not to if possible. The tripod foot is far bigger and more stable than the competition monopods, but I still wouldn't trust it that much, especially if you're outdoors on uneven ground or if it's a busy location with people moving around it. Hope this helps!
@@FamauMedia Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Quite helpful! I'm now thinking to look for a tripod as well, a relatively cheaper one. (For interviews and all the other instances where I would want to leave the setup)
Hi Famau media! Thank you for the video. The mini tripod looks so interesting, with the separateed Lock and Resistance adjustment, like in higher end fluid head. Can you confirm if it is able to perform like so? By that I mean: with the lock open and adequate resistance adjustment, the camera can smoothly pan/tilt if we use force on it, otherwise the camera would stay where we put it. English is not my native language and I'm sorry for any mistakes. Hope you or anyone in the comment can help me with this question. Thank you!
@@FamauMedia thanks for the info. I only need small movement for macro video, so I think it would work out well, 20° wiggle room is plenty enough for my need.
Will you recommend this monopod to use it with gimbal DJI RS2 and a camcorder at the top? I'm not sure if the screw will support the 6kg weight of the whole kit together. Any thoughs please?
Thank you. Only problem I have is I have lost the screw/nut combo on the support feet. Not easy to locate parts for this product. Listed as part #52 on the Sirui website, but unable to locate replacement parts. Any suggestions?
Hi Ben, Great review as I'm in the market for a monopod and fluid head. You briefly mentioned that you owned a Lumix G9. Was that camera too small for the Manfrotto NVH500AH? I ask because I have an even smaller Lumix--the G85(GX85) and was seriously looking at this same setup you have. But I'm wondering of this fluid head is overkill? I'll use your links for the monopod for sure.
Hi Maryanne - thanks for watching! I don’t believe the G9 is that much heavier than the G85, though I guess it depends which lenses you’re using with either camera. The only reason the Sony works out heavier is the lenses I’m using with it 💁♂️ I’d say this is still a great set-up for the G85 with micro4/3 lenses, while still leaving room for heavier payloads in the future. The heavier-duty fluid head should also allow for better control in tilt and panning, with more control over resistance. And thanks so much for considering my affiliate links - every little helps, especially now! 🙂
I use the same fluid head but I have an issue with panning. When I pan to the left the fluid head unscrews itself from the monopod, then I have to use the monopod pan which is too loose for me.
I tend to really tighten the head's pan axis when screwing it onto the monopod, nice tight fit and then loosen the pan axis again - I've had no issues. I agree about the monopod's pan, too loose for my liking too
