He was indeed. Thankfully it didn't take long for Siskel to realize why Jim Carrey was an appealing actor. Once Dumb and Dumber came out later that year, Siskel really softened up and liked Carrey a lot more.
These guys needed to be Politicians. With the way they agree to disagree COMPLETELY…yet STiLL maintain & proceed in dialogue. Seriously. They were obviously great Critics, but their argument about ‘The Mask’ is a perfect example of why they had a nice tv spot (every weekend for years). Who wants to listen to these guys give their full opinions on virtually every single film playing that time?? I DO!!
Yeah exactly. They taught my generation how to disagree politely while sticking to your guns. Unfortunately, siskel would always show his true colors when they were guests on late night with the cheap shot fat jokes.
Did Gene really say he'd like to see Ray Liotta "is an actor he'd like to see get more work in bigger films"?? Did he forget about when he was the lead in Goodfellas?
One film that is the highest profile role of his career and largely overshadows the rest of his career despite his performances being consistently very good. I agree at first you think what he’s saying makes no sense, but then you mull it over for a few moments and it begins to make quire a bit of sense.
Corrina Corrina was a let down thumbs 👎 i even hated yet another Pauly Shore film In the Army Now thumbs way 👎👎👎👎Clear & Present Danger was pretty good Thumbs 👍 although it's not as good as Patriot Games but it's good enough. The Mask is the best Jim Carrey film ever it was a fun laugh show. thumbs way 👍👍👍👍
@@deckard97 Connery did not "save" the film because it was riveting, intelligent, engaging thriller. Baldwin was also pitch perfect as Jack Ryan because he did not come off as a superhero, more like an average man who is intelligent enough to dissect the unfolding drama. Just stick to your marvel movies, buddy.
Siskel's comment of Jim Carrey is completely on the mark; "when he is held in check". Carrey always tries to be another Robin Williams, both Williams and Carrey always have trouble to come up for air, when they are cast to be a one-person comedy show on screen, and without the presence of a strong persona supporting character(s) to allow the audience to breath. Air Ventura (bad movie), Mask (Good Movie), The Cable Guy (bad movie), The Truman Show (good movie)...and the list goes on which is a good indication of how much and too much Jim can bring to a movie. He's a great addition that make up good movies when he has a strong supporting anchor's presence to give the audience a chance to keep up with the mile a minute comedy.
Totally unfair comparison. Carrey did several decent/good movies, especially when cast against type, e.g. every Sandler movie combined is not nearly on the same planet as Eternal Sunshine.
