I'm 29. Ive been watching these guys for almost a year now. They are the best film critics. They have a chemistry that can be like feuding brothers. I love their different insights on movies. I wish Siskel didn't die in 99' and Ebert in I think the late 2000's. I know Ebert did truly love his enemy. The reviews after were truly unwatchable. You just can't get better than Siskel and Ebert.

The USA had Siskel and Ebert. Australia had David and Margaret who were equally worth watching as they constantly disagreed in the most constructive, lovely way possible and even gave a film 1 star and 5 stars respectively at some point. At least we have RU-vid critics doing a good job of it now like MrSundayMovies

It's unreal how truly great The Godfather is. There are a lot of "first time watching" movie reaction channels and videos here on YT, and eventually they all get around to seeing it, and I've never once seen anybody react negatively to it or say after watching it that they didn't like it. It's right up there with Casablanca, and Star Wars, and Airplane!, and The Shawshank Redemption, and about a dozen or so other movies I could name. It's a perfect mix of characters, story, tone, cinematography, acting, dialogue, and directorial style. Everything comes together so well that at times you're almost convinced you're watching real-life people instead of performers in a movie. You suspend your disbelief so effortlessly you're not even aware of it, and you can't stop watching. Man, that's really something for a movie to accomplish.

I'm glad Star Wars ended as a trilogy and they didnt bring out unnecessary sequels and prequels to ruin its legacy

Unfortunately, it turned out to be the last Star Wars film that Gene saw. Roger was able to see the Prequel Trilogy, but not the Sequel Trilogy. I'm pretty much in complete agreement with Roger on the prequels (3.5 stars for Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith, 2 stars for Attack of the Clones). As for Jedi, no it's not the best, but still thoroughly thrilling and satisfying. What was best about it was Luke's confrontation with Vader and Palpatine, and could he face them without slipping to the Dark Side. I did like the Ewoks, though their battle did go on a bit long. I wonder would Roger would've thought about the Sequel Trilogy.

I think Ebert would have enjoyed The Force Awakens, but The Last Jedi and Rise Of Skywalker not so much.

GF is one of my all time favorites. And Larenz Tate was a presence on screen in many of his movies. Loved him in Menace. Hated his character. But loved him.

I'm trying to imagine what that online chat would have looked like back in 1997 - basically a lower tech version of a Reddit AMA, if that's even possible.

Watching two respected high profile critics getting to talk about The Godfather is like watching two hungry kids in the world’s largest candy store. They don’t know where to start and are just beside themselves.

The only potential contradiction with Roger’s review is the scene where the prostitute is murdered to frame Senator Patrick Geary.Rocko was lurking in the background which implied to me that he had potentially drugged the Senator and killed the woman. These guys were the best. Their tutorial on film criticism is educational.

I wonder what Siskel would've thought about Avatar. No one can actually associate the giant Navi natives with the Ewoks. And after Jedi, I wish George Lucas gave the Star Wars saga to better filmmakers like Cameron or Steven Spielberg

Weird that Gene gave the first 2 Star Wars movies 3 and a half stars and the 3rd one 4 stars and then says Jedi is his least favourite.

I like how it says “The definitive Star Wars Collection”…yep…one of about ten thousand. And yes, I agree with Siskel…those damn Ewoks…yep they didn’t ring my bell either. They represent to this day a “what the hell was George thinking?!” moment and an unwelcome blight upon one of the Original Trilogy. Up until Endor and the Ewoks, the movie was every bit as good as “The Empire Strikes Back”, not only that, but it seemed like such a tonally perfect follow-up to “The Empire Strikes Back”. Now “The Return Of The Jedi” is still an enjoyable movie, and miles ahead of most of the rest…but for that furry oops…
