Forever Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, At The Movies with their Sneak Previews. Chicago, America, and the world misses you, no matter what your past movie reviews were like (even if you were both disappointed with M’sCC). 💐💐💐💐💐💐
I like Mickey’s Christmas Carol enough that if I’m in the mood for some Scrooge, but only have enough time for a Cliffnotes version. I still wish that they went a little longer. And I’ll be sympathetic if it had a budget shortage. Disney‘s movie productions wasn’t on the mountain of dough back then that it’s on now.
Lmao the little bit at the end of the episode with Siskel saying "and I guess that's why you're on the show." I cracked tf up, especially since, ya know, Roger was right!
Can you imagine seeing Scarface in 1983 and NOT liking it...!? A bad call from Gene. Scarface was sensational. Just think of the audacious camera work and music, operatic violence and unforgettable performances.
This proves that Gene Siskel really liked both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi way more better than Scarface and Gene Siskel had a pretty lame taste for disliking Tony Montana's character in Scarface.
Wow, talk about a generational divide! Them not liking Mickey's Christmas Carol is astonishing for me but then I'm from generation x. And to criticize it for being too faithful to Dickens LOL. I love Siskel and Ebert But I definitely think like a lot of film critics in the '80s and '90s, they definitely seemed out of touch with a lot of the movies that generation x ended up resurrecting and turning into classics especially movies in genres like fantasy or comedy.
Streisand's family is Jewish.[20][21][22] Her paternal grandparents emigrated from Galicia (modern-day Poland and Ukraine) in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and her maternal grandparents from the Russian Empire, where her grandfather had been a cantor.[23][24]
Siskel is absolutely right about Scarface. Take away the 80s nostalgia, which Siskel didn't have the luxury of at the time of this review, and you end up with a very boring movie. Perhaps that was De Palma's intent i.e. to show that the glamour of mob life is not what it's cracked up to be, but Scorsese does a much better job of that in Goodfellas, which manages to show the mundane side of mob life while still being entertaining.
Nah bro, Scarface is awesome, only someone who can’t appreciate violent and long films would find it boring. Time has proven that this movie is a classic. Siskel was wrong.
Scarface is a political essay. De Palma and Oliver Stone were stating that Tony Montana was chasing the "American Dream" and he was no worse than the power brokers of the USA. This is all made quite clear in the famous "say goodnight to the bad guy" speech. Personally, I think Carlito's Way is superior in getting that message across and unlike Scarface, it transcends it's material.
@@lerm2866 It's not so much about the scenes as it's about the characters. We're not really given much of a reason to root for the protagonist until the end when he nobly refuses to kill the whistleblower's family, which is undone once he frivolously kills his best friend.
