I remember only liking Woody's film in "New York Stories." Also, "Lean on Me" is a great film. Freeman gave one of his very best performances, and while the film may be simplistic to a point, it works as an engrossing entertainment. Miss these guys!

Lean on Me my not work for modern audiences in these cynical times, but there are some truly motivational speeches…..seriously!

Woody Allen's Mom was portrayed by Mae Questel who was best known as the voices of Betty Boop and Olive Oyl.

Whoah! Nice one Ebert! Bringing back Paperhouse's last third point! I thought the same thing!! Nicely played!

Scorsese's segment towered above the other 2 parts of NY Stories. It was like Woody Allen & Coppola mailed it in with a rough draft of something and Scorsese was still giving it all the intensity he had. I don't think he's capable of making a film half heartedly.

Ebert's final words on Lean On Me pretty much summarized the reality vs the fairytale dynamic most of us who grew up with that film romanticized & glossed over. It's also a point that would be solidified decades later by a former coworker of the actual Joe Clark shortly after he passed away in 2020.

Joe Clark said about the latest generation of high-schoolers: "Calvin Kleins on their behinds and nothing on their minds!"

I'm not a big Woody Allen fan but I thought his entry in New York Stories was the best. I still quote it.

I love New York Stories, especially Woody Allen's segment. Typically they just love Martin Scorsese's segment the most, which was the least of the three, but all were really good with Woody's being superb.

Life Without Zoe wasn't necessarily bad to me but didn't fit with the other two films and would have been better as a stand-alone movie aimed for family. You'd think a New York story from Coppola would have been a lot stronger.

Liked new york stories, watched it without realizin it was an anthology tho an assumed it was a woody allen film. Liked the Scorsese segment and thought nick nolte was brilliant. Hated the Copolla segment, really pissed me off, was just pointless story about spolied annoying rich kids, so awful. Loved the woody allen segment, was my favorite, super funny, woody doin what he does best!

I did not like Farwell to the king. Why is Nick Nolte in this movie?

Farwell to the King is awful movie . Nick Nolte is miscast in this movie. IT would have been better if he was casted as leader of military soldiers.
