It's not the reviews of movies that I miss from these men. What I miss are the discussions. Even when I had seen the movie and disagreed with the review their discussions were thought provoking, enlightening, and of course enjoyable.
I didn't mind the Ghost and the Darkness, it is by no means a Great movie, but it is an entertaining popcorn movie Now the Chamber is a pretty dismal movie
Anyone under 25, take notice; two men disagree, but do not devolve into insults and rending of flesh. You can disagree with people, argue with them, and still be friends. This should be something only children need to be told, but an entire generation seems to have forgotten it.
So pleased they both liked Freeway. Its a real cult favourite of mine. Dark and twisted with some good black comedy and lively performances. You could see back then what a great actress Witherspoon was.
Aside from Tracey Flick, in the criminally-underrated 'Election', that was her best role/performance. I honestly believe that one of Hollywood's greatest failures is/was preferring to utilize Reese Witherspoon for abysmally unwatchable rom-coms, as opposed to dark comedies.
I love Ghost in the Darkness. I don't remember the bird scene that Roger is talking about but that actually does sound stupid, though some stupid things in that film happened in real life. I hate when someone about to shoot a gun gets hit by a random bird.
Gaz Jones No doubt, I never watch their reviews before seeing the movie... Always right after I watch the movie I go to see what they thought of it. Wish they lived full lives cause there’s a gang of movies I’d love to have their opinion on.
I just watched the Long Kiss Goodnight yesterday and forgot how good it is. Its slightly more intelligent than all the other dumb action movies I grew up with from the late 80's to the mid 90's (and there were tons of them) and I dont think it was appreciated at the time. They actually made a proper action star out of a female and it wasn't very common back then. The film didn't do well because Cutthroat Island bombed horribly and gave a bad reputation to Renny Harlin and Geena Davis.
What? People outrun explosion fireball all the time, also people do escape from a falling platform by running in the opposite direction then jump, just ask Vin Diesel.
I'm surprised Siskel liked Long Kiss Goodnight too...mainly because it seemed he was ALWAYS opposed to movies that featured children in danger. Maybe he was loosening up in the mid-90s?
Oddly enough I was reading a travelogue years ago that mention the real lions that were referred to a The Ghost & The Darkness. But many still thought it was just another myth created by a larger than life character. Some surmised the Commander McBragg cartoon shorts may have been in part based on the man. Commander McBragg appeared on the animated series Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales. I wish I could recall the book that talked about this.

Interesting. One of the few times Ebert was actually on the wrong side of history regarding Cutthroat Island (universally agreed among the worst movies ever made). Its usually is the other way around.
The Chamber was brutally bad thumbs way 👎 1 star out of 4 The Ghost & The Darkness i give it thumbs 👍 3 stars out of 4 & i agree with Gene Val Kilmer was solid in his role. The Long Kiss Goodnight i give it Thumbs 👍 3 stars out of 4 i enjoyed Geena Davis & Samuel L. Jackson's performance. I give Freeway a Thumbs 👍 3 & a half stars out of 4 i was surprised with Reese Witherspoon's strong performance.
Bo Jackson was in The Chamber? I guess Bo doesn't know everything, especially about being in good movies. 😮Ebert liked Cutthroat Island more than Long Kiss Goodnight? Wow.
I don't think Gene Hackman is very convincing in this role.he played the character more like the way a New York leftist actor pecieves and interprets a southerner. Thumbs down for the chamber -patronizing film to say the least......
