Gene was spot on about Roger having some kind of a guilt trip when it came to spoofing contemporary movies about black people. Good for him. This was my favorite weekly show for a long time. I would tape (yes, tape) it every week. I liked both of them a lot.
Imagine having The Terminator and The Killing Fields released the same weekend, what an amazing time to be a movie goer. Nowadays it would be a bunch of legacy sequels and comic book movies. Ugh.
I agree way more with gene. I am a champion for women film makers. But not Katherine bigelow. For the sake of time she did a lot a of bad films before winning an oscar.
Just finished rewatching Generations. I am forced to agree with Roger in that there’s too much fan service. And Data’s emotion chip was too much of a running gag. It got a lot of laughs in the theatrical run but I find it rather annoying now. I still quite the Soren character as well as the idea of the nexus. What was that supposed to represent-a place where time doesn’t exist and there’s no pain- is it heaven, or some kind of between lives dream state?? Overall, the movie is not quite as good as I remember but I still think it’s better than some give it credit for. Perhaps some of the cheap fan service and silly stuff could be cut, and just maybe you’d be left with a great episode.
1986 was the year Siskel & Ebert started working for Disney. There was concern at the time about conflict of interest. That doesn't mean that their comments on "Lady and the Tramp" aren't sincere. But, if they hadn't been working for Disney, they might not even have commented at all on a re-release of a film that was over 30 years old at the time.
For unknown reasons Cosby always made excellent television and rotten film. If you ever want to know about the guy go dig up that documentary "We Need to Talk About Cosby".
The Secret Of My Success was and still is one of my favorite movies from the 80s. I like Over The Top too. Plus the soundtrack to both movies had great songs. Beverly Hills Cop II was a good movie too but it wasn't as great as the first movie.
Happy Gilmore is one of the few Adam Sandler movies I like. I think the fact his bad behavior is called out in the movie and he actually has character growth... along with actually being funny.
I saw the People Under the Stairs in the theater as a 17-year-old and hated it. I might have to give it another shot after hearing Gene’s recommendation.
Happy Gilmore, Cable Guy? Worst movies of the year? Y’all need to calm down, not everything has to be some crime drama, serious, Oscar bait bag of pretentiousness. Sometimes you just need to relax and laugh at something. I guess you should expect it from two guys judging humor they are 2 generations removed from.
In 1998 Siskel grins like a predator as he relates the quote "young girls know what they are doing". So beyond gross. I can't believe I survived the 80's and 90's. It wasn't unscathed.
The most serious discussion about a racial comedy by 2 white guys 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I'd say someone should do a parody of this butJon Lovitz already did in The Critic
Gene at 10:30: "Next thing you know they're going to make a movie about two guys who trade wallets and then trade identities." That actually is very close to the plot of 1990's "Taking Care of Business" with Jim Belushi and Charles Grodin!
Even I believe Eye For an Eye is not that bad even if Siskel & Ebert dislike the movie. They never understood this movie must help all women protect their kids even in self defense.
I was in highschool in 1993 i was in the 10th grade lol the movies were better then i saw both that year Wayne's World two and Schindler's List. Thanks for sharing this, the sound need to be better. Lol
Shows the huge difference between elitists and regular people. “Jingle all the Way” is one of America’s greatest loved family Christmas movies of all time.
