A wonderful tribute to a little girl's love & determination. And one sees Sissel's heart here as she struggles with a phrase, "...everyone's heart is important...."
I have read that this was a quote from the famous children's refuge, Boys Town, founded by Father Flanagan. He was supposed to have been told this by one of the orphan boys whom he saw carrying a smaller boy on his back. 🙏🏼
The song was written by Bob Russell with the music by Bobby Scott. Russell was dying of lymphoma and would pass away the next year. So the song probably had personal meaning to them. But to me this song always invoked an image of a soldier carrying his wounded comrade to safety. One soldier black and one white, brothers-in-arms. This time was the height of racial turbulence and angst over the Vietnam war. And this song always touched my soul.
