I actually know sister Cindy! She was a common sight on my college campus. Her and brother Jeb would always amass a huge crowd consistently just for the sheer absurdity of their sermons. It was always a spectacle: the crowd would always really feed into their sermons and hype them up to get them to say ridiculous things. There was even a guy at my college who would would dress up in a gorilla suit and show up, without fail every time, just add to the absurdity. Sister Cindy and Brother Jeb would say some pretty dicey & edgy stuff. Brother Jeb once got hyped into saying that the "black community had abandoned God so God punished black communities by cursing black fathers to abandon their children". So a black student in the crowd asked for other black students in the crowd to call their dad and put them on speaker phone and the dozens of dudes talking to their dads on the phone completely drowned out brother Jeb and it was the funniest and most chaotic thing I have ever witnessed.

This lady actually went to the university my mom works at. My mom was really confused when it happened, and all the students she talked to just went for the show.

I met her last week, and by far the weirdest part about her is how chill and reasonable she seems to be outside of her presentation. I, an agnostic lesbian who was actively heckling her presentation with another group, was able to win a Ho no mo Bible which she signed without question or ire. I even had a friend ask her for advice on faith and some really deep personal stuff, and she just responded “do what you feel comfortable doing and what makes you happy”. It’s so odd.

Though I think I remember seeing on guy with a trumpet walking their way while headed to class once. I know they got banned from a university once for striking a student if my memory serves correct. But they showed up just about every Friday in the quad. It almost felt weird to not see them there on Fridays. I had always kind of hoped to meet someone there just for a good “how we met” story lol

The ironic part is that I go to a boarding school (highschool not college) but we’re on a college campus. In my sophomore year we had people come out and do a similar thing like sister Cindy and they had a sign listing all the reasons you’d go to hell (Muslim, gay, feminist, suicidal ya know, just the basics/j) and we kinda just sat there and yelled at them and laughed and we had a bunch of lesbians making out in front of them until eventually the campus police came and we’re like “yo, this is causing a disruption we have to ask you to leave” it was hella funny and I was late to class to watch it. Im a senior now so this was a while back way before the Covid stuff so we didn’t have that factor.
