“Fret not father, we have no need of thy flail. Tis only the flame, quivering at misguided Ash. Please, avert thine eyes. I will snuff out these ashes for good.” Still the coldest boss line in the Dark Souls series for me.
I was listening to escape by kilgore doubtfire while fighting her with gael and it was probably one of the best moments in the whole souls series. My top 1 boss (havent fought gael yet)
There's a video where Friede fights Elden Ring bosses (ported her over to ER) where she does that to Malenia. I just gotta say, it was sooo cathartic to see that...
I remember my first time beating her 2nd phase. When they fell, i dropped my controller and thought ive beaten her, but only got a slab or smthing, and then the music started to play lol, my heart stopped beating for a moment there 😂
I went into DS3 blind 2 weeks ago and ran into her last night. I got through phase 2, saw the Titanite slab reward and sighed a huge relief. Then she stood back up....and I about crapped myself
@@thisusernameistaken2548 not really, Malenia was only hard for me because of the life steal being so strong. Learning waterfowl and her other moves were easier then learning Friede’s
Nice! You covered Friede! Yeah, she's definitely my favorite fromsoft boss to date. From the actual fight, to the lore surrounding her with her sisters from londor, it's all so good.
Friede is honestly just one of my favourites for just having a good invisibility gimmick for some reason game’s always make it too easy to spot the boss out
Not liking the 2nd phase is wild. It’s arguably the best designed gank fight fromsoft have ever done and it’s a change in pace between the 1st and 3rd phase to keep you on your toes and keep the fight feeling fresh cause you aren’t fighting at the exact same speed for 3 phases in a row
ikr. because it almost seems like friede stands back during that phase, only using ice most of the time. also it's funny to watch first time ppl almost kill the second phase and then see the health go up because they ignored friede
it's just boring, you basically just fight ariandel the whole time, and he's a boring boss, just spam attacks into his back until he dies, friede basically does nothing at all. you say it's well designed just because they were able to make a 2v1 fight that isn't absolute cancer, and their solution was just to make the 2nd enemy basically do nothing the whole time.
@@ramen3643 Friede can heal him and the whole point is that she shouldnt be able to attack. Ariandel is the offense while friede is the passive, and they do it really well. Also I don't understand the "boring" criticism. That's heavily subjective,
@@Sephirothkingdom782 it's boring because neither boss really does anything to you, ariandel's attacks can just be avoided by sticking to his backside, and he has no moves to counter that, and friede is barely attacking you at all, so the fight as a whole is basically just R1 spam
She was insane!! That invisible grab shit she does with her scythe on the 1st phase, had me for a minute. To this DAY I struggle with the timing on that shit. I'm actually STUCK on her on my current NG+++....lol...I have my game saved right at her bonfire spot before the stairs leading down to her.
Friede is perfection. She is hard af, but nothing in that fight could be considered unfair. She's as good as Isshin, and i wish Malenia were as good as them instead of a bad attempt at making a boss hard for hardness sake.
I actually breezed through her with relative ease recently to my surprise. Making use of her incredibly low stagger resistance (what’s the stat called again?) you can really get her out of her rhythm Basically the first two phases are just a test of „can you pass this without getting hit“ and the third phase more like „how many times can you take these hits before you die“ kinda affair
I fucking love this entire boss fight. The first phase is pretty easy but all you gotta watch out for is the invisibility grab thing. Second phase is perfectly done with it being balanced between fast and slow. You might think it over after that but then you hear “when the ashes are two, a flame alighteth. Though art ash, and fire benefits thee, of course.” Which freide stands up and proceeds to go bat shit crazy. I fucking love it!
@@niles8576 you are joking right? because if you get used to the boss moveset, you can kill it very easily. The real spammer is "Malenia, Blade Of Miquella."
@@nexesthereaper no. Sister freide is the worst boss ever made malenia is so much better. fuck it every other boss ever made is better than sister freide
@@niles8576 people like you is awful, Jesus Christ, if I struggle with a boss I get angry and sometimes rage quit, yes, but if it is a good boss, it is a good boss, don't say it's not just because you're salty
Just beat this boss for the first time tonight and holy shit is it epic. From the music to the 3 separate phases and her crazy move set in the 3rd phase…..10/10 fight
I have no idea why, but on my first run , when I sucked even more at the game I beat her on my second try, while on my other playtroughs it even took up to 2 hours of constant triying
This bossfight perfectly encapsulate Darksouls combat. I evolved as per the difficulty of the fight. At first i used all my flask on phase 1 only then for phase 2 i git gud😅. Then the 3rd phase kicked in and i had to learn everything to beat it. It made phase 1 easy. This is how it works in souls game. 10/10 boss fight
There's a lot of that Sister Friede DNA in Elden Ring's Malenia. Sister Friede is one of the toughest and best battles in all of the Souls series though.
I always felt the 2nd phase was nothing more than Froms attempt to get your Estus flasks off you. Cuz you need them to get through the third, especially on 1st playthrough
Friede was easily the hardest fight for me, as I didn't beat her solo until NG+2, which definitely wasn't easy. I did it on like my third try, but still.
I mean I'll never forget desperately running around the arena to get the last hit on one of them, then "when the ashes are two, the flame alighteth" and shitting myself
I think it's good, but I don't like it when she goes invisible because all you get is the small dust cloud where she starts, and you have to use that alone to figure out where she is luckily you can tag her with throwining knives I just think its dumb she doesn't have footprints like Priscilla
The second phase was the one of the best gank fights in the series up there with O&S. It helps me forget about the nightmare that was the godskin duo on my first play through
Fight was frustrating if you don't even know she has 3 phases. Celebrated way early on ending 2nd phase and got burned hard. But it was fun learning how to fight her in all 3 phases and she's weak to staggering.
In my opinion the best/hardest boss fight in all of the fromsoftware games is the final fight in sekiro, no spoilers if you wanna play yourself, but all I have to say is 4 health bars and when you get down 1 the boss completely changes. (Also I know he was talking about the dark souls series but that fight is so damn hard I had to say something)
I have to admit to this statement. Sister friede was and still is the hardest boss in the franchise to me. I remember my friend giving me tons of embers for my first play through. I wasted all of them fighting her, even when coming back higher leveled. But despite that, she is a super fun boss fight and we’ll balanced, definitely one of my top ten souls bosses. Hope elden ring brings an even tougher fight than her (and not like malenia in my opinion)
For the vanishing grab, look at the snow that follows in the air after she jumps. If the snow is launched forward, she’s gonna appear behind u, if the snow is launched to the left she’s on ur right side and vice versa. This also works in phase 3. Hope this helps.
Good ost, very dynamic Speaking of dynamic it’s feels like a dynamic boss fight more than just another phase the arena too Decent starting difficulty and it only ramps up from here Gael is here if you require offline assistance but i recommend for a first playthrough of *any* soulsborne game to not use summons (i won’t include elden ring as it was relatively made with these always in mind but even then yea also try not using them in elden ring…might lock you in a very specific playstyle tho) Visually appealing as well I’d say if i had waited a little longer to get this game i might have appreciated this boss, unfortunately i got the game via word from friends and they taught me everything and carried me 😔 it’s mainly why Bloodborne is my fav because it’s the one i actually solo’d, nothing beats the first time you do something and in a soulsborne game the first time you do it alone I rated her a 6/10 she’s at least a 9 Kinda wish armored core had coop i bet it would looked dope enough to ignore all the crazy damage to bosses…..just realizing just how easy the game would be nevermind i’m fine with singleplayer
Not gonna lie, my friend told me how much Friede was a pain to fight, and I can agree with that, I still managed to beat her first try, with the Splitleaf Great sword and 63 strength, was awesome but hard I loved it
She gave me a ton of trouble, but I absolutely loved the fight, her 3rd phase always got me sweating and nervous about fucking up. As someone who's played the shit outta FromSoft games and would consider himself a really good player the DS3 DLCs as a whole are fucking crazy, only just started fighting the Demon Prince and can't wait to fight Gael
I don't think there could be anything else that better sums up the end of Dark Souls; two people, desperately trying to stave off the end of the next cycle, hiding in the corner of the world. They're not gods or legends, they're not even creatures, they're just people, doing their best to save themselves and what they love.
This boss is so traumatic like i thought I'm finally done and wondering why I don't get friede's soul or gain any then she proceeds to wake up and destroyed me in 3 seconds and the game crashing everytime I respawn in the chapel bonfire made it the worse experience ever. I've only beaten her after 8 hours lmao
I beat her 2 phases and halfed her 3rd one in like my 12th try, which is actually insanely good, but i ran out of health,so yeah the problem is flasks, and i went to elden next so i kinda let go
having never played the DLC until late last year after my bout with Elden Ring(been playing the series since DS1)...believe it or not i only did die to her once lol
Took me forever to beat her, even with help. After a while, she was easy, and I would set my sign down regularly to farm embers from the fight because it's my favorite fight in all the souls games and it was a for sure summon in her heyday.
Very near ishinn sword saint of intensity but once you know YOU KNOW becomes a doddle, always find gael hard though 😢 done it well over ten times or so butt gael always tajes me 6 or 7 attempts
Honestly, this fight would of been better without the third phase. The first and second phase were already hard enough, but the third phase is overkill considering if you die there, you have to start all over again.
I stand by that Friede is probably the most perfect boss FromSoft has made. Even Malenia doesnt have the same feel because shes only so difficult due to her healing on every attack.
I liked abyss watchers better. Like the cutscenes and second phase are good in this fight but it's so damn frustrating to beat it the first time that it just makes me want to never play it again now that I've beat it once. Like I beat the stupid boss and I'm good. Shouldn't have wasted like 3 or 4 hours and 50 attempts of my life on a 3-phase fight that could have been two phases but had an extra phase just for the sake of being extra hard
I did this boss fight for the first time this week, and having played Elden Ring and Sekito before that, this fight felt poorly designed. I'm sure it was great at the time but this was just bs after bs.
She is an amazing boss and yeah she is the hardest in ds3, she is not that hard because ds3 is the easiest souls game other than bloodborne and her difficulty doesnt compare to godfrey, malenia, radabeast...
