Everyone who would love to re-live 1979, raise your hands. I loved this year and this music. I was 13. The women were classy and you had a feeling that wonderful things were happening.
Rescue162 I know right I had a blast 79 and throughout the 80's. The clubs were jumping in Los Angeles CA. I couldn't get enough back then. Good times.
I love this disco song. I was 4 in 1979. In the early 90s as a teenager, I remember this song being played on a local Sunday Night Dance Party show (3 hours commercial-free) live on the radio from a nightclub called Eclipse in Binghamton, NY. Born as a Gen Xer, I am 49 will be 50 toward the end of 2024. My late mother loved disco when she was in her 20s during the mid 70s to late 70s. I miss her very much! I am feeling the disco/dance vibe like that I in a nightclub dancing with people on the floor. Party on 2024!
I was 15 when this song was released. My parents would drop me off at the Disco in Miami and id dance the night away with friends! Great memories of a free and fun time in the world!
Great and simple times they were.. I grew up in Switzerland - musically and culturally about as advanced as North Korea back then.. so I never had the pleasure of experince the great times in the US.. but we lived through the TV and pretended to be 'there".. still great times they were (nothing to this turmoil going on now).
@@richardkaltenbach3961 Wow. I'm sure the people that were young in the late 70s appreciate Disco alot more then they did. I was born in 80, I've always love disco.
Nice,in 1979 i was 13years old to.At this time i had dance 3years.🕺I remember every single moment,i love it♥️.What a nice and free time that was!!!! When i hear that old dance track s i have great memories and i feel very very happy😀.
When Chic came out it was totally different. The music just fit your dance steps.. and I met this young lady, she had style and grace.. She was built like a model . We lived together and went out each weekend to house parties, discos, and parks were I see dee hated in the park. And it Chic with that classic guitar sound playing and you just hit the floor. Well that was 1979. Speed forward light years ahead two girls and now two boys and 42 years lady and it was this music that brought us together.. LB November 2021
So you just gonna leave out Diana Ross's biggest solo album "Diana" produced by the man Niles. I'll even included Madonna, "Like a Virgin" it wasn't disco but it had that Niles magic. I know it was 80s, I'm an 80s kid. ;)
Sweet sweet memories of me teenage. ..my first crush. .my first love ...my favorite disco ...i'm so nostalgique ...i'm so young and so free .. Dancing all night long ...the best of my life.. life ... Catherine from Paris
Too many women, LGBTQ and people of color were succeeding in disco so it had to be broken by the "man", jealousy as always. That stinking Disco Demolition night in Chicago at the White Sox game !
@@DIMP11 It wasn't seen as LGBTQ back then but there was a massive community of gay people following disco, the music just sparks flamboyancy and glamour so there's a lot of truth in what you're saying. They just had to ruin a good thing. But now, it wouldn't be as special as it is without it happening
I was five in 1979 but came out the womb loving music especially this song and Juicy Fruit by Mtume!! Rest in heaven to one of sisters in Sister Sledge 🙏 ❤
Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci He looks like a still, that man is dressed to kill! 1979 towards the end of the disco era the 4 sisters churned out this other masterpiece (12 inch). What wonderful times, the clubs full of people, love sex, no fear of being close, no smartphones or various bullshit, just happiness
Oh what, wow! 👍🏽 This song is an amazing example of great writing, excellent breathing control and vocal skills, expert playing and amazing production. I have to say I've always been fascinated by the fact that they didn't strain to sing and never raised their voices - the result of all of those elements together is a breezy yet pulsating and captivating piece of music. Love it!
See🧐 As much as I loved Sister Sledge; I remember always thinking that the timing & flow of the verses seemed off to me?. And that was my thought as a youngster. Don’t misunderstand; I remember loving Sister Sledge…. and this song. My ears just reject the flow of the verses though?!🤷🏾♀️ #daughterofabassplayer
i walking home from warren high school i would play this song when i walked home i was in the 11th grade in 1979 i graduated june 5th 1982 iam going to be 60 years old june 30th
Wahnsinn !
Timeless, iconic and classic floor filling 70’s Disco music with strings from the Beautiful Sisters sledge, brings me back to my teenage years every-time and still loving them every bit after all these years in 2023.
2021'💕Still listening since being a 14yrs. 'Youngan'😅, What a Disco Era Classic 🎵He's the Greatest Dancer💕🎵 amongst others🎵We Are Family💕🎵Extended Version!! Thanks for Sharing!!👍🏼
Seasons of fear *Spring 79 of joy. Bass+Violin The absolute peak of black disco in US. *Summer 79 of hatred We were taken aback by the sudden fall/attack again disco
Interestingly it didn't happen in the UK or Europe but by 81 was morphing into the QUINCY JONES sounding era, new sub genres had formed including the eventually dominant RAP,. HI NRG and the BREAK DANCE craze of 83/84. Then we hit HOUSE Music and DiSCO had its revenge. But WITHOUT DISCO none of this would have happened
When I was a little girl, I would stare at their album cover and imagine I could do anything. Songs like this gave me life. Sister Sledge was so beautiful and talented. Saturday mornings at my house with this album playing in the background while doing chores. Life was so simple and time stood still.
@@JazzFunkNobby1964 glad to see your comment. Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Rod Temperton are unique musicians, great composers and arrangers. Very few people can do what they do/did.
Rod Temperton a true genius. The songs he wrote for Heatwave and others like Michael Jackson, George Benson, Donna Summer, The Brothers Johnson, Patti Austin and James Ingram, R I P Rodney Rod Temperton
Hay un tema muy similar y parecido a este, también muy bonito se llama:"bailando contigo toda la noche"ese es título pero no sé qué grupo lo interpreta, incluso pensé que era de sister sleegg, alguien me puede orientar?por favor
Quincy jones had Michael Jackson, Nile Rodgers had Chic, Madonna, David Bowie, Duran Duran, ,INXS, Daft Punk, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, and so many others. Where Would Rap music be if not for that Good Times riff by Chic produced by Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards on Rappers Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang????
I was in born in 1979. These videos used to appear on the TV box while growing up a kid in the 80's. So much happy memories dancing in front adults clapping... This era's music always makes me happy.
I stayed slim and trim, lean and mean on the dance floor off GREAT songs like this back in the day. Thank you GOD, for allowing me to come up in this time period!!
If youre 51 , then you were only like 9 or 10 years old in 1979, so stop acting like you was out there Partying or going to the DISCO CLUBS in "79" fool !!!! LMAO Your ass was just a little underage KID in 1979 , just like me, because i also am 51 right now, i was born in 1971, and i was only 7 going on 8 years old in 1979, in other words , these old school songs were before our real Musical Times . Our Musical Times were more like in the late 80's & 1990's Decades, when we became Teenagers in the 80's , & young Adults in our 20's during the 1990's decade .
@@entertainingsportshighligh7525 Negrodamus, stop pretending to know me or my life. This is ALL the music my parents listened to and taught me how to dance to. So I have an intimate knowledge of this genre/era even if you don’t. As well as others from the time period as a lot of us do. They’re called memories. Stop projecting yours on to me or better yet get your own and stop critiquing mine. Be well, fool..
I wasn't even born when this song came out(1989 baby) and it's one of my favorites!!! I love the disco/funk era sooooo much. I'm hoping to introduce the genere of music to my baby on the way and I'm hoping they too will fall in love with it as well!!
I was lucky to be in college during the end of 1970's, so I got to party to all kinds of great music like this. It has kept me in shape so I do not look my age!! 💟
I don't exacly "work" in the music buiness anymore - but I did and have a "famous" husband. So I still meet many musicans - and can only attest to that!! Music keeps you young - phisically and mentally (if they don't substance abuse..)
Song and music written by Bernard Edward and Nile Rodgers of the band Chic. Can't miss that beautiful guitar by Nile Rodgers!!! Love this song and music!!
Will Smith jet jiggy love it. I'm glad I was born in (1979) the best time for disco and I just found this song and now love disco music in (2021) "Wow".
Oh what the jam this is. Man I am so glad, I just finished High school as Disco hit. The music, clubs, the women, the lights it was THE time to be a young strong adult. Always sharp. Slim fine women everywhere. Not this overweight , so called thick( really fat) scene we see with women now. All the ladies wearing dresses and heels. Too fine. Twirling on the floor . Dance clubs everywhere. Also, the dance floors were lit up, lights flashing!!!!!
That music really put me in a trance when I was in ma teens...shakin to that..NOW listening to it is like bringing me bck to their motown soul train days.
Great song, group, video and production! Kathy did a good job of hiding that she didn't like the "Please take me home" lyric. In later concert performances she changed it to "Please don't go home."
Today I am a BIG House Music Fan! My folks played Sister Sledge back in the day, that was the foundation to me being such a big fan of House Music. The Base though🔥🔥🔥 Shout out to the soulful world, from sunny South Africa
Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards created a one of a kind sound. Never heard before..., not heard since. That was R&B Soul at the peak of its power. The Golden Age of the genre.
might be easy to listen - but man , to play with this timing and groove is quite another game. Chic and sister sledge hat a unique and perfect fit to the rhythm, hard maybe impossible to find again. Bernard Edwards has been a great bass player, always serving the band with his unique timing and deep pocket.
I don't know how many times I played "He's the Greatest Dancer" & "Lost in Music" as a DJ, at home, in my cars and or on my walkman, IPod and cellphone but it feels like more than thousand times but still these tracks are like many others out of this era my favourite. I still love to listen to these sounds, they don't get boring! For this I'm wondering why these tracks got this charme and many others, especially from the new century lost such a sympathy after ten times listening! All'n'all I won't want to miss the 70's and 80's they were "The greatest Dancer" for me!
