Kody's nephew is comedian Ben Brown. He was AUB, then LDS then left altogether. He has a few interviews on RU-vid, very recently on Cults to Consciousness. He describes a very difficult life, some of which Kody lived. Apparently, Kody's father was not an easy person. Kody's father married Janelle's mother, before Kody and Janella married. Both Robyn and Janelle were previously married. Janelle was married to Meri's brother. Robyn was married to Christine's cousin, a Jessop. Christine is an Allred.

The bulk of the problems are Kody's narcissism. Robyn is the favorite wife, coming in late to the family. The family was expected to conform to Robyn not Robyn trying to fit in. She plays victim and takes no ownership in the blantant favoritism from Kody. Kody expects total loyalty but puts zero effort to the other wives and children.

Yes, everyone can spot his obvious narcissism from a mile away. At 6:30 they're talking about his 'reverse discard' when the narcissist will treat their partner so badly in order to make them leave and then paint the partner as the bad guy and themselves as the victim yet again. He's so gross.

I think you will find the episode where After six-weeks of no communication, Janelle made an appointment to see Kody and he thinks she wants to reconcile. Apparently that is the way it has worked in the past, they would separate, and he would just wait for his wife to come crawling back to him, and all he had to do was wait it out. He was surprised when she told him she wanted to stay separated.

I haven’t seen Sister Wives for some years. Some of the early episodes were fascinating. But Kody has always seemed to me like a spoiled overgrown child. My husband and I are retired Christian clergy, married happily for 44 years. Of course there have been ups and downs, often because of the conflicting needs of small children, aging sick parents, pastoral emergencies in our congregation, and nurturing the marriage. It definitely demands patience! You two really sound like you are working at having a good marriage and family. I find your presentations wise, and very compassionate towards those who have been victims of unhealthy religious practices. Thank you. I hope you will continue to grow together and enjoy your children for many years to come.

I suggest you watch season 17. It will give you a lot of insight into how clueless Koda was to why Christine left. They had problems for years because she felt she wasn’t getting enough attention and Koda chose to cut off sleeping with her because she wasn’t obedient to him but expected her to live like that and maintain the marriage because Meri has done that for years. Why is he so mad at Christine? He thought he could treat her any way he wanted and she would stay.

That may be true, but you can’t rewrite history or alter reality. Reality is that They/Them are A) not multiple people, and B) was Mariah when the show started. I’ll respect people’s lunacy to a degree, but I draw the line at pretending their past doesn’t exist. I don’t care if someone identifies as whatever they want, but seriously? They/them? They only do that because they don’t want to acknowledge the singular is It, which is what they are identifying as, unless they actually think they possess multiple personalities…
@niklet9246
@niklet9246 8 месяцев назад
They/Them can be singular. Here's an example: "My Dentist told me I have a big cavity" response: "Did THEY say you need a new filling?" Singular. And this is proper English. It's used in this case to indicate that the Dentist's sex is unspecified.

Kody actually didn't make the rules. He didn't give his other wives a list of Robyns rules until like 10 months into covid. Robyns nanny was allowed to be around at Robyns mansion every day with the kids, yet Robyn wouldn't allow any of the family over. Robyn wouldn't even let Meri hang out with her kids outside after Meri had totally isolated for months and months. Kody suggested Meri could visit outside and Robyn said "oh no no no". Robyn uses everyone around her, it's pathetic.

Kody argued that it is not about being the favorite, but finding favor. So he thinks Robyn is only his favorite because she obeys his authority. Robyn said she treats Kody like her best customer. Basically trying to please him. The problem is that in a marriage you need more than just a yes person, you're going to face difficult times and you need someone you can work together with. The OG 3 would tell Kody when his ideas were bad, they would tell Kody when they didn't have the money for stuff, they would say when they were unhappy. Robyn came in and her stratagem was that Kody was the one who got to decide (even if we all could see her leading him to the decision she wanted, she let him think he was in charge), that he wouldn't be burdened with unpleasant tasks while there. She basically treated him like a king. Something that was completely unrealistic and unsustainable in a marriage partnership. But just seeing the inequity in the wealth distribution in the family is heartbreaking. Even if he prefers Roby's company, as the patriarch he should have made sure all of his family were taken care of financially relatively equally. Especially since they all helped contribute to the family pot. Then when the other wives speak up saying their needs aren't being met, he says they're after him for his resources. Personally, I think Robyn was the favorite because she was younger and hotter than his other wives, not just about her pleasing his ego.

Regarding sacred loneliness - I’ve heard several former polygamists say the term ironically is taken from the book, “In Sacred Loneliness: The Plural Wives of Joseph Smith” by Todd Compton. It’s ironic because according to the book’s description: “For all of Smith’s wives, the experience of being secretly married was socially isolating, emotionally draining, and sexually frustrating. Despite the spiritual and temporal benefits, which they acknowledged, they found their faith tested to the limit of its endurance.”

Kody's parents became polygamous while he was on mission. He clearly tries and repeatedly fails to get his father's approval--his dad and his high school friends thought he might be gay. Kody has 11 siblings. Not much about the sisters, but several of his brothers are misogynists but not polygamous--they have a podcast. Kody's dad, Winn, married Kody's second wife', Janelle's, mother (Sheryl). Kody's mother, Genielle, was supposed to take care of the children. The second wife was supposed to take care of Winn. Not too much known about Winn's third wife, Bobbie. Kody's birth family lived on a ranch/compound in Wyoming near Yellowstone.

Kody did not grow up in polygamy. Win had at least 2 wives who left quickly. Janelle's mom have never lived polygamy before joining Win. Kody's mom and Janelle's mom struggled HARD. It was up to Meri to teach both Janelle and Kody about living polygamy.

Y’all need to go back and watch it from the beginning it will fill in all the gaps. Robyn is a master manipulator pulling puppet strings behind the scenes but lets Kody think it’s his decisions that are being made. Meri is still living out the faith and hoping to spend her “eternities” with Kody. Janelle was one of the major breadwinners from the very beginning until they moved to Las Vegas. She cashed in her 401(k) to help the family get homes and help pay off Robyn’s $30,000 credit card debt that Robyn brought into the marriage. Janelle was a team player believing that she was working for the common good. To see how financially responsible Janelle has been and how well she was doing and now has nothing to show for it is heartbreaking. This is such a huge realization for her that all of it was to support Robyn and Kody’s excessive shopping addictions and they bought a home which is a million dollar McMansion. Meanwhile Janelle is renting a tiny apartment. Kody (and Robyn) are icing out all of the wives one by one.

It might be helpful to have the context that Janelle has been the primary wage earner and handled the family taxes and finances. Also she's the wife that Cody has called his best friend and intellectual equal and throughout the seasons Janelle is the wife that chooses most consistently to wait until she's calm and has a plan to have hard conversations with Cody. That fight, in that context, just looks and feels different to me. Especially when you see episodes of Cody's more explosive arguments the last few seasons. Wild

He was disgusted by Christine when she ate nachos once and said he never was attracted to her. But she was a direct descendant of rulen and meri practically begged for a chance but she got caught up in a catfish incident and he will never forgive her. Another issue during Covid was Christine’s daughter had to have a huge back surgery and Christine earned all the money and went to the surgery all by herself with a daughter and the daughter cried and cried. But if you watch last season's tell-all, he tried to change history to claim he wanted (recently) to reconcile with Meri and Christine stopped it. All the wives - except Robyn - said they knew nothing about that, and Christine said she would not have done that. (& she didnt even try to tell Janelle she had to leave Kody, at least not on film.)

No, Robyn was always destined to be the favorite. They kissed before the wedding, he picked the dress, etc. The other three have every right to have been jealous from day one, and she is the reason the whole family fell apart. It might not be her fault, but she definitely has a lot of the responsibility for allowing him to make her the primary wife the way he has. She should have supported and encouraged his other relationships, and instead, she just allowed him to choose her every time and then had the audacity to act like she didn't know why this was all happening.

I am not LDS or in favor of polygamy but your perspective on SW & your faith honors the fact that we all can fall down in relationships & you apply Grace to SW in their faith walk. My personal opinion is that Kody & the SW have had underlying issues w everyone prior to the show. I don't know any marriage that can survive a TV show & camera intrusions. Kody's immaturity is the same result in any relationship. Thank you for your reaction. I appreciate your openess & kindness.

For a little context, I went back through some of the episodes and made a little "cheat sheet" of some of the more defining moments. This is not exhaustive by a long shot. Season 1 episode 6 Kody secretly picks out Robyn's dress then drops the "bomb" on the other wives. They thought they were the ones helping pick the dress. Season 1 episode 9 Robyn and Kody take an 11 day honeymoon. The other wives talk about not having a wedding or a honeymoon. Season 8 Episode 7 Meri agrees to legally divorced Kody so he can legally marry Robyn and adopt her kids. Season 9 episode 12 Meri is Catfished. Part 1 of Season 17 One-On-One Special Kody says he doesn't consider himself married to Meri anymore.

Cody acts like a child protesting over and over protested "I did not". Robyn could have smoothed things over and told Cody to go meet with his boys and work it out. Or at the very least contacted them herself and straightened things out. Obviously she is a pro at manipulating Cody and not letting him realise it. Like at a family meal, Cody asked Robyn if it was ok to invite Mary over because she's been staying home and following the rules. She does her usual by saying something like "I/you wont feel comfortable about that." She also said something after she said It's sad the family can't get together for Christmas but she wouldn't be comfortable because they need a conversation 1st.

Their book really fills in a lot of the gaps of what happened before the show- it seems that Meri was once the favorite wife, so to go from that to being the one “he regrets marrying”- it’s a lot. She did have an emotional affair that ended up being a catfish situation, but this was after he had basically become monogamous with Robyn. I think most of his regret stems from her being unable to have a bunch of kids, and their only child together being non binary.
